  1. Already screen shot this for when he crashes and burns. The guy is trash. You were probably one of the people excited about the Bridgewater signing also. We are stuck in mediocrity for even longer now congrats!
  2. Jimmy Garrapolo is a legit starting QB. Teddy and Darnold are not on his level. I would be very excited if the Panthers were able to come away with Jimmy G. The obstacles are obviously his contract, can’t pay him and Teddy so a trade won’t work, and obviously he’s injury prone. The Niners seem to have an out with his contract this season, so I actually expect that he has a higher chance of being cut rather than traded. Unless they actually do want to let the rookie sit a year which is hard to believe but they are in win now mode so it’s plausible (think Chiefs with Alex the year Mahomes sat)
  3. Darnold has not shown that he can be consistent enough to win in the NFL. Every QB can come in and make some throws once in a while ( even look at Rypien last season) but the guys who are consistent and don’t turn the ball over become starters. Sam Darnold is also not as athletic as Ryan Tannehill. I get the career arc seems similar as Darnold is destined to join another team. But when Tanny doesn’t have it teams still have to respect him going outside the pocket and taking off. Darnold doesn’t have that part of his game to lean on when the passing game isn’t working. You can try hiding him behind a great rushing attack like the Titans did with Tanny early on but at some point he’s gonna have to make some throws. I know everyone is eager to upgrade from Teddy, but Darnold isn’t an upgrade. Teddy is just a better QB right now and that’s the truth.
  4. Let’s be clear, this is Rhules team, and he has final say. Fitterer is definitely a major contributor in all phases though. I like the moves they have made so far. The two olineman I’m not thrilled with, but Fox, Reddick, and Arnold look like fantastic pickups. Still waiting for them to address the secondary...
  5. Stopping the run is obviously important. But it’s a passing league today, and getting pressure is much more important. I agree that Perryman is very good against the rush, and a second year of Brown in the middle getting more comfortable should also help. Those two could be the key. The front 7 is legit there’s no way around it. The secondary tho, outside of Chinn is absolute garbage. Can a great front 7 mask that? It can to an extent, but I would def feel more comfortable with atleast one real good CB. There’s still some relatively young upside vets available who they can bring in like Kevin King or Dunbar (Fitterer connection). I was personally hoping for Xavier Rhodes he would have been perfect . Rashaan Melvin better not be the only signing that’s all I’m saying as this defense looks ready to compete. If the Panthers didn’t need a QB so badly as well I would be banging on the table for a CB at 8..
  6. While I continue to wait for a much needed influx of talent into the Panthers secondary, especially at CB, I have to say this defensive line has me excited. This Dline/Front 7 is going to give QBs fits. The sack potential is through the roof if they can stay healthy. Burns, YGM, Redick, Fox, and Brown is such an impressive group they have put together. We also have multipositional athletes like Chinn, Shaq and Carter coming off the edge which will keep teams on their heals. The question will remain, can they stop the run? Everyone knows outside of the QB and possibly LT, the Defensive Line is the most important part of your football team, and Rhule has assembled a great one. Now go get a real competent CB!
  7. LT or CB..assuming we don’t like the value trade back, or take Pitts
  8. Good signing, injury prone tho, guess that’s a common theme with our FO
  9. I mean if we are being honest anyone we bring in will be better than what we have. The Panthers probably have the worst collection of CB talent in the NFL They made Rasul Douglas a camp casualty look like a pro bowler..Maybe Pride takes a step this year, maybe Dante stays healthy and doesn’t get abused by bigger WRs. Both are doubtful..
  10. King is a good slot corner, and will be priced as such. Xavier Rhodes would be a nice short term signing as he rebounded nicely last year but he’s likely headed to a contender like SF. After that it’s a bunch of Jags, but the Panthers absolutely need a CB. Maybe Rasul is resigned, he was pretty good last year.
  11. Xavier Rhodes is another guy who actually had a good year last year, might be looking at a one year prove it deal and would be worth signing. Again, a lot of these guys if forced to take less money in a depressed market place are going to try and suit up for contenders. Unfortunately the Panthers still aren’t there yet..
  12. Clowney hasent lived up to the hype, but as it’s been mentioned in the previous post he’s still a threat and a worry for opposing OCs. He would fit right into our D if he took a reasonable deal. A combo of Clowney, Burns Brown and YGM coming at you would be awesome. I expect Clowney is trying to go to a contender tho which we are not and shouldn’t be expensive..
