5 plays analyzed from WFT game worth the watch
panthers55 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
The defense is going to have to figure out how to get pressure while still maintaining their run integrity. Play a 5-2-4 and bring Chinn closer to the box for starters. The offense is still a work in progress. Hard to decide what Cam cant or can do until we at least install the whole offense. -

How many 3 and outs did we have on offense?? Seemed like at least 3 or 4 minimum. -
Exactly and both Brown and Jones are 320. The problem is that we always rush 3 or 4 and our ends are light if we use Reddick and Burns. We also try so hard to jump the gaps to rush the passer it is easy for teams to let defenders go upfield and take themselves out of the play. Dallas used to combat our rushing game by using 3 interior linemen and 2 ends so the offense couldn't double any one defender with another O linemen and they played two technique on obvious rushing situations. With 5 on 5 it is a lot easier to fill gaps and not get blown off the ball. You can still substitute other guys on passing downs but it really closes down the run lanes. And if I can figure it out a guy like Snow with all his experience should surely be able to do the same.

Rhule has exactly what it takes in a head coach which is have a message and vision, be a good people person and manage the various pieces. Managing the clock or other game day issues are a very small piece of what a HC does. What he is lacking are coordinators who can game plan and adjust to constant opponent chess moves. Our players focus on themselves which sounds great if what that means is going out and taking away the strengths of the opponent. If we keep getting gashed in the run then why dont we play five guys in the dirt closing down running lanes and applying pressure. Why didnt gilmore play more when he showed what he can do and why did we leave Jackson on an island even after he struggled? Head coaches arent always X and Os kind of guys but their coordinators should be. Both Brady and Snow are smart guys but dont have much NFL experience. They are still learning by trial and error. But how many times can you say we didn't practice that or they didn't do that before on tape so we were surprised. If everyone else is better prepared than what does that say about us. -
Look at that first drive. Cam was great. As long as he keeps this up, of course he will be the starter.
-
No one is saying PJ should start over Cam or be the long term starter. Lets see how they each play. Cam wil start and if he does great then we will only see PJ if Cam doesnt have enough down to keep things moving. But if Csm struggles then why wouldn't we see PJ who poses different skills and runs the short passing game pretty well. There are plays in there for both. Lets see who does what. By using them both we make defenses account for 2 different coverages, man for PJ and more zone for Cam because of his running ability. Platooning could be great for Cam. You actually do gain a lot watching someone else run the offense and then get your chance the next series. Cam is the vet leader and brings some energy that PJ cant. He will get all the chances to play and if he plays well then he will stay in. But no he shouldnt keep getting reps if he is struggling and playing poorly. Unless PJ plays worse when he comes in. You practice during the week and you.perform on Sunday. If you cant perform then someone else gets a crack. That has been true at every position but QB. Maybe that needs to change. What are people afraid of? PJ will do well? He will do bad and then sit the bench?? Lets see who brings the juice. Cam will be first up.
-
It depends on how they play. PJ is a better west coast style passer and Cam is much better in an rpo. Why not scheme up plays for both and see what works best. The competition should bring out the best in both of them. If one is struggling bring in the other. Whoever is bringing the juice should play.

Never know with Rhule. Remember how he talked Cam up right before we didnt resign him. But as others have said since Darnold will likely be here next year given he is guaranteed 18 million, why would he say anything negative. If Cam struggles or gets hurt this year it isnt out of the realm of possibility Darnold has to come in and play this year. Not my desire for sure but it is way too early to decide how things will play out. Who thought Cam would be here a few weeks ago??

You said you have no idea what they ran so please stop. And show some articles proving your point. Otherwise you are failing in the breeze. I am done. After working all day wasting time with you aint it.

