Pump the brakes, tiger. My KB comment was just for fun and not related to Miller, Miller's choices or your comment. If you read through a few comments back, you would see where I am a huge fan of Miller.

Can you imagine if KB was still here and took a year off for Covid.....yikes!
-
I was high on Miller heading into 2020 and am pulling for him big time this year. Def in that JAG category with his work cut out for him for now, but the flexibility he would bring in allowing Chinn to play more SAF is huge. I am envisioning a highly competitive camp between guys like Miller (24 yo), Robinson (22 yo), Carter (25), Franklin (24) & Orr (23).

Agreed....the only trades that come to mind for this deal is Walker and Ricky Williams...neither are QBs. I feel like if we substitute YGM instead of Burns to the packages being offered, we should get a deal done. 21 FRP 22 FRP 23 FRP CMC YGM Keeping our 2nds and 3rds will go a long way and we can find another RB. YGM hurts, but still having Burns and Brown on our DL and Chinn in the secondary doesn't set us back as much. We can sign someone like Carson or draft a RB in the fourth round.

Weatherly and Palardy ALSO being released today!
Soul Rebel replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed. I think Curtis was always going to be a luxury re-signing with Robby and DJ here. I believe the trenches are more important than a WR3, especially with CMC here. Flip side to the coin is that Robby and DJ are FAs in '22. Samuel could ensure that we have depth at that position if we part ways with either or both. Moton is the key to our offseason. Everything after him is gravy. I do think we can find a cheaper WR than Samuel in FA.....it is a loaded position group. We wait it out a bit and we can snag someone for sure. -

Re-sign Larsen. I personally think Paradis played waaaay better and almost to the level that we expected when first signed, so I'm not necessarily pushing him out the door. However, Larsen would be cheaper and give us a good option. The question would be dead money moving forward. I know we are trying to move away from that and shoot for a clean sheet. $8.5M could be the difference though in bringing back Samuel/Douglas though. -
La Canfora on Tepper's desire for Watson/franchise QB

If we had 10 Brian Burns' on D, we wouldn't need DW.....Our defense might outscore the offense. -
La Canfora on Tepper's desire for Watson/franchise QB
Soul Rebel replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
CMC, yes.... Burns/Chinn - please no! If we are giving up three first rounders in addition, we will have a real struggle surrounding Watson with talent on both sides. -
Maybe I'm misreading the amount we have available, but if we have $24M in cap space and you have to earmark ~ $10M for rookies, we have $14M in cap space. Tagging Moton would be around $14M. I wonder if eating KK's hit this year and trying to have a clean sheet in '22 by Suleiman is an indicator of our direction for a QB. A QB on a rookie contract vs. Watson/Wentz/vet is looking more and more like the chess move. 2022 will be our year to start finishing off the roster. Rhule's third year, Teddy off the books and two rookie classes on the books.

Gimme the two Smiths - Jaylon and Jonnu. Both are 25 years old and would look great in Charlotte. A back 7 unit anchored by Smith-Shaq-Chinn would be nasty. I do really like Njoku, so getting him would be a great get too, though I feel Smith is more of what we are looking for.

A 23 year old QB in a crappy situation, 2 HCs and 2 OCs in 3 years, after being drafted #3 overall. Sounds like from an asset standpoint, Darnold could be the right blend of losing draft picks, without gutting the franchise and still having capital left to move forward with drafting talent this year, and in 2022.

Agree that Lawrence is more of a lock, but I do think a QB selection at 3 would give us one as well. If we sit pat at 8 and use hope as our strategy, we are doomed. If we were at 5, I'd feel better, but at 8, too much risk. Atlanta, Philly, Detroit, Denver, SF, NE, Washington, Pittsburgh, Indy, Chicago and maybe even Vegas all have needs for a young QB. If we stay at 8 and all of the big 4 QBs are taken and DW is traded elsewhere, we are fugged. Our next options are Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, Jamie Newmann (who I really do like), Carson Wentz, Mitchell Trubisky, David Carr, Marcus Mariota or Jimmy G. Yes, we could get a top OL/CB/LB at 8, but nothing we've done this offseason makes me think we will sit and wait at 8. We've unfortunately shown our hand to all 31 teams and Teddy. Time to pony up and finish what we started....just have to hope Fitterer is better at negotiating than Hurney.

I wanted DW here, but assumed it was a pipe dream, simply because: #2 overall > #8 overall #23 overall > #39 overall #34 overall > #39 overall 2022 NYJ 1st round pick > Carolina's 2022 1st round pick 2022 NYJ 2nd round pick > Carolina's 2022 2nd round pick Darnold > Teddy (only because of age, ceiling and contract) It sucks for HOU that DW stays in the AFC, but the ROI is worth it. Can't be scared to be the best. If we got Watson, we'd be playoff bound....or at worst, our draft pick would be 18th or higher. I don't see the NYJ besting that next year.
-
I'm confused by the outrage. If there is a QB at 8, we take him. If we don't think there will be a QB at 8, we move up for a QB. We give up a FRP next year and this year's 2nd in order to secure a franchise QB on a rookie deal for the next 5 years. Gotta give to get, and if we already planned on taking a QB at 8, we are giving up two assets to get the most important position secured. I hate giving up either pick, but if it solves our QB situation, why not? Watson guts us of assets and will waste at least two years here with a supporting cast before we can add good pieces around him.

