So then, we’ve got a WR corps to build. What do y’all got?
NJPanthers89 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Paris Campbell is the name to watch. Shouldn’t be too expensive and has high upside. Is he a #1? No way, but he’s a very competent WR to have. The only real WR1 available is Nuk, and I’m not sure the Panthers have the ammunition to acquire him after this trade. Jakobi is a borderline WR1, who I really like but not for the money he’s going to command. Lazard is a very solid WR2, and DJ Chark is still young with some real upside as well. Hopefully we stay away from Juju.. Panthers can really change the WR room quickly with a combo of FA and the draft, but have to be smart about it. Flowers should be the target with the 2nd round pick, maybe Fitt has to trade up though to get him. This TE class is also the deepest in years, and some solid FAs as well. -

This TE group in the draft is considered one of the best in years. Wasting resources on a Dalton Shultz would be monumentally stupid when there will be studs in the 2nd and 3 rounds. Especially since they paid Ian Thomas whose awful for some reason already. Fitterers signing of Thomas and Djax were some of the dumbest moves ive seen since Hurney and thats saying something. WR i can see them being aggressive but who's really out there. Paris Cambell with the Reich connection? DJ Chark? We are not paying for jakobi Meyers whose the cream of the crop.

Ryan Poles trying to drive up the cost of the #1 pick
NJPanthers89 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fitterer should be dangling Burns in leu of one or two of the future first rounders. Chicago needs a DE badly, and also has a $100 mill in cap space to sign Burns without blinking. Otherwise they should have traded Burns to LA and used that ammo (2 firsts reported) to move up for the QB of the future. -
I love Jimmy G, the guy just wins (and yes he's better than Carr let's be real). He's actually a really good quarterback and would be a nice get for this team as a bridge QB. The "problem" with Jimmy is the constant injuries. Which if anyone paid attention last year struck practically every Niners QB they had. Signing Jimmy also ensures this team can be competitive next year regardless if we draft a QB or not. There are no guarantees that we are going to land a rookie QB in the first this year. I expect the Panthers to be aggressive, im praying it happens, but i'm not dumb enough to think something cant go wrong and we get frozen out of a signal caller. The other team has to agree to the terms we offer, so it's not all in our hands. There are multiple teams in front of us that also want QBs. If we fail to land one of the 4, at least Jimmy will give us some stability in the short term. You can look back on my posts, i hated the Teddy signing, i also really hated the Darnold signing. Baker was a very low risk move that was worth exploring, it didn't hurt us whatsoever. Jimmy is on another level than those guys and i would be genuinely excited. Now i also don't think we are the leader to sign him, based on reports Vegas is the team to watch. I also have to believe Fitterer will have a good idea of our chances of trading up before free agency starts next week. So if the Panthers are aggressive in signing Jimmy, you can take that as a sign they are not confident a move up is happening and your stuck waiting for someone to drop to 9.

Was listening to Boomer Esiason this morning, he makes no secret that Frank Reich is his best friend. He spoke about Carr for a while this morning and the potential of the Jets signing him (it’s a NY/NJ marketed show), and Boomer is pretty adamant that it’s going to be between the Saints and Panthers and that he think Carolina is the perfect fit and where he sees him landing. Again he talks to Reich regularly . it might be settling in that we won’t be able to get down far enough to get one of the top 3 guys, which in that case makes Carr our best available option. Looks like Indy and Houston are guaranteed to take 2 of them.

Trading a picK for Jordan Love or Lance may be realistic. These are young high upside players who haven’t had much of an opportunity yet. It‘s a gamble but unless you sign a Vet who hits the market (which is rare) it’s always a gamble. I prefer Love to Lance personally. Again this all comes down to the draft and if the Panthers think they can secure the QB they want. A rookie signal caller should be priority number 1. I also don’t see much difference in Lance and drafting Richardson for example. Two high upside athletic players.

Hell no Daniel Jones is not the answer lol

If Carr after he's cut is willing to take a one year prove it deal then i'm open to signing him if he will take $20-25 mill. He can be a bridge QB to our newly drafted rookie 1st rounder, and significantly raise the level of play in the QB room. This will also provide us insurance should we not land a rookie QB in April. Let the potential rookie, Carr and Corral all fight it out, competition is good. One of these 3 potential options has to hit lol. I most certainly am not trading anything for Carr unless he's willing to redo his contract, and even then it would be nothing of value (like a 6th max).

Under No Circumstances Should We Trade a Haul for a QB/Pick
NJPanthers89 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Bears are not getting a first rounder for Fields, every team would wait them out knowing they won’t keep both QBs in that scenario . Fields would probably go for a second rounder as the second the Bears draft his successor he is devalued and they have lost major leverage. -
Someone mentioned this on twitter, but Mrs. Tepper saw her husband get bamboozled by Rhule because he was a slob and she's like I got this one. So far the interview requests have been spot on. I'm sure Fitt is going to make his recommendation on the football side, but she probably has a good judge of character. I'm willing to give her a shot.

