Hell I thought he was going in motion.

Lol - Chiefs have lost a grand total of 16 regular season games in the last 5 years combined and they're gonna lose 7 this year?

Leave your emotions at the door about Burns... it's a BUSINESS
Newtcase replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Burns isn’t the kinda guy we pay then who in the hell are we paying? -
A look at the roster after final cuts to the 53 man squad...

We have 5 TE, yet somehow have no TE. -
If Chark is on the field more than any other WR then injury wasn't a concern.

This was definitely worth a thread.

The NFL has provided plenty of examples of quick turn arounds and a few teams surprise every year. Nothing wrong with believing we could be one of those teams this year. There’s enough talent on the team to compete. How well the coaching staff extracts that talent and how quickly our young players progress will have a lot of influence on how the season progresses. Theory crafting wins/losses is an exercise in futility. Even with perfect logic the better team often loses in the NFL. I simply hope we see a team improving with each game this season. That’s the standard I’d like to see from a new staff and our rookie QB. Just continue to improve, converting experience into progress.

Carr looked surgical against KC. The entire offense was operating at a very high level for a preseason opener.

It’s actually 2023.

Playing from behind, a lot of passing.

We just drafted Young #1 overall and you think Corral is in the running?
-
Well we now know if we had stood at #9 Levis would have been the only option left. All of the big four QBs are gonna be measured against their draft position. Levis is a bit more interesting to look back on in five years since he would have been the only option left without trading up.

Round 1 - The Carolina Panthers Select Bryce Young - QB - Alabama
Newtcase replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
All aboard the Bryce train! ChooChoo muthfuggers! I applaud this off-season, for better or worse we made moves to immediately reverse course. We’ve had a sad five year run. I think we all feel some juice right now. -
Th 6’2 prototypical QB is a myth, look at the shotgun percentages
Newtcase replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Historically, any #1 pick is a gamble. It's just such as a huge investment with such high expectations. The busts are really visible. Just a few #1 busts in recent memory. 2007 Jamarcus Russell, 2010 Sam Bradford, 2015 Jameis Winston. Wouldn't call 2016 Jared Goff a bust, but he's already on his second team. Point being, all these #1's had better physical attributes than Bryce and still busted. Bryce is a gamble, but literally so is everyone else. -
CJ Stroud: I’m a football player, not a test taker
Newtcase replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
How am I overlooking it, my second sentence is literally stating that he is smaller, I even use the phrasing "technically correct" to assess your take. Otherwise, I don't disagree with you. Just gonna have some faith, if the staff can't get this pick right then there may be little hope they would have succeeded with anyone else. -
CJ Stroud: I’m a football player, not a test taker
Newtcase replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
So if you want to split hairs then I have a few reasonable responses. Bryce may come in a bit smaller than these guys, making your statement technically true. However, the spirit of your argument is that small is pretty much a guaranteed bust and that certainly isn't true. These players span the history of the game as it's evolved, clearly it's possible to get it done quite successfully even if you're smaller than average. Drew Brees 6' 200lb. Russel Wilson 5'11" 215lb. Joe Theismann 6' 192lb Len Dawson 6' 190lb. Fran Tarkenton 6' 190lb. Sonny Jurgensen 5'11" 202lb. -
Fitt's job is to put together the roster Reich says he needs to compete. I'm pretty confident Reich will decide who's on the field and when. Not saying these guys don't collaborate, but it doesn't feel like this coaching staff will leave the better player on the bench. Everything the Panthers have done screams they want to compete now and beyond.

Sure, that all seems like 2+2 but it can the other way as well. Large bodies tend to wear out faster which is also 2+2. And to dive into a little more nuance....beyond build, luck and genes what else can extend a career in a physically punishing sport like the NFL? The ability to protect yourself, know the situation and play another down. I'd argue it's also 2+2 that physical specimens are more likely to stick their nose in it and pay a price. I'd expect Bryce to very good at protecting himself. Honestly, this is one big reason Brady's career was so long and successful, dude knew when to get down or throw it away.

#1 - There are only 59 total quarterbacks since 1970 to start 100 games or more. You're saying 11 of those 59 were short and light. I'd bet a larger ratio of over 6' 210+ QBs fell short of the 100 game after starting 50. Why? It's a larger sample size. #2 - To say Bryce needs to be an outlier is outlandish. Bryce IS an outlier, as is pretty much any professional athlete. Every single one of the guys is the exception to the rule. Give me one great example where an NFL QB was mutilated because he was 6' 200lb? I'll immediately respond with Sir Cameron Newton, who was and remains a freakish physical specimen. All that size didn't stop his career from being destroyed. The way he was used did, see point #3. #3 - There are too many variables beyond the physical attributes that can impact a career to draw any definitive conclusion from size vs games started.

New PFT article on what the Saints want for Payton
Newtcase replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
What has Sean Payton done without Brees? About as much as Rivera has done without Cam. NOTHING A corpse could have a won a Super Bowl with Brees eventually. The fact that Payton only won one with one of the best QBs to ever play the game is an indictment not an endorsement. fug Payton, go sniff glue.
