Last year, half the teams on Thanksgiving Day scored more than 30 points. Today, no one has yet, although MN/NE may. I don't have any stats to back it up, but it seems that scoring is down some this year.

Dan Graziano: Panthers interested in Frank Reich
Davidson Deac II replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
You said he didn't get to 500, you didn't specify this season. Picking one season is literally cherry picking. As far as him peaking, like any other coach, he might just need the right qb. Just like Belichick, or Reid or Pete Carroll, etc... -

As someone else mentioned, you got his record wrong. But being a retread worked for Pete Carroll, Andy Reid, Dick Vermeil, and Bill Belichick. It's certainly better than hiring a college coach. -
Yeah, it really sucks being surrounded by five-star recruits.

Both him and Young have the same drawback. They both play on teams that surround them with significantly more talent than any team they play. No way to know if they will succeed in the NFL where the talent levels are closer to even. But at least he does have NFL level size, where as Young is on the small side.

Hmmm, can't imagine that would happen. Fwiw, I think given their cap limitations, I think Atlanta's new coach has done an amazing job. Give him a solid qb, and they might be set for a while.

I am fairly certain he meant New Orleans. He is still technically under contract to them. And any team he goes to will have to compensate New Orleans.

Matt Rhule joins GMFB Tuesday & Wednesday

In the end, it was the absurd decisions that he made at qb that cost him his job. -
It's probably too early to make a judgement on any of those guys. Some guys take a lot longer than others to turn into a good NFL qb. Geno Smith took 9 years But last year's draft does show how high the bust potential is on any first round qb we pick. People assuming that any of them will be an NFL star is just wrong. I think this is especially true for QB's that come from a program like Alabama or Ohio State where they are surrounded by future NFL draft picks. I mean we almost have to draft a qb next year, just have to hope we get lucky and get the right combination of coach and qb.

Is that guy a friend of Frank's or something?
-
In fairness, Anderson does have to play behind Greg Dortch and some other guy.

I give more credit to Shanahan. I don't think we would be much better with Jimmy G than we are with Mayfield/Darnold/PJ.

I said coaching staff, but it wasn't just the coach. The GM's (Hurney and DG) played a huge role in the lack of talent on offense. Gettleman's obsession with size over actual talent hurt us on offense.

Its sad watching how well the forty whiners use CMC as an integrated part of an effective offense. Watching us run him into the ground thru the years, while other decent backs sat on the bench just shows how bad our coaching was.

Former NFL executive picks his top QB...
Davidson Deac II replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sometimes, they weren't really meh in college, they were just on meh teams. -
Ok, that one made me laugh a little.

He is in one of the better NFL divisions and had a 500 record with Taylor Heinke as his qb. So far, he is doing a fantastic job this year.
-
They also didn't have the best coaching staff during the Rivers years. For the life of me, I never understood firing Schotenheimer and hiring Norv.

Watching the Chargers and can't help but think that they have had some of the better quarterbacks in NFL history. Dan Fouts, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees (for a short time) and now Justin Herbert appears to be good. And yet, not a single SB appearance for any of them. Their one SB appearance was with Stan Humphries at qb. I don't think there is another team in the NFL that has done so little with so much.

Justin Fields 61 yard rushing touchdown
Davidson Deac II replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eventually, he will need to learn to get the ball out quicker. If he can do that, and be accurate, he could be very good. If not, his path will be more difficult. -

He has played well, no doubt about it. But at some point, defenses will just play contain and he will have to beat people with his arm. In truth, Detroit adjusted today, and he wasn't able to do anything on the last drive. How he reacts to those adjustments will determine whether he becomes great, or just another almost good enough.
