  1. Just like I said he would be signed long term. Hundreds of posts debating a 2nd and third tagging for nothing. Now what do we bitch about? He isn't playing left tackle so he is way overpaid? Or we can bitch about the terms or the guaranteed money? Personally I am going to enjoy we locked him up. After all it isn't my money, why should I care. NO has proven the cap can be manipulated very easily.
  2. Exactly. The total number is irrelevant. The guaranteed amount appears fairly good at 43 million. The signing bonus will be a large piece of that and maybe the first 2 years salary. By the time it gets expensive the guaranteed money will be accounted for outside of the remaining proration on the signing bonus so we can keep him or cut him at that point.
  3. If Darnold plays well and we lose, it won't hurt his confidence at all. But if he plays poorly then win or lose it could have a negative impact on his confidence.
  4. He was tagged twice but bolted in free agency to the Vikings where he got a big 3 year deal.
  5. I get it. You try to take the high road and keep things civil but it is tough when others constantly take low blows and it is tolerated on this board with no repercussions. I guess I have always heard we teach folks how to treat us.
  6. Most of the time making comments like that tells you more about the person making the comments than it does about who they are made about.
  7. Other than Walter Jones I can't remember a player actually playing 3 times on a franchise tag. Multiple folks have been tagged twice but the large majority were signed long term before the second tag took effect. It is used as leverage to get a long term deal. Teams and players don't expect to actually play multiple times with the tag. Usually because the cost gets prohibitive. The cost next year will be 120% of the average of the top five guys salaries at offensive tackle or 120% of his prior salary whichever is larger. So the amount may be greater than simply taking 120% of his salary this year or adding 144% to what he is projected to make next year if other guys get big contracts when the cap goes way up next year.
  8. Again waiting to see what happens tomorrow before speculating on what might or might not happen next year. Chances of him not signing appear fairly high but it seems the reluctance is on Moton not the Cats. Still hopeful something long term can be worked out.
  9. And since a player holding out wouldn't have signed their franchise tag agreement they don't have to pay anything back and wouldn't be under contract.
  10. Only if you apply the exclusive tag and again that has only happened a few times in league history and isn't going to happen here so not worth the arguing until he at least plays one year on the tag. Plus Le'Veon Bell sat out recently so 0% is an opinion and not fact at all.
  11. There are 2 types of tags, exclusive and nonexclusive tags so no it isn't automatic that no one else can get involved. Secondly Bell sat out when he was franchised twice recently so it isn't 0% that Moton would do the same. Finally he is going to be signed longterm so this is not worth going back and forth.
  12. As you say most times guys coming to the NFL as rookie college coaches aren't going to talented clubs and if they are starting a rookie likely picking higher in the draft. Not a formula for quick success. Honestly I am not a Meyers fan at all . Then again I think Lawrence benefitted greatly from superior talent around him. I wonder how he will do when the other side is more talented than his.
  13. How many times does any team use the franchise tag multiple times on a player? I think it has been used 13 times and usually to try and get a long term deal done. Otherwise you end up with a Le' Veon Bell or Clowney situation. Moton is still young and worth a long term deal at this point. If we don't sign him long-term I doubt we will. Then again with a new GM it is hard to rule anything out.
  14. Tagging a player doesn't make then happy. Tagging them twice is a good formula for them to sit out a year and them go to the highest bidder.
  15. You have to decide who are your core guys who are worth a bigger part of your cap and who are roster guys who are paid less or are on rookie deals or prove it contracts. Plus you have to decide what it would cost to replace him and is that guy already on the roster. Ofcourse we can pay Moton this year. A long term deal could cost less than his current tag number if his salary is small because the signing bonus serves as his salary in year 1. And as long as the guaranteed money is controlled we should be fine. Locking up one tackle position be it right or left is surely worth the money. With the cap set to jump next year it should be no problem to pay Moton and still have plenty if we just control the dead cap money from bad deals.
  16. For a sleeper it needs to be a guy not expected to be that great. I would think that someone like Cameron Irving or Morgan Fox would suffice
  17. You want a player to be fired up to.play and give his all. I can't think of a better way to make a player disgruntled then to tag them.multiple times. And if you don't think how a player feels matters to how they play then no.need to discuss it further.