Cam: the answer to our offensive woes
panthers55 replied to Peon Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
This week will be a real litmus test. Rivera knows Cam better than anyone and what he can or cant do. He will devise a defensive scheme to account for Cam. Lets see how Cam mixes it up and uses our better personnel to score. If he dismantles Washington on Sunday he will make believers out of his skeptics. -
You have to be kidding me. We used to have actual football conversations where we talked scheme and coverages and anyone who knows anything about the Erhart Perkins system thinks automatically about New England given Charlie Weitz brought it there and is the example often cited as an NFL team who has been very successful for the past 20 years. You obviously confuse offense and defense talking about changing to fit the personnel. NE is known to move players around and go with a 4-3 or 3-4 depending on personnel on defense. The offense has always been the same with Brady and is the primary reason that Mac is there now. It requires a decent run game but a very good passing attack with accurate on time passing. They adapted things to let Cam run more but it was the same system. Hopefully Cam learned some things from Belichick that he can apply here.
-
First of all Cam ran more for NE last year than he did in 2015 and missed a game for Covid not injury. In fact it was his second highest total in his career. Second of course you scheme for the quarterback as well as the team. If Cam has trouble with timing on 3 step drops you can start him in the shotgun to avoid the issue. Or limit that route selection in favor of what he does well. If Cam throws a flat ball you may limit how many throws he makes on button hooks over the middle when it can be tipped more easily. Maybe you focus on seam routes which he throws great or out routes but not 20 yarders given that gives the defense more time to defend the pass. You dont change the offense but you change the play selection and play calling based on what your guy can do. Brady said as much himself. He works with whoever the starter is to find out what plays they are most comfortable with and you build your gameplan around that.
-
So you dont know what they ran but it wasnt Erhart Perkins. Wow do you understand how stupid that sounds. Clearly you dont understand much about schemes as seem to be confusing play calling and scheme which are not the same. Why not stick to what you know.
-
He misses from 40 to 50 most often. Plus some extra points which is why we moved on from him.
-
Actually blitzing Cam is what most teams do and he struggles against pressure.
-
I know he has done okay. Our guy has made 13 straight. Including a 57 yarder. Gonzales is having his best year ever.
-
Yeah that is why I mentioned our field goal kicker. Slye will be good for a miss or two.
-
While the NFL is a copycat league and all playbooks have some kind of RPO for example they are constructed or schemed usually under a larger scheme with basic core concepts. Like WCO used short timing passes thrown to a spot often as the receiver is making a cut and uses yac to gain yards. Verbiage is an issue but with wristbands it isnt that tough although we wont have Greg Olsen to help Cam get it right.
-
Then again if you can't move him and are paying 18 million already it makes little sense to cut him unless you dont think he deserves an inactive roster spot.
-
Honestly he looked the same or maybe we are tryin trying to limit contact. We didnt run him much between the tackles at all. Maybe it was me but I thought he might be a little slower and didnt have the extra accelerator gear. Then again it has been a while since he played.
-
Who knows with this staff what will happen. On one hand we keep PJ to develop but showed Bridgewater a quick exit. Remember those were Rhule's words not mine. Then again whether he talks guys up or not it doesnt seem to be related to whether they stay or not.
-
Yes they still run a modified EP system put in by Charlie Weiss and continued by Josh McDaniel. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dawgsbynature.com/platform/amp/2020/2/24/21140555/two-concepts-in-one-the-erhardt-perkins-playcalling-language What do you think they run??
-
One thing that I havent seen mentioned is how much we try and fit Cam to the system versus fit the system to what Cam does best. We are running mostly West Coast concepts with quick timing passes and throwing receivers open on crossing routes. Use your running backs like receivers. Last year Cam played for New England and their Erhart Perkins offense which stressed more horizontal passing while with Carolina we ran a lot of a Coryell play action passing and lots of running for a number of years. So what system best fits Cam and how do you adapt our offense to what Cam does best. And will it be hard for Cam to pick things up right away?
-
I am in the group that thinks we can sign all three. Why not? We will have the cap space next year because year 1 contracts are all cap friendly. It is later years that are the issue. I dont worry about the numbers like some folks do. Why waste my time in conjecture when we have guys who do little else but eat think and breath the salary cap.
