It's so crazy to imagine it any other way. Owner - pays the bills and has input in decisions, but does not decide per se GM - key decision maker. walks the tightrope between coaching/players/personnel (Reich, coordinators, players), the directors and behind the scenes guys (Morgan, Suleimann, etc.) and the Owner HC - runs the on-field product and runs up to the GM his vision/requests/design needs. Works hand-in-hand with GM and has input into decisions.

But in two years when Hurst’s contract is up that TE will be ready for TE1 reps. This TE class is loaded with talent and deep.

I believe these FA signings have showed us that Carolina has bought 2 years to find the future at TE and WR. Hurst and Thielen are on the wrong side of 30 and are a temporary fix....though will be productive here for the next couple of seasons. We've got the next two offseasons to figure out our WR1 and TE1 of the future.

Unfinished Business (Second most cap room in NFL at $30m)

Chark Floyd or Ngakoue Shaquill Griffin was drafted by Fitts in Seattle and could add CB depth...or they wait until TC cuts and add a vet. -
This is why Bryce Young undoubtedly is QB1
Soul Rebel replied to Ivory Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm a Cam stan and loved every minute he was in Carolina, but agree with you...there were reasons why he did not succeed as much as he could have here. Injuries, rarely slid properly, took unnecessary hits and the coaching staff did very little to surround him with talent. I think Young has learned to play a style that works to his benefit....highly cerebral, anticipatory and knows how to reestablish the pocket to open windows for himself. Whether or not this translates from college to the NFL is the big question. NFL players are faster, hit harder and everyone is a 5-star stud compared to college. Throwing windows, defensive schemes and pressure is a different animal. -

Soul Rebel replied to Ivory Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
As a fan of a franchise that very recently had a prototypical, athletic freak of a QB, Cam only enjoyed maybe 6-7 years of injury-free ball before his play sharply declined. There is simply no way to predict productivity vs. injury at the next level. Young could be an outlier, or he could be part of the huge sample size. -
Jason LaCanfora: Dave Tepper loves Bryce Young
Soul Rebel replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
FWIW, I get the vibe that..... Brown and Caldwell know that Bryce is the better choice. I think McCown wants Stroud. Reich and Fitts are connected now and will end up being the final call, IMO. The Teppers have done a better job this offseason of asking what Fitty and Reich need and providing the resources to accomplish this. I think they 100% have input, but inevitably will fade into the background after putting in their two pennies. I think Reich will entrust Brown, McCown, Caldwell and Dekker to put in their thoughts and come to a final decision. Reich will then discuss with Fitterer and finalize our future QB1. -
We can't go wrong with either selection. Let the guys that get paid to know this stuff make the call. There's advantages and disadvantages to both prospects. I'm a CJ7 guy and if the organization called me while on the clock that highly anticipated Thursday night in April asking for me to break the tie, I would take Stroud. That being said, I would love Bryce here for the next decade as well. Pro-days are the only thing less indicative of a prospect than the combine...and I LOVE watching both.

Panthers are taking Stroud, and Houston knows it
Soul Rebel replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think what it will come down to is if the Panthers braintrust has these guys as equal for different reasons and truly happy with either one in their system, then a trade down with HOU is possible. We make it simple... #1 overall to HOU #2 overall + 2024 First Round Pick to CAR Houston probably ends up in the top-10 next year again and we do everything we can to move up for Harrison, Jr. or Egbuka with the Houston pick + whatever. Draft our TE1 of the future this year at 39 and have our future HOF WR next year. The Burrow/Chase model 2.0 in Carolina. -

When healthy, it didn't seem like the coaching staff new how to use him properly last year. He was an ideal depth fit for Evero and Wash's D.

After hearing Fitts say that we are still looking for a "vertical speed guy", Chark and Hardman are the only two that fit the bill worth a WR2 spot. The rest are JAGs and I have to assume they aren't referring to Shi or Laviska. Chark is the bigger body with speed and closer potential to a WR1....though he's still a fringe guy and more of a high-end WR2. I think we end up with Hardman, who's only 25 and then get a guy like Tillman, Perry or Mingo in the draft to find our X.

