In fairness, Meyer wasn't fired just because of his on the field performance. Rhule may not be a good NFL coach, but at least he doesn't have the off the field foolishness that Meyer did.

Nixon could be the best offensive coordinator of all time and I am still not sure he could improve our offensive performance significantly in five games. But if he does, then we will know that play calling was a big part of the problem as that is the easiest thing to change. Personnel and play design can be tweaked, but I doubt we could see significant changes in that regard.

In fairness most defenses slip as the season goes along if they aren't getting much support from the offense. But I am not saying the defense is top five/great. Just that it is significantly better than 2019, and somewhat better than last year when we went several games without forcing more than 1 punt a game. I am also not saying Snow is great. But when Rivera was hired, it took him more than two seasons to turn the defense around, and he was considered a NFL defensive specialist. Might be unrealistic to expect a college coach to get it into a dominant position in less than two years, regardless of how many draft picks we spend on defense. The reality is most NFL players don't really gel until their third year. But the point is the defense has gotten better. On the flip side, the offense and special teams have gotten worse. Baffling decisions at qb, offensive line inconsistency, both in personnel and performance, and spending a high pick on a wide receiver just after paying a free agent wr a significant amount of money, and now we are going to have to pay DJ if we want to keep him. I wonder how much Brady had to do with these decisions, and if they were part of the reason he was canned.

11 I think, if you are counting defensive picks under Rhule. But free agent signings and draft picks are how you fix things in the NFL. The issue is not that they did it wrong on the defensive side, its more that they didn't follow the same pattern on the offensive side. Instead of signing Bridgewater and then trading picks for Darnold, should have drafted a qb this past year, and drafted more offensive linemen. Should have kept Bridgewater for another year, drafted Fields or Jones, let them sit for a year while we rebuild the oline. And as good as Marshall might eventually be, probably should have gone with a heavier concentration on oline during the second and third day. I never understood the rationale behind drafting Marshall while extending/paying Anderson.

Ruhle did at least fix one issue he inherited. When he took over, the defense was old and terrible. 2019 was far and away the worst Panthers defense I have ever seen. Last year's was slightly better. This year's defense, while not great, has moved into the top 10 and is young enough to stay there for a few years.

Oldest and probably best rivalry in college sports.

In fairness, its the Texans. We make some bad decisions regarding personnel on occasion, but nothing approaching the Texans.

I just like football. And I don't get so upset by it anymore. If we win great, if not, I move on.

Holy Crap - Rescue attempt at Niagara

Apparently, the woman died anyway. Still an amazing thing to see -
I am fairly certain you might be the only person on the planet who feels this way. Brady is one of the best of all time because he makes quick and smart decisions and accurate throws under pressure, especially when the game is on the line. This is an ability that is far, far more important than athleticism in a qb. Regarding arm strength, its dropped off over the years, but at one time, he certainly had good downfield strength and accuracy.

And they got him.

SD? The Chargers coaching staff was fired last year during Herbert's first year. So I am assuming their owner doesn't share your opinion of Herbert's first year staff. Unless you mean this years staff, but since this is Herbert's second year, not sure that would be a valid comparison. Regarding the weapons, I have heard similar discussions about a lot of drafted qb's. Some work out, some do not. The jury is still out on all of them drafted last year.
-
I actually don't have to give them anything. . What you or I say here doesn't matter at all. Fwiw, I am not saying they will be bust. Just that of all the picks, only Mac Jones looks good at this point. They could turn it around. And at least 1 or 2 of them probably will. But in my opinion, both Burrow (when healthy) and Herbert looked better at this point last year than any of the top three do this year. By top three, I mean Lawrence, Smith, and Fields. Lance is mostly unobserved.

The actual games. Jacksonville has the worst passing attack in the NFL, well maybe other than us. Early in the season, he was an interception machine, and then the Jaguars staff started restricting his passing, throwing it shorter and less frequent. So the interception numbers have improved. But the passing attack is still not good. Not all of it is on Lawrence of course, neither the system nor the talent around him helps him very much. But he certainly hasn't shown himself to be the sure fire hall of famer that some have him as, at least not yet. The Jets best game from a qb this year was Mike White's game. Zach Wilson finally had a decent game against the Eagles this past week though, although they still lost. Trey Lance hasn't played enough to show anything. Justin Fields has looked good at times, but the more they let him throw, the worse he looks. Only Jones has shown himself to be a solid performer so far. Of course, they are all rookies, and it could change. But this is why you can't judge them until they actually play.
-
There is no way to know if it really is a good class until after they are drafted and playing on Sundays. The past year was supposed to be a great class, but to this point, Jones is the only one that looks great. That could change of course. But I wouldn't write this coming season's class off just yet.

If they had promoted the OL or ST's coach, I think the screaming from the board would be heard around the world.

Panthers move up to 2nd in the division
Davidson Deac II replied to Evil Hurney's topic in Carolina Panthers
We are 2-0 in the division this year. Ironic if we actually end up with a winning division record. -
I agree completely, and no I don't trust Rhule. I just distrust him equally regardless of who from our current staff fills in as interim OC.

Depends on how you read resume's. Years of experience are to me less important than quality of experience, and Jeff Nixon's three years with Reid trumps anything on Ryan's. Of course, in the end, the actual difference is rather small. But I think (and this is not directed at you, but to the audience at large) it seems a strange thing for so many of the board patrons to be so concerned about Rhule hiring a guy he likes, who may only be here for five games. Almost all coaches hire their buddies/friends/former coworkers/people they are comfortable with as coordinators. I thought Ruhle hiring Brady was odd due to Brady's lack of experience and the fact that Ruhle hadn't worked with him much. This actually seems more normal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Ryan_(American_football_coach)#Detroit_Lions_(2019–2020) What it doesn't say, they lost the Tampa game 47-7 And then there was this gem. https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401220318
-
Even so, its still meh. Not enough of a difference to matter much. Either of them have more experience than Brady. Plus, his last job was with the Lions.
-
Meh, who else could it be on such short notice? We weren't going to go outside the organization to hire someone for five games, and I assume that virtually everyone on the staff is a Rhule selection so it was going to be someone that Rhule selected previously. And Nixon seems to have the most polished resume of the bunch.
-
Well, hopefully he does better than Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, and the guy that the Jets took.
