For that matter, higher first round picks usually don't provide that. Drafting a qb is a crap shoot regardless of where you pick.

What could have been. McD and Beane

Preseason. And it does matter these days. You can have a team loaded with talent, but if you can't get at least above average play at qb, Superbowl wins are exceedingly rare. -
Bucs lose another starting OL for the year
Davidson Deac II replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Given that he has missed some training camp, this is distinct possibility. -
I agree 100%. I think we might have seen some of Corral towards the end of the season if we were out of contention, but other than that, the only way he was going to see significant playing time this season was due to injury.
-
Probably a technicality, but Corral isn't actually on IR yet.
-
I read some articles on lisfranc, and best case scenario is he is out a minimum of six to eight weeks. But more likely 6-11 months. Probably out for the year, but I suppose we will learn more later.
-
I disagree. I think he has just as much a shot today as he did a week ago.
-
He is under contract. He should fully recover. So why would you think his career is over.

Corral to IR is a good thing….
Davidson Deac II replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
The problem comes if Baker is not a flop, but not great, ie he is somewhere in between. Then we have to decide whether we draft another qb (assuming we can get one we want), or resign Mayfield, or something else. -
Depends on whether they are designated to return. And that was what I was referring to. Matt Corral suffers "significant" injury (panthers.com) But I looked up lisfranc, and it might be season ending. I was thinking of the attempt to bring Cam back from it, when they didn't put him on season ending IR for a while. But if its non operative, he could in theory come back in 8-10 weeks.

Sorry, quoted the wrong one .

And what is your flawed prediction?

Well, to keep Corral, even on IR, he has to be on the final 53. So my guess is that it will be Corral, Darnold and Mayfield, with PJ on the practice squad (if he can be on the PS). And then Corral goes to IR, and PJ gets called up if needed.

Are they that much better then last season?
Davidson Deac II replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
A team never knows how good it will be until the season starts. Preseason is more about getting a look at individuals than the team. Given our past results, I don't have a lot of hope, but maybe the combination of a new qb, and other new players, as well as some additions to the coaching staff will be enough to make us competitive this year. -
I don't think we will go 0-3. For the last few years, our teams have done fairly well at the start of the season. 3-0 last year, 2-2 the year before. Its after we get past the first 3 or 4 games that we struggle.

Well, PJ doing a Sam Darnold impersonation. -
Made some nice throws, nearly had a pick 6. Showed some mobility.

Ebron spent the last half of last year on IR, and no team seems interested this year. That might be why he is asking us to bring him back home. No other options. -

Corral is looking better this game. That was probably a turnover, but not Corral's fault. -

A fanbase overreacts? I thought that only happened to us. -

PJ put that one in a perfect spot. -
Maybe we have to vacate some of our fourth-place finishes.

Story on the Joe Brady situation from Charles Robinson..
Davidson Deac II replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree. I mean essentially that was what Brady had at New Orleans, although he wasn't offensive coordinator. Personally, I just never bought into the hype that he was some up-and-coming superstar. I mean maybe he will be a star eventually, but he should have had to prove it somewhere besides a college team loaded with NFL talent before becoming an OC for an NFL team. -

Brady should have spent a few more years at LSU before becoming a NFL offensive coach. He had one year with a great collection of talent. He needed to show what he could do with an offense that wasn't clearly superior to every team they played.
