General 1st Round Draft Discussion
Davidson Deac II replied to The Huddler's topic in Carolina Panthers
If the Dolphins get even decent qb play, they could be one of the better teams in the NFL for a while. -

Atlanta is going to have a ton of pass catchers. And they may need them unless their defense improves dramatically. -

And if they do, he might come in and be the next Joe Montana. -

Now we find out if the Forty Whiners were just blowing smoke regarding the Bama qb. -
Personally, I would love to go into next season with two potential starters. I have been watching football long enough to realize that if we depend on a draftee like Fields or someone we traded for like Darnold being the guy, the odds aren't good. But with two guys, the odds are better. I wouldn't do it with any other position, but qb is important enough to risk tying up additional draft capital.

Man Sacrifices Brownies to Save Wife From Rabid Bobcat

If that is the same one I read about this morning, the Bobcat was Rabid. Could mean a lot of shots for those that were attacked. -
No Pitts? Slater gone? Pene off the board?

They are all crapshoots, which is why some want to trade back. More picks equals better chance at success. -
I am not defending Rivera, but most coaches these days succeed or fail in large part due to the play at Qb.
-
For those that are saying the odds are stacked against him, you are correct. But then the odds are stacked against just about anyone we could conceivably get. IMO, that would be true even if we had lost to the WFT, and we had the fourth pick in the draft. Anything we might do is a crapshoot. Which is why I still hope that we pick a qb in the draft. Better to have two new qb's than one. Better chance that one of them might work out.

I do wonder if they decided to trade for SD because they don't think any of the qb prospects they want will be there at 8. But if a surprise happens, and one of them is available, they might still pull the trigger. IMO, qb is such a critical position, that it wouldn't bother me if we went into the season with two potential starters.

Who do u want for our 1-6 draft picks now?
Davidson Deac II replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think its a certainty that they won't take a qb. If someone like Fields unexpectedly drops to them, they might take a shot. But I agree that is unlikely. -
I found this interesting re: first round QBs
Davidson Deac II replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agree 100%. Teddy in the first three quarters last year was decent to good. Teddy in the fourth qtr, and especially the last 3-4 minutes of the fourth was not good at all. -
49ers trading up to number 3 with Miami!

If the Falcons take a qb at 4, might not have anything to bid for. -
And I wish people would stop using td passes as the only indicator of a qb's success or lackthere of. Given that teams have different styles of play, how many td's a qb tossed can be irrelevant to the discussion. Some teams use the run game more. In Cam's best year, I think he only threw 25 or so, yet he was MVP. And yes, I know he ran for quite a few as well. but the point is you can't use td passes exclusively. And based on a look at all the stats, Bridgewater ranked around 17th or 18th among NFL qb's that started most of the games. Here is ESPN's qbr rating. Not that I take it as the qb bible, but its interesting none the less. TB's rating is 17th, ie average. https://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr Of course, if you throw in 4th qtr stats, he ranks much lower, which was my original point. Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly want to keep Teddy, and if we get a shot to improve at qb, we should. To win with him, we would have to build a dominant defense, and offensive line. And that would be difficult. I just don't think he is as bad as some here make him out.
-
Statistically for his career, he is average. As far as our offense, the offensive line was not very good and the run game was below average with CMC out. Not that I am defending Bridgewater. My issues with him last year were not his overall play, nor his less than stellar deep passing ability. It was his terrible play during crunch time. For most of the season, he would play fairly well for most of the game, then fall apart in the fourth qtr. Which is why we lost so many close games.

Texans planned to trade Watson before lawsuits

So about 51% of the population wouldn't believe it. -
You are not completely wrong. I worked for a bank back then, and part of the problem was that banks stopped caring how high the mortgage was or if the borrower could really afford it, so the prices could and did outstrip the value. It was more of an issue out west, but people bought houses they couldn't afford, and banks knew it and loaned them the money anyway. The banks could repackage the loans into investments and sell them and make a lot of money. Banks get criticized for saying no to some people, but in 08 and the years leading up to it, they didn't say no enough.

Go on record. Who still wants Watson?
Davidson Deac II replied to Sasquatch's topic in Carolina Panthers
At this point, I don't think its going to play out very well for Watson. Or the Texans for that matter. Went from having one of the best young qb's in the league, to getting two or three first round picks for him if they follow thru on his trade demands, to the possibility of him not being able to play for a while and not getting any picks for him. -