Under No Circumstances Should We Trade a Haul for a QB/Pick
NJPanthers89 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Colts already have stated they will do whatever it takes to move up and secure their guy. I suspect the Panthers will be aggressive also as they should. The haul the Bears are gonna receive is going to be too rich for them to pass on. Whoever misses on 1 will probably move on to Arizona's pick at 4 for the 3rd QB as the Texans will take whoever's left at 2 (Levis or Stroud). I think by the time the combine concludes Levis and Young will be the conversation at 1. The Panthers should be able to secure one of the top 3 guys with the amount of ammo we acquired from the CMC trade. -
Again the problem is that if you run a successful offense in the NFL, your OC is going to get poached for a HC job. Because the league is skewed towards offense and scoring points. Teams know that, look who the Panthers are bringing in. So if the Panthers hire Wilks, and he brings in a stud OC to run his system, that guy is probably gone within 2 years. Your gonna trust that he can find another guy that quick, and we can keep some continuity for our perceived young QB were about to draft? It's too tough, which is why you need an offensive minded HC. If the OC gets poached things continue, nothing changes, the coach either calls plays or he hires someone to run his offense. Thats the way of the NFL today, high octane offense and blue collar defense.
-
The only defensive coach we are interviewing is Wilks. Tepper thankfully understands you’re at a disadvantage by not having an offensive minded HC.

Icky will start at LT if he’s ready, if he’s not Brady will. Rhule needs to win to keep his job, and if the rookie isn’t ready to keep Baker clean then they need to go with the bpa. There is a learning curve to playing in the NFL, Evan Neal (playing RT) is getting beat like a drum in Giants camp. It’s still early, let’s see how Icky looks by preseason game 3..

Baltimore and Eagles looking to trade up....
NJPanthers89 replied to Lurk21's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would rather the Eagles deal so that we can try and get Penning and Pickett. That would be a HR of a first round. -
"What are we doing in the draft" 2022 edition.
NJPanthers89 replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
How does getting Baker continue to dig that hole? He’s only going to be signed for this year and is going to cost next to nothing in draft compensation. If he sucks he’s gone at the end of the year and we will be in a position to draft a QB again, and if he’s good we’ll then we can pay him accordingly or franchise him. The guy actually has talent, something Darnold wishes he had. I’m very in on giving Baker a chance, the odds of him hitting are better then any of this drafts QBs imho. Take the OT at 6… Worst case we get Jimmy G who is a more than competent stop gap for a year or two, could be our Alex Smith till we find our long term answer. Jimmy G can probably take this team to the playoffs in a weak NFC. -
The point is you likely won't have to trade any assets for either of them as both the 49ers and Browns have no leverage in trade talks. The NFC is wide open compared to the AFC. Jimmy G could easily lead this Panthers team to the playoffs...
-
I think both Jimmy and Baker are talented players. Are they upper echelon Mahomes level, obviously not. But you can certainly win with them as both those teams have proved with recent playoff runs. Jimmy made some really big time throws in the final drives of a few games last year, that dude is ice. He does have limitations though. Baker has arm talent that can’t be questioned. The argument is always Jimmy sucks and Shanahans offense carries him, yet there record when he’s hurt compared to when he plays is staggering. So why couldn’t Kyle get even mediocre results with other “backup level” QBs. That’s because Jimmy G is a starting QB in this league (he probably ranks between 15-20), Sam Darnold is barely a backup level player..he’s a third string QB
-
Just to quickly get this out of the way because I haven’t seen it posted here yet, but there’s a reason nobodies traded for these two guys yet. It it doesn’t have anything to do with playing ability so much as it does leverage. (and maybe Bakers attitude, maybe) The Browns are paying Baker about 18.5mill for this season. Same as we are stuck paying Darnold. If the Browns cut Baker, they still owe him the 18.5mill. The only way he’s completely off the books is if he’s traded. Every team whose interested knows this, and the Browns have no leverage because he needs to go and they want/kinda need the cap space. The reports of teams asking the Browns for a draft pick to take Mayfield are likely very accurate and will likely happen. They are gonna have to Osweiler him.. With Jimmy it’s different. The Niners are up against the cap, I believe they have 3mill left. If they cut Jimmy they save 25mill and take like a 2 mill hit. Same if they trade him. But everyone and their mother knows the Niners need the cap space and are eventually going to have to cut him. It’s literally inevitable. Nobody is trading anything for a guy coming off shoulder surgery with 1 year left on his deal. So if the Panthers want Jimmy and I suspect they do, they are playing it perfectly. Be patient, Niners will eventually cut him, free the cap room and you can sign him as a one year stop gap for likely a lot less than $25mill he would have gotten via a trade. It looks like it’s down to Jimmy G or Cam starting for the Panthers next year, for better or for worse. Doesn’t mean they won’t draft a QB at 6, but unless they wow in camp they likely will red shirt. Pickett obv has a better shot to start then Willis.
-
Cam in a Taysom Hill roll, coming in on short yardage and redzone opportunities is still deadly. Expecting Cam to start and play an every down roll is just asinine at this point. As long as he understands his roll as the backup and short yardage back on the offense, and the money works there is no downside to this whatsoever. Cam would be an excellent mentor to any young QB, and he just elevates the team and the teams chemistry. If they expect him to start all year and act as a bridge QB kiss this season goodbye because he's not that guy anymore.

This kid isn’t some scrub from all accounts, Rappport reported that a few teams have checked in on him with the Giants, and Joe Judge gave him very high praise saying he deserves to be one of the 32 kickers in the game. Judge wouldn’t go out on a limb like that for some scrub..I live in NJ I see plenty of Giants chatter..Give the kid a chance you may be surprised and shocked at how cheap we got him.
-
We’ll if you know how the NFL works everyone was aware the Giants wouldn’t roster two kickers, so most interested teams were waiting for him to be cut. The rest hold draft picks like gold..be happy we have aggressive GM who sought to acquire him for a conditional 7th. Kickers don’t exactly get traded for high picks, a 7th is par for the course.
-
This kid is actually good. Has a strong leg..I watched the Giants game specifically to see him last week and I was impressed. Great trade by Fitterer. We weren’t the only team in on him he was coveted..
