Sure they do. How about Green Bay with Love or San Francisco with Lance. What about Mahomes in KC. I could go on but this is enough. Fourth string or second string it often helps a qb to sit. Corral needs to sit and absorb those mental reps otherwise he is lost as you can see. He came from a simple college offense to a complex NFL offense Baker said took a lot to master and this is his fourth system.

That isn't true if you look at the first depth chart. Maybe based on film things will change after the New England practices. Things are starting to get clearer. No need for panic.
-
That because you already know the answer before you ask questions. You don't like Rhule and nothing will change that at this point.
-
Because he made the decisions in the past where now he has smarter guys making the decisions for him.
-
This year has nothing to do with the last 2. We have real coaches now.
-
Because the line isn't set yet and several starters missed the game for various reasons. Maybe letting Baker work with both first and second readers helped him worked to his benefit. Didn't Darnold have the same guys?
-
Because last year only 16 qbs didn't miss time with injury. Both Mayfield and Darnold got hurt at some point. So if you don't want to put all your eggs in one basket you develop both of them figuring you will need both to win games this year. If it was all about reps and injury wasn't a concern you would have played Baker more than one series. Obviously it isn't just a competition but belief we need 2 guys capable of starting. You can disagree with that notion but he has a plan
-
It isn't hard to figure out. It means that his interest is on winning games now so the starters get all the reps. Corrals reps aren't important right now. It isn't bad coaching. It is teaching a new offense to a bunch of guys allocating reps based on priority. When your job is on the line you don't worry about next year you focus on the present. Once Baker got here the importance of Corral playing right away went way down which was a good thing. I expect if Baker has a good year he will be resigned to a big contract. There will be plenty of time to develop Corral.

The indicator of a good offensive scheme and good coaching for me is whether all the qbs have some success. That means the scheme is quarterback friendly and the qbs understand the scheme enough to execute it. As Baker alluded earlier in a post, this scheme let's the qb make choices at the line to take advantage of the defensive scheme. That is music to my ears. Adjustments at the line to get favorable matchups. And apparently this is new to Baker. What if this will be the best scheme he has ever played in.... We can only hope.

Corral did play with scrubs but got rattled by scrubs as well. How he compared to Howell is irrelevant. It was good for him to get his first taste of live action. There is no pressure on him to do anything. And his 3rd round trade up will be what saves him otherwise PJ is much better at this point. But that doesn't matter he will get more work next week where he might get a full half. And he will make the roster. But the folks touting him as the best guy we have now see the foolishness of their proclamations. He may be one day but not this year.

Vanilla or not there were some takeaways for me. Thought we mixed up plays pretty well. We didn't look totally predictable. I thought getting in and out of the huddle was generally good. The scheme allows QBs to audible and move folks around. We had some good misdirection plays that had guys wide open. Everyone QB moved the ball which suggests good scheme success versus individual QB talent.

So far the special teams seems to be a strength

Gonzales is doing great and our punt and kickoff coverage looks good. How many times did the returner make it back to the 25? -
You aren't paying attention. You don't gameplan in the first preseason game so you go vanilla. We seem to be better against the run although Roy was getting moved on double teams. Playing more read and react because our secondary is going to be good. Frankly I like it better than the sellout at all costs to get pressure.
-
I know it is the first preseason game but it looks to me that tacking is good and guys are in their lanes and moving toward the ball.
-
I attend home games and some away ones as well. I don't get drunk and don't get in fights. Sure some idiots do and others have a big mouth. But if you are respectful to others they usually are in return. There are exceptions but most times some other jerk will take them on leaving me in the clear.
-
I know it will be vanilla and no gameplanning but we will see our basic schemes on offense and defense. I am interested to see what McAdoo does this year. He has been a west coast guy but Rhule likes to.pound the rock. And on defense how does the secondary hold up and how good are our linebackers really. Gameplanning or not, talent is clear and being around the ball is instinctive.
-
It wasn't fan fiction but I said rumor because saying I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who talked to him about it sounds like REO speedwagon. But remember he signed his huge contract in April of 2020 three months after Rhule was hired. So he had no knowledge of how it was going to go. He has always been a workhorse but it isn't just how much he plays but the offensive line blocking and scheme determining how much of a beating he takes or how much time he gets between carries. Injuries are tough for everyone but who would want to run behind the line and offense we put out on the field the last 2 years.
-
I had read a rumor that CMC was unhappy about how he was being used and blamed that for his injuries. Don't know if it is true but the dialing back of his workouts and hopefully smarter use of him in the slot with lots of dumpoffs where he doesn't have to run up the middle will preserve him this year.

How much playing time will Matt Corral get on Saturday?
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Actually if you pay attention it is easy to see what is happening and hence why I said they would both play well before it was announced. And if you agree that there has been a shift in power and we have football people making the decisions now you can see why this year won't resemble last year. Thank goodness. Rhule may be the head coach but it is plain to see that he is staying in his lane for the most part and letting the experienced guys do their thing. It is actually smart for him to do that given if he defers to them he at least has someone to blame if it goes south. Truth is that when you have total control and micromanage you better be right and he clearly hasn't been. -

Then why not just say I was wrong. You don't have to justify or make excuses. And I wouldn't be taking you to task if you hadn't gone back and forth for days arguing when it was obvious they both were going to play and that last year has nothing to do with this year. The decision is likely not his either but McAdoos. -

https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2022/08/10/panthers-baker-mayfield-sam-darnold-commanders-preseason/ Typical huddle response. I didn't think you would admit it but you arent alone. -

So Rhule just said that both Darnold and Baker would play. Which is exactly what I told you would happen yet you posted again and again arguing about how last year would be indicative of what we do this year. Obviously that was wrong. So my question is since you went back and forth about your theory which is obviously wrong, how about now admitting you were wrong and I was right. Or will you keep piling on more BS to justify your position. That would be typical aroind here where posters make a dozen posts arguing their point and when they are proven wrong there is no retraction or admission they were wrong. -
Matt Corral fans, tomorrow should be a good day
panthers55 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope that Corral gets some work scrimmaging and simulating live action. He has never been under center or called protections in the NFL. What I have read suggests he did largely drills and wasnt doing many of the simulated drives and 2 minute scenarios for example. Otherwise I would hate to put him out there unless we run shotgun and simplify the playbook to help cut down on the reads and make it easy for him to execute. -

Dont worry. Didn't Rhule say that Darnold wouldn't play last preseason? And didn't he just say that neither of them will play the second game? So why wouldn't he say anything similar if neither of them were playing in the first game. The answer is he would. Especially after all the talk about competition and not naming a starter. Everyone would have a field day if neither played. So it only makes sense they both will play a series or two. What happened last year has no bearing on this year or at least I certainly hope so. How much did he say CMC would play? Yeah none. So you will get your wish. They will both play as will the offensive line. And so will PJ and Corral. You heard it here first.
