Don't think we tell cancer patients its not big deal, but we also don't tell everyone they are necessarily going to get cancer. I think that is what he is saying, but then again, I don't really care for him, so it's easy for me to thumb my nose to him. To me, if China was not turning around in really dramatic ways, I would have a much more jaded outlook, but it can be done and I think mitigation and warmer weather, all bode well for us. There are also new reports out however that say some people present with GI difficulties and not so much the lung issues. That will throw a monkey wrench into a lot of efforts. Guess it's good people getting that toilet paper.

US, Germany and France, all seem to be on the same trajectory

China heading in the right direction now. Their death rate is around 3.9. Ours is 2.1 currently and we are learning by watching them. I don't see the million death situation that many are saying, or 1.7 million that has been put out in the press for us. Maybe so, but it's not in the numbers currently and w the restrictions........

trump all but said he was going to bailout cruise industry and airlines today. Would look for both to head back up soon. I don't spend enough time looking at tech/computer/communications stocks to know who owns who. I just figure some of these companies (streaming hardware and software) will get contracts with school systems and such and get huge spikes. But, I am guessing

Told my son 2 weeks ago that I wanted to buy some sort of tech communications stocks like skype, but not skype. I hear Zoom or some of them are taking off, not sure, have not researched Was thinking 2 weeks ago of streaming capabilities and schools, churches, etc

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ NC has 15 confirmed cases, probably tons more. Same with every other state. At first, that makes it terribly scary and might be the doom we all dread, or, it could be that many are not that ill, don't even know they have it. I watch the numbers above several times a day on linked website. If China and other countries are lying, then we know nothing anyway, but if people are telling the truth, then there are paths out of this mess.

Not taking lightly, just heartened by the curve in China

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_by_country H1N1 Was pretty bad, but nowhere near the hysteria we see now. We have like 40 deaths associated with it here in the US, little over 5000 in the world. Who knows, might get much worse, but again, China seems to be coming out of it, or are not being truthful. If they are doing better, they the 1.7 million death talk might be a bit dramatized.

Might affect the draft and free agency and generally transcends sports anyway?

Tbox is around the corner, first cesspool on the right

Supposedly, there are 2 strains of the virus, an L strain which is much more aggressive, and an S strain which could be the one spreading. The L strain causes people to be sick quickly and quarantined, therefore isolating it easier. The S version just goes on and on because it does not present as quickly. Again, this is just some of the info from China experience.

Lots of back and forth in this thread with the occasional political ax grinding, but overall, a much better discussion than the cesspool in the TB. When a virus or flu comes your way and there are no developed vaccines, then your elderly populations will get hit hard. They are the ones to get the flu shots every year and probably mitigates the losses we see. But still lose from 20 to 50k each year from the flu even though we prepare. So whether or not this virus is more powerful than the normal "flu" we see each season, we are definitely more unprotected. Use your brain and not your emotions and look out for your grandparents. They probably don't even understand fully what all is going on.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Good website. Up to date stats, no spin from CNN, Fox, etc. US death rate around 2.2 now. Will change. Most likely much lower because of thousands that might have it but think it just a cold or allergies. Section about age, sex demographics is interesting. As of the end of Feb, no child under the age of 9 has died due to illness. Some things to note, the northern hemisphere is getting hammered so it could be presenting like a seasonal flu, could mean it is much better that we are in March than November. Could also mean South America and Australia/Africa has a tough road ahead https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 5000 deaths worldwide. China getting over the craziness early on. Seems it has a shelf life? Hopefully. Each country can learn from the other
