  1. I don't think you have to wait that long if he plays well. He isn't a rookie and if Pittsburgh plays like they normally do they won't be totally vanilla and will be sending blitzes and playing more like a regular season game. The first few regular season games are against teams that may not be very good. So that might not be the best test depending on how NO plays.
  2. Can't wait to see how Darnold does against our preseason defensive opponents who were all in the top 10 last year with two of them in the top 3. That will be a huge test. If he struggles some that is expected but if he plays well, it could signal a big year ahead for Sam.
  3. With all of the players we got in the draft coupled with who we picked up in the offseason should give us enough depth to make it through.
  4. With an extra game to play with, it helps the odds. We could get to 8 wins and still have a losing record with 9 losses. If we had split our 1 score losses last year we would have won 8 games. With a better D and O I think they help us win some of those games in the fourth quarter we lost last year.
  5. No one cares about a long snapper until he screws up. With all the extra picks we got this year I am amazed about all the angst because we used it on a long snapper who never muffed a snap.in his college career. I think he makes the roster. If he doesn't start right away then that is simply due to how good Jansen is not a knock on Fletcher. He is the future.
  6. From what I have read Fletcher was the best LS in college and we wanted to make sure he wouldn't choose another team if he went undrafted so we used a 6th rounder on him. A guy who never had a bad snap in his college college starting all four years. For Alabama who was dominant last year. Versus a guard who was a high round prospect based on his talent who dropped due to injury concerns. We picked for need assuming that Jansen isnt the future and Fletcher makes the team. I would be unhappy if we try to stash him on the practice squad and he gets stolen like with Butker a while back. Then it becomes a wasted pick.
  7. Christensen hopefully doesn't play this year and sits while he learns the game and improves his technique. Starting rookies is always a big risk especially early. By the end of this year he can get reps and be ready next year. Let's see how he does in preseason before deciding what happens this year.
  8. Has nothimgto do with privlege. Racism by definition is about race. Tell me again how ragging an opposing fan in fun about their jersey is similar to hurling racial epithets. If you ate wearing a Patriot jersey or a Saints jersey I am not going to like you no matter what the color of the skin. I think you have prejudice and racism confused. You can be prejudiced about thousand of things like a fabric or an idea and not racist. Everyone is prejudiced about something. Not everyone is racist.
  9. Has nothing to do with the media. More about comparing two things that are only tangentially connected.
  10. Don't see the comparison at all. One is a race or nationality you are born into. Being a fan of a football team is a choice people make and can unmade. You don't make fun of someone about who they are but having some fun about a fan showing up at a Panther camp with an opposing jersey doesn't meet the definition of racist or a bigot. No one excluded the woman or was nasty. There are plenty of easy examples of racism to choose from but your post is a fail from beginning to end. Just sayin....
  11. That is stupid. Any coach worth their salt teaches that you don't knock the crap out of your own teammates. You save it for the opponent on game day. You can be physical without being reckless and that hit was reckless and over the top. Somehow equating this to politics and being weak just tells me how little you know about coaching football. Football is a violent sport but it is controlled violence with a purpose. The kid was a sacrificial lamb to make a point and teach a lesson that being stupid and out of control results in consequences. Rhule just showed what that could be.
  12. Horn doesn't have to change that much to be legal. Instead of grabbing and holding you do what Sherman often did which is tug and give little pulls which slows the receiver down but not change his direction or severely impede his movement. You don't wrap your arm all around his waist with your off hand when you go for the deflection, you put your arm on him but not so obviously. Hopefully one of the vets can help him be aggressive but less noticeable to the officials.
  13. I do too if he is the best guy we have at that position but we have all seen workout warriors who struggled to play as well as they train. Hopefully he is the real deal and immediately can contribute wherever he is needed. We have struggled to keep our lines healthy for some reason.
  14. Let's see what happens in the preseason games. All of those defenses were top 10 with 2 being top 3 last year. So let's see how the offense operates from starters down to backups and wanna bes. We wil have plenty of good looks and see both man and zone with lots of blitzing. We will see who the physical guys are who can hold their own and get separation.
  15. If you want to blame anyone for Teddy blame Brady. If I remember discussions from when Bridgewater was signed it was because Brady was lobbying for him after working with him for 2 years in New Orleans.