  18. There isn't much difference these days. Williams got 23 and Ramcyzk got almost 20 a year average so Moton will surely get paid, but the devil is in the details which will fall in place next week. If not he will play elsewhere and we will keep fielding crappy lines over a few million a year here and there.
  19. It is the situation in Jacksonville and urban Meyer. I simply said there was no way that Meyers was going to the playoffs this year with Lawtence as QB. You guys are the ones trying to shoot holes in it and find exceptions. There aren't any. So if Urban goes to the playoffs with a rookie QB it will be a first time a rookie NFL coach in his first year as a head coach did it. Nitpick or not that is why Lawrence isn't going to the playoffs this year at least.
  20. Alex Smith was the starter in 2011 and 2012. Kaepernick only played a few snaps until week 12 and the team was 8-2-1 at that point. So you can't give Kaepernick as much credit at Smith for 2012. The same with the Eagles. Michael Vick was the starter for the first 6 games until injury and Foles took over. So yeah Foles gets credit for sure but he wasn't the starter all year. My point was no rookie coach has gone to the playoffs in their first 2 years except Harbaugh and Kelly. And none of those coaches went to the playoffs with a rookie which is my point about Lawrence taking Jacksonville there under Meyers. For those who say that Lawrence won't be a rookie his second year. Kelly failed to make the playoffs after that year so was it a fluke? Foles was a big part of getting there his second year but what happened the following year? Would Lawrence be better able to take his team to the playoffs if he could sit and learn instead of being thrust into immediate duty? Both Foles and Kaepernick had that opportunity to do that. I wonder if the fact no rookie coach in their first 2 years went to the playoffs with a rookie quarterback played into why Rhule went with Darnold over Fields. He wants to win now not down the road.
  21. Gotta weigh in here. Cam took pretty poor weapons and turned it into the highest scoring offense in 2015 often by himself. He actually had better weapons after that but he couldn't make all the throws anymore. It is plain to see his throwing motion in 2015 versus 2017 changed. He didn't have the same consistency and the ball came out flatter and he lost his deep ball. He can still generate a decent offense because he is such a talent and his running is unparalleled. But Cam was done here and it was time to move on. I hope he can have a good year but I worry the Patriots are just going to run him to death again and dump.him if he gets hurt. He ran more times last year than any year that Shula was OC and the second highest run total in his career. If he can't throw to open up the run it won't be long before Mac gets a shot.
  22. The reality is that we are going to sign him and pay him well or lose him to someone who does. Indications are we wil make every effort to sign him. So as much as you want to devalue him, the Panthers appear not to. So I am not sure what you get out of your ongoing battle to show you are right. You are Don Quixote swinging against the windmills. A noble effort but useless given it doesn't matter and isn't what the Panthers are going to do. Don't be that poster that keeps beating a dead horse. Or the guy who says he is a fan but hopes things don't work out so he can be right in an internet fight. Get on board and hope for the best. You can have plenty of time in the Fall to tell us how right you are when you actually have something to back you up besides your lone wolf opinion that no one agrees with especially the Panthers.
  23. I am sure he plays where they tell him to.play. I think Moton can play left tackle given his athleticism and talent. Gross made the transition well and as much as I love him, I don't think he was as athletic as Moton is. Time will tell though.
  24. Rankings are subjective and likely influenced by the dominant old idea that left tackles are more valuable and therefore automatically better if they played at the same level as a right tackle since the left side is harder and takes more skill. Can I get an Amen. And executives aren't going to admit that isn't true since that would mean they have to pay the right tackle as much as the left tackle. It behooves them to pay less as well. But the reality is that there are a number of great pass rushers who rush from the right side and that has been clearly shown. Plus many pass rushers will change sides based on who they think they best match up against or even position on the field. So by continuing this outdated thinking you just show you are not up to speed on the realities of the league. But you are not alone. A lot of folks think the same way. I hope Moton does play left tackle and at a high level. That will not only show he was worth every penny but that it isn't that hard to shift from the right to the left. Gross did it with no problem and he didn't have the athleticism that Moton does. Once again proving that great tackles are great no.matter where they line up which is my contention
  25. I got to admit there were several parts that were pretty funny. In a pitiful sort of way.