2022 Thielen + Sanders + Hurst = 2477 yds 19 TDs 2022 DJ + Foreman + CMC (6 games) = 2498 yds 15 TDs It sucked to lose DJ, a fan favorite, but.... We moved from 9 --> 1 A new franchise QB1 is finally in our sights A competent, loaded coaching staff at the helm Still room to add another WR and/or TE Cap flexibility in '24 (though it is starting to dwindle) It's a great time to be a Panthers fan. Thielen will thrive here as a WR2 in '23 if he can stay healthy....probably becomes the WR3 in '24 and then is off the roster in '25. No reason to think he can't put up 50-750-7TD next year.

Well, Young and Kyler's measurements and concerns leading up to the draft are quite similar. They are absolutely different types of QBs.... Kyler is mobile/hyper-athletic with a more lively arm. Young is more of a pocket passer with insane IQ and touch. Both were highly successful in college and worthy of the #1 overall selection. Check out Kyler being drafted and what is being said leading up to the selection and once he's drafted....sound familiar? Young's playing weight is probably closer to 195 than 205. This will have to increase and probably take until 2024 before he hits that marker. The height you can figure out....the frame/weight is the bigger concern. The NFL is faster, stronger, smarter and windows are tighter.
-
Yeah, that was an outburst for sure. It also fired him up....and then he scored three TDs that day.
-
I thought it was more about injuries and underperforming based on being a top-15 selection. That DEN offense hasn't been the most well-comanded offense since he arrived. I think the entire WR unit was pretty frustrated with last year's guidance. Jeudy's route running, speed and youth is worth #39 IMO. You're not finding a talent like him in that draft slot.

How Carolina can / has already Improved the Passing Game
Soul Rebel replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agree 100% on TMJ stepping up with this coaching staff. Brown and Jefferson will have him primed for big time....def a RZ threat for a young QB. I'm of the opinion that Shenault should be more of a Patterson/Harvin type of weapon then be depended upon for a heavy WR workload. Gadgety guy that should have been used more out of the backfield...especially with Sanders threatening back there. If we could bring in someone like Sutton and have two big-bodied targets with he and TMJ that would be outstanding. Then snag Flowers in the draft....we would be in great shape. -
I'm good on all these vet WRs. All over 30, banged up and would only be part of our org for 2....maybe 3 years max. Nuk is the only one I can get onboard with, but he's going to cost a pretty penny in draft assets and $$. I'd prefer to go the Burrow route.... draft his comp - CJ Stroud and build young WRs to grow with him and around him. A guy like Jeudy or Sutton makes more sense if you want a vet. Sutton is a towering guy that is 27 with an 1100 yd season under his belt and three 700+ yd season. Jeudy is a precision route runner with 4.4 speed, and only 23 who hit 970yds-6TD last year. OBJ and Landry bring way too much drama to a young locker room that isn't competing for a deep playoff/SB run. I lowkey wouldn't mind bringing in Hardman/Chark and also signing someone like Marquez Callaway on the cheap. Put up 700yds & 6TDs in '21 and was overshadowed by Olave/Thomas last year.
-
Takes pressure off Mays to be "thee guy" too. I'm sure the vet presence will help Mays in TC.

I wonder if the snag with guys like Thielen and Chark are their injury history and us needing to backload their deals due to our cap in '23. It might pose a conundrum for Carolina with oft-injured talent on short deals. Hardman has also had his injuries in the past too....same with Sutton. Campbell just got a one-year deal in NY.
-
We needed depth to hold down the fort until Corbett is ready, so not mad about this if it's for peanuts. Def not the signing I was hoping for today, but makes sense.

Marc Ryan - "Carolina Zeroed in on Stroud and Richardson"
Soul Rebel replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's like someone said earlier in the eval process..... A coach can risk being fired over Anthony Richardson. If you select him and he busts, you're fired. If you don't select him and he becomes the next great QB, you better hope "your guy" is a franchise QB or else.
