But you also have to factor in large numbers of soldiers returning to the US, Australia, and areas from Europe, And returning packed on a variety of ships with lower hygene standards.

Time to sell United today. Nearly doubled the amount I put into it. Got to find another stock to buy with what I made though.

Sold today at 11, so it worked out fairly well. I also bought some United stock, that I will hang on to for a while. Lost money on a couple of stocks, but overall I have made a decent amount. This is just a little playing around with it money that I am using right now, but hoping to make enough money to take the wife to Greece next spring. Or at least pay for the air fare.

Good luck. My sister inlaw that lives in Los Angeles and works in healthcare actually had Covid 19. It was a rough two weeks for her, far worse than any of the strands of flu she had.

I have to admit I would wait and see. Let others go first, and then see what happens. But unfortunately, my wife would likely be required to get it.

If memory serves, the original purpose of the lockdown was keep the Hospitals from getting overwhelmed as happened in Italy. There were a number of news articles about it in March. Also, they wanted to give manufacturing a chance to catch up with the critical need for medical equipment. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/coronavirus/article241337291.html

I lived in Hawaii for three years, and if I could afford it, I would retire there. I hate snow and cold.

I don't think they should send money to the upper wage earners who haven't lost their jobs. Although sorting it all out would be difficult. I got money during the last stimulus, but I didn't really need it. Both my wife and I are still working, and in truth, we aren't spending much money. So I wasn't sure why I got it. But I spent it by having an out of work friend install a new floor in our kitchen, so I suppose that is the point of sending us the money, ie to keep the economy moving.

American Airlines is at 9.5 or so a share. Thinking about buying a few shares. My only concern would be if they eventually have to declare bankruptcy, but that doesn't look likely right now.

There are over 300 million Americans, and you really believe that not a single one is humble?

That game was on the NFL network yesterday. I watched a few minutes of it.

FYI, its human nature around the world.
-
Well, yes and no. Preparedness for things that happened in the past is relatively easy to get dollars for. Before 9-11, if they asked congress for money to prepare for a terrorist attack with hijacked airliners, the laughter would have been loud. Afterwards, it was easy to get money to help prevent another similar attack. Same with Pearl Harbor. Human nature I guess to prepare for the threats you know instead of the ones that are mostly theoretical. We are usually ill prepared the first time something happens, but better the second time. Assuming the second time is within living memory.

Since we are at war with the Virus. I love the smell of Clorox in the morning. Smells like victory.

No doubt we could have handled it a lot better. I certainly didn't mean to excuse the things our government did or did not do. But South Korea certainly had a much easier situation to deal with.
-
South Korea is smaller than South Carolina. And they are one of the most easily isolated countries in the world. They have one land border no one crosses. Basically, if you shut down one airport, and a couple of shipping ports, the country is isolated from the rest of the world. The US has more ports of entry in California than South Korea has in the whole country. The level of difficulty of implemting restrictions and responding to a pandemic in a country the size of the US is dramatically higher than in South Korea.

Hoping its just a flaw in the test, and not true virus behavior.

Well, this is disconcerting. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/03/27/822407626/mystery-in-wuhan-recovered-coronavirus-patients-test-negative-then-positive

A lab designed virus, ala Tom Clancy's rainbow six novel, would be far more lethal.

IMO, the president and governors should come out and say bluntly that in two weeks, they will reassess the situation. Make no promises one way or the other, but tell people that they will decide to extend based on the situation then. Of course, people would read into that what they wanted to hear instead of what was actually said, but stupidity can't be helped.
-
Assuming that means what I think it means, so sorry to hear it.

I worked for Wachovia. Maybe its different for various departments, but we were never on a 2% limit.
