What the hell, the Cardinals seems to have the most well informed fans we've seen all season long. Where's the hate? The salt? I need to be ANGRY.

I don't care what it takes to keep Norman, PAY THAT MAN. -
For some reason I'm torturing myself by going back through WoT, something I haven't done in many years. On Fires of Heaven now. Holy poo, I remember Robert Jordan going on and on with the detailed scenery porn, but whole pages of nothing but describing the textures of the carpets in a room is just unnecessary.

No, there is filler, and it sounds like you think yourself some grand thinker that tries to find connections in places they don't even exists. You sound too small minded to comprehend it. Either way, it's still one of the best fantasy series of all times, whether people think it has filler or it doesn't. If only he could get the next book out sooner.

There's plenty of filler in it, but it's not useless or boring. Filler doesn't mean it's bad or useless. I'd also say it isn't bad when comparing it to other high & epic fantasy series, because it seems to be a little problem in the genre. The plot in ASoIaF moves along eventually, it's not like GRRM is stalling with pointless things. Don't be a fanboy and take everything the wrong way.

I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned it yet, but the Malazan Book of the Fallen fantasy series is one of the best out there. It's more down to earth with its dialogue and interaction between characters than other epic fantasy works like Wheel of Time. It's like ASoIaF, with the realistic take in its approach with showing the humanity of the characters. I personally find it both more entertaining and engaging than more popular series like WoT(good but VERY detailed oriented in every chapter, down to the paragraphs) and ASoIaF(also great, but more filler in certain parts). It's reminiscent of The Black Company, if any of you have read that. MBotF is one of the most popular epic fantasy series (multi million books sold), but nowhere near as popular as works by GRRM or Robert Jordan. Still, if you enjoyed either of their works, I highly suggest reading Mazalan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malazan_Book_of_the_Fallen The series just finished last year, so you can get pretty much all of them in small paperback form if wanted.
