Doesn't help that they are an afterthought in their hometown.

Agreed, I have seen teams collapse, but I don't remember ever seeing a team going from dominant to getting blown out by teams at the bottom in half a season or less.

So why on earth would you take the points off the board, only to throw a low percentage deep pass to the end zone. Its fourth and five, get the first down.

It's really amazing how much Philly's offense has devolved over the last couple of months.

Baker was horrible with us. He was ok with Cleveland and is decent with Tampa. Which is why I don't think we can judge Young based on this past season's results.

How I would sell it is this. The perspective coach has one year to judge whether Bryce can be an effective NFL qb. If he can, then great. If not, then the new coach is very likely to have a high draft pick to grab someone new.

Its extremely difficult for them to upgrade. Tua is an average to slightly above average NFL QB. To upgrade him means getting a elite QB and those are exceedingly rare. If they get rid of Tua and try to draft someone, there is a high probability they will get someone worse.

Its not a good offense, no doubt. But I have seen it work for other teams better than it did for us, especially if you have a power back or some guys who are more of a threat with YAC. But for us, it was probably the worst Panthers offense I have ever seen.

Personally, I don't give a crap about Passionate when talking about GM's. I want a guy who makes good choices, if he does it in a boring manner, I am ok with that.

You might be right. Unfortunately, we didn't have the players to make that neutered offense remotely effective. It might have been nice to have a running back or a wr that could easily turn a 5 yard catch into 15-20 (CMC or DJ) or a rb that could power for 4-5 ypc on average (Foreman). But our most talented players from 2022 played for other teams this year.

I disagree, the more you invest in a rookie player, the more you need to be careful and work him in gradually. But at this point, its irrelevant.

I do think that coaches and fans tend to forget that each and every player is different. Some, like Cam or Stroud adjust quickly. Others don't. If I was a coach, I would take the opposite approach. Investing a number one pick would make me want to be more cautious and know throw him to the wolves.

Do you have some proof of that? I remember the board discussions seemed to split about 50/50. Certainly, the national opinion was split between the two.

Watching Jordan Love today, I can't help but wonder if Bryce would have been better off sitting a year. So many of the best qbs today did sit for a year, so its hard to say there is no way it would have helped. I know what some of you are going to say, he was a top pick, he should be ready to play immediately. But maybe that kind of thinking is why so many of the top qb picks don't live up to expectations.

I wouldn't say Tua and Hurts are flops. Future hall of famers, no. But not flops. Fwiw, I don't think any Ohio State qb has ever won a superbowl. Three bama qb's have won a super bowl, Ken the Snake Stabler, Bart Starr, and Joe Namath. Its been a while since it happened. It certainly is easier to succeed and look great at schools like Alabama and Ohio State. So maybe their college results should be taken with a grain of salt.

Anytime you pick a qb, its a crapshoot. Even if you are drafting #1 overall. The majority of them don't live up to expectations. It remains to be seen if we crapped out on Young, but certainly the first year results are not encouraging.

I cut all my streaming services. I may sign up for Apple when Masters of the Air comes on, but the cost of all of them was getting ludicrous. Also, at one point in time, boxing was one of the biggest sports in the US. Millions watched Sugar Ray Leonard or Ali on network TV. But all their main events were PPV. Don't get me wrong, boxing had a lot of problems, but PPV is one of the reasons that it is no longer a major sport. NFL should take that lesson to heart.

No, it wasn't. Opinions were mixed on the board and across the NFL. Stroud looks great, but Bryce could still work out. We will have to see what he can do next year.

That being said, they could both win tonight, but will likely be out next week.

College football has always had a handful of dominant programs, but the number of dominant programs has been significantly reduced over the last 20 years or so. There are only about 5-6 programs that have a real shot at the national championship. Alabama, usually one other team from the SEC, Ohio State, Michigan, usually one other team from the ACC, one team from the big 12 or pac 10 (and since the pac 10 will soon be gone, no more of that). Several programs that use to be powerhouses have fallen (nebraska, penn state, notre dame) and no one has replaced them. A team that finished the regular season with 1 loss in the 70's and 80's had no shot at the national championship unless there was no undefeated team. This years Alabama team in the 70's would have watched as Michigan and Washington played in the Rose Bowl and they were relegated to playing for a shot at second place in the polls. But with the playoffs, the winner of the SEC is almost automatically in, even if other teams that are undefeated are ahead of them in the polls. So yes, its easier for Saban to win it all than it was for Bryant.