  16. You are right. Richardson helped pay for upgrades to the facilities which benefitted Wofford and also made it acceptable for training camp. So the facilities, location and few distractions made it ideal. Even the heat hardens you for September games which should be hotter on the field now that we replaced the grass with artificial turf.
  17. The whole we have to save space and not pick who we want is belied by NO who spends every year and fits everything under the cap. And because these contracts are transparent it isn't like everyone else couldn't do the same. Truth is we can bring in who we want and still have plenty for next year. I love how everyone acts like it was their money instead of Tepper who is a billionaire.
  18. It takes no insight to predict failure given he hasn't been successful while playing for the Jets. It takes a lot more insight and effort to evaluate the differences in his situation and predict potential or qualified success. If you are wrong and the team is doing well you can always point out anything that Darnold does wrong. If he sucks then you can post ad nauseum about how right you are and how you could read the tea leaves. So you can get off your high horse and stop acting as if you know something no one else does. You are just taking the safe easy position which takes no effort or insight at all.
  19. I thought that a big reason was Bridgewater didn't get better as the season unfolded. He failed to thrown it downfield even when it was wide open or it was the fourth quarter and we were behind. He didn't show urgency or any ability to rally the team. I imagine the negative press wasn't as big a deal as his big guaranteed salary.
  20. The question for everyone has been why did Darnold suck, when the only question to answer is what will it take for Darnold to have a great year this season. If you agree that Darnold had the physical tools to be great and that he wants to be coached and is doing everything he has been told to do, then what will derail him? Are poor decisions due to limited intelligence, impulsive behavior or PTSD responses? Or are they do to poor coaching and poor scheme? Is he the problem or a symptom of a larger problem. I hope the coaches are as good as advertised and will devise a scheme which showcases Darnold's talent. I hope Darnold plays within the scheme and recognizes that he isn't the best athlete on the field so get the ball to those that are. And I hope that we give him the whole 2 years to get this scheme down pat based on good but not great play this year. He has all the things he needs for success now we we allow it to unfold. I am going to be on board the Darnold train as long as it rolls.
  21. How many elite players do you expect on one of the youngest teams in the league???
  22. The problem with sitting CMC is that there isn't a better player who can break it for 6 on virtually any play. He is our most explosive player who is useful even as a decoy. And he hates to sit out. He wants the ball on every play. I can agree he needs more breaks but I wouldn't blame the head coach alone for overusing him. Usually the OC controls how many reps and how many potential touches players get based on the plays we run.
  23. Another failed analysis on your part as usual. As I and many others said he was going to be signed long term and tagging a player multiple times wasn't even a thought. And you are wrong that Moton didn't get what he wanted. He was very willing to play under the tag and take his chances next year so the Psnthers wisely used that and made the contract an extension instead of replacing the franchise tag. Moton got his 13 million plus guaranteed this year and another 43 million for the contract for a total of almost 57 million fully guaranteed which is more for example than Ramszyck got which is only 43 million fully guaranteed. Some of the 60 million of his reported guaranteed money is only guaranteed for injury or if he is still playing. The Panthers got a 5 year deal and fronted much of the guaranteed money so the dead cap in the last 2 years is manageable. His contract makes him the 8th highest paid tackle in the league by average salary. He was ranked the 9th best tackle in football in 2020 so it was a fair contract. PFF thought it might be somewhat of an overpay. But it appears a win - win for both sides. No one caved and no one was threatening multiple tags but you. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-carolina-panthers-taylor-moton-franchise-tag-4-year-72m-deal-contract-extension It is okay to admit you were wrong and let it go instead of going back and forth over a moot point now that he is signed longterm. But since you can't stop or admit you were wrong let me help. I won't be responding because now you are acting like a troll and we all know to not feed the trolls.
  24. You appear to be correct. The contract is an extension rather than replacing the franchise tag. Maybe it is me but I don't remember seeing a contract structured like this. It ends up being a 5 year deal if you include his franchise tag. The guaranteed amount is actually higher though since his franchise tag was also guaranteed when he signed his tender. So it is closer to 57 million for 5 years guaranteed. Right??
  25. The long term contract replaces the franchise tag contract so he will likely count less than 13 million unless they decide to frontload the contract by giving him a good signing bonus plus a good salary for 2021. Usually the signing bonus is in lieu of a big salary year 1 which reduces the cap number since ithe signing bonus gets prorated. The whole reason to sign him longterm is to lower the cap of a franchised player and lock him up for years.