Reuter is a bum analyst and his mocks annoy me. However.... I am 110% on board with this. I do think one of those 3rd or 4ths could be removed or maybe have a 5th or something coming back. Keeping both 2nd rounders this year and next is huge and not franchise depleting. Future comp picks and Fitterer can recoup some of those lost picks, IMO.

If a QB isn’t there at 8... Slater is your pick
Soul Rebel replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Last home run we hit with an OT in the first round was at #8 overall, Jordan Gross, so I'd be happy with Slater at 8. Plug him in at RT, move Moton to LT and ride the bookend tackles for the next decade. That being said, best case scenario for us would be to get one of Watson, Fields, Wilson, Lance, or Darnold without giving up our 2nd round pick this year. Drafting an OT in R2 should present great value and would give Moton a partner to tangle with at OT. Either way, we need an OT with one of our first two draft picks AND re-sign Moton. -
"Multiple Teams have reached out to the Jets about Darnold"
Soul Rebel replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Unfortunately, your last sentence is pretty much the key to any QB this offseason. That being said, the Darnold deal sounds tough. The Jets want a FRP.... not happening. Our 2nd round pick is a very late first round pick, so that would align, but I don't want to give that up per se. Ideally a trade for us that makes sense is 2021 3rd rounder + something. Jets probably balk at that and would settle for something more in the mid-late 2nd round area. I could really see an Indy or a Pittsburgh making the deal more given where they are picking in the draft. -
Sidebar - can we all be thankful that that Hurney isn't still here trying to negotiate for these QBs. If you want to have concerns for the future, picture Hurney on the other end of the phone with Houston, Detroit, Philadelphia and the Jets.

"Multiple Teams have reached out to the Jets about Darnold"
Soul Rebel replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I just think that Anderson was with Darnold for those first two years and part of the sh*t show that was the Jets coaching/front office. Perhaps in practices, meetings, off the field, Darnold showed a lot of what you want and has potential that was being held back by the incompetence of Bowles/Gase and their awful OCs. Robby has been a gift here and I would like to think that Rhule would listen a bit to what RA had to say. -

I also wonder if the timing of the leak on the NYJs side is aligning with the Texans continuing to double down on their stance on holding onto Watson. If I'm HOU, the Jets and 'Phins are the two teams in my scopes. Top-3 picks this year a second pick in the first round this year, a young QB that still has potential to build around and cap space that either team can take on/support Watson with. I think we will be on Watson's short list, but in the end, DW coming here is just not in the cards, IMO. -

I wonder if Robby has chimed in at all. Darnold has the skill set, the build, the arm and sneaky mobile. What's between the ears is the question and how horrible his mentoring was up to this point in helping elevate his skills. I still think Darnold can be a great QB in this league. He might not be Brees, Brady or Mahomes.... but I could see a Tannehill/Rivers/Stafford type of trajectory. -

Asking price was rumored to be a FRP according to Schefty. Clearly we aren’t giving that up, but I do think Darnold for the right price would be a solid move. Robby would def have some input too. Bowles & Gase were awful Head Coaches too. -
I was hoping Jabril Cox would slip to the 3rd round, but I don't see him there anymore for us. I could see as you pointed out, some WR/TE/OL from late in the draft that Rhule & Co saw up close being a gem for us.
-
As long as we don't give up our 2nd this year, I'm fine with two firsts, a second and a third going back to move up to 3. I actually like the CLE-PHI trade. They wouldn't receive our 2nd rounder for two years in that deal. With a good QB on our roster, we should be picking in the 20's in two years. That 2nd rounder in 2023 isn't as impactful as a 2nd rounder this and next year. In that deal, we would receive a 4th rounder next year coming back our way. The only part of that deal that really stings, is next year's first and this year's third. We would have two years to try and regain a 2nd round value that we lost, but in another trade. Having our 2nd round pick this year and next allows us to add a top-50 rookie deal to our roster this year, and next. TLDR: If its a PHI-CLE structured deal to move to #2 and get "our guy", I'm doing it yesterday. Watson is a pipe dream that will gut our assets.
-
Nope. If we are going to roll the dice on a 28 year old mediocre QB, why trade for one when we already have that on the roster. Wentz, Jimmy G, Trubisky, Winston, Carr..... all are in the same boat for us. None move the needle anymore than Teddy. Judging by our aggressiveness, it’s either moving up in the draft to get our QB on a rookie deal or emptying the cupboards for Watson.
