  1. Maybe. Two scenarios where Corral might not get much of a shot. If we draft an early 1st round QB, he's got to get some run sooner than later. If we have a new regime, they might want "their" guy (trade/ FA / draft).
  2. Wasn't that the whole disconnect between Rhule and Brady? Brady wanted to pass more and Rhule wanted to run more. I'd be surprised if Rhule backs off of being a run-first team.
  3. In the very unlikely event we find ourselves in that situation, I would think it would be better to see Corral in for mop up duty. Darnold isn't going to be here in 23, Corral (in all likelihood) will be.
  4. Which leaves few reps to develop your third round rookie...
  5. We offered more draft pick compensation on draft night.
  6. I live pretty far away so we will only get up there one day of Camp. Looking forward to seeing the QBs in action.
  7. Saints fans should be more concerned about the dropoff from Payton to Allen/Carmichael than our QB.
  8. Plausible. Darnold is the better athlete -- bigger, faster, stronger. He's a talented thrower of the football. Without a real pass rush, Darnold could look good in TC. But we have all seen what happens when the bullets are live.
  9. I keep looking at the schedule and it's hard for me to see more than 5 to 6 wins.
  10. The added advantage to this type of approach is it sounds similar to the offense Corral ran in college and may help ease his transition to the NFL. With Baker coming off an injury and Darnold's own injury history, we may need Corral ready at some point this season.
  11. I hope Mayfield plays well and the Panthers have a good year. At the same time, our own GM said building around a rookie QB was "the right way" to do things. The best case scenario is Mayfield is a bridge that gives Corral time to learn the pro game and bulk up a bit to take the hits at this level.
  12. If this season does go down in flames [and for the record, I hope it doesn't], then I hope Tepper will and pry Kevin Colbert out of retirement as a senior consultant (sort of like what Jerry did with Ernie Acorsi) for next coach hire and to determine if we need a new GM, too.
  13. This would be an apt description of our own QB pursuits since the end of Cam's career.
  14. Good find @Mr. Scot. Thanks for sharing it. It certainly seems like Mayfield will get every opportunity to win the starting gig. Let's see what he does with it.
  15. I can't see the Saints and 9ers as wildcard teams. People are really underestimating how much losing Payton is going to hurt the Saints. Lance is a huge question mark [for SF]. Cardinals, Vikings, Eagles as wildcard teams.
  16. We need Chris Simms to be right about Corral and Mayfield.
  17. 2-3 years to acquire a talented young QB? That's ridiculous.
  18. Sounds like the exact kind of system Matt Corral ran in college and would thrive in.
  19. I didn't want us to trade to Baker, but if all it takes is having Baker on the team in 2022 to "ruin Corral, his desire, confidence", then Corral was never gonna be a franchise guy anyway. Franchise QBs are made of sterner stuff. I do think having Baker and Sam on the roster will severely slow Corral's development. That's the issue. Here's my thinking: Rhule really needs to declare a starter before the August 13th game. That's just a little over a month away. August 13th is the second preseason game. That's the "dress rehearsal" game. Ideally, you'd like your starter in place by that point. And I hate to break to you, but Sam is going to look good in training camp. He's a better athlete than Baker--bigger, faster, and stronger. With no pass rush to deal with, he won't hit the panic button you see in live action. That makes a tough decision for Rhule and the staff. My concern is TC camp reps will get split 50/50 between Sam and Baker in the QB competition. That leaves very few reps for Corral to develop. Once the regular season starts, nearly all the reps go to the starter. This again leaves few reps for Corral. Now, maybe the "competition" talk is just that, talk and Baker is the guy. Or maybe they move Sam before TC. If that changes, it will change how I feel, but how I feel today can't be based on maybe.
  20. No argument. Just saying spending like that again will negate any comp pick we might get from letting Baker go after his contract.
  21. We like signing FAs way too much under Fitterer to count on any comps for losing FAs.
  22. "He can make that money back via on-field incentives." That means those are in the contract as "not likely to be earned" NLTBE. If those are earned, they are charged to the following year’s Salary Cap. In other words, if Baker balls out, he's going to cost us next year's cap.
  23. So you're expecting Matt to be the backup? Because the starter the gets the lion's share of reps, the backup gets the rest and the third guy gets basically zero.