  13. Head scratcher, this was our splash first signing? This guy is hot garbage. I’m so confused..
  14. Naturally you look for player connections. Will Fitterer bang in the table for Shaq Griffen? Maybe Dunbar? Rhule has a past with intriguing FA pass rusher Hasaan Redick, who on paper looks every bit of a 3-4 edge but could be an interesting LB option if they believe he has some “positional flexibility”. I definitely see some CB and OL signings coming, and would enjoy a Norwell reunion.
  15. This notion that Mac Jones can’t throw the deep ball reminds me of the Watson criticism when he was coming out. Everyone was saying how he seemed to lack arm strength and ball velocity. How did that work out? Macs uncorked some beautiful deep balls, and with some tremendous accuracy. He has his warts, but I don’t believe his deep ball is one of them.
  16. It never made any sense to me, and still doesn’t. It’s a move that sadly has Hurneys fingerprints all over it. The move, and I said it at the time was simple. You let Cam Newton play out the final year of his contract. If he plays well great, you can sign him, or you can tag and trade him while his value is up. If he plays like ass your letting him walk, and ultimately picking in the top 5 and drafting a QB for the future. I don’t know why this was such a difficult concept for the front office and frankly is a move that’s given me pause. It was the play to make. Instead they signed Teddy, completely killing any trade opportunities they may have had for Cam. Once Teddy was signed everyone knew Cam was about to become a casualty. I just don’t understand the rush in signing him, nor the contract. I’m praying I’m right and it was all Hurney because if it was Rhules incompetence I’m worried. But I’m confident only Hurney can mess a situation up this bad, he’s just done this so many times before. Good riddance to Marty Hurney the worst thing that’s ever happened to this franchise.
  17. Jimmy G healthy is a very good QB. The Niners are frustrated with his injuries rightfully so, but to say he’s an upgrade over Teddy is an understatement.
  18. Let’s not pretend Teddy isn’t a starter in the NFL, he’s a game manager and he has limitations but in the right system (which we have) you can win games with Teddy Bridgewater. Yes we will have to rely more on CMC, and yes we would be better off with a QB who can hit the deep ball constantly to take advantage of our stud wideouts , but those guys don’t grow on trees. Im half the front office is being aggressive about getting their guy, and I’m sure Teddy has some perceived value if they shopped him. They could probably get a 4th/5th or so for him. He wouldn’t be particularly expensive to the acquiring team as the panthers would have to eat some of the money and he’s easy to cut next off-season for nothing. Plenty of teams looking for QB competition or depth. I actually wouldn’t be shocked if he was traded as from what I understand it would be better to the panthers cap then cutting him.
  19. When are people going to stop looking at CMC as a “running back” and start looking at him as a modern day NFL nuclear weapon. This guy does so much more than just run the ball. He can be lined up all over the place, and is just as lethal running routes as a WR. Yes RBs are on average replaceable, Christian McCaffrey is not a replacement level player. I can’t even begin to imagine what his stats would have looked like with a full year this past season under Joe Brady considering what an inferior player like Mike Davis did. I’m also not upset that he had his mileage dialed back in a down year as we are going to need him going forward.
  20. Part of this is true also, and mostly is dependent on the QB position. If the Panthers end up taking a rookie QB, with Teddy inevitably off the books the Panthers will ultimately still have a lot of cap room next offseason. You have to also assume that at minimum 3-4 of this years draft choices will be on the roster next season also for cheap. Plus the bottom of the roster isn’t typically expensive. You churn that out year after year. Basically the Panthers even with a trade for Watson and some major signings will have plenty of space to do whatever they want next season so I still don’t see why they wouldn’t open up some more space this year by pushing some money down the road.
  21. The Panthers will have close to $100 mill in cap space next season, with them being relatively tight this off-season it makes sense to push some money into future years. Remember the cap can always be manipulated, the Saints have been doing it for a decade.
  22. La Canfora is literally the worst of the worst when it comes to NFL news. His sources are him piggybacking on other reports he reads, I would not take anything he says seriously nor do I understand why he still has a job. In fact when he reports something the opposite is more likely to occur. He’s the Bob Nightengale of the NFL beat.
  23. Smitty should get in, but I’d also be surprised if he was first ballot. That would be awesome if he was though..
  24. Moton is the priority, then Curtis who I would love to keep but understand if the money isn’t right as there are other priorities (CB, LB, the entire Oline). Scott showed some upside, but the rest are all replaceable JAGs from a 5 win team. This is a copycat league. Teams see what the Buccs just did and it didn’t fall on deaf ears. Expect the Rams, Seahawks, Niners, Packers to position themselves to go all in and try and challenge Tampa while the window is still open. The Panthers are not at that stage yet as they need to find the QB of the future first. If they acquire Watson all bets are off, but otherwise we won’t be able to compete in this arms race for the next 2 years as these teams load up.
