PFF grades from Panthers v Falcons (week10)
panthers55 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He is our full time starter. Now how well he is doing his job is another issue......... -
How bad does PJ need to play to be removed as starter?
panthers55 replied to AlphabetsEnd's topic in Carolina Panthers
When will he be replaced? If we suck and he throws a bunch of picks and we lose. As long as we are winning it doesn't matter how he plays -
That motion sweep pass to Shenault
panthers55 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pj is doing what he is asked to do. Mahomes has a much better scheme to work with to begin with. Wasn't it Mahomes who said PJs pass was the best one he has seen this year. And since it was 65 yards I think that would suggest he can throw a good deep ball. But how many do we actually throw. PJ can be a good QB with a good system. But he isn't given the opportunities. Thank you for making my post look great compared to your uninformed stupid post. -
You're missing the point completely. If you have a qb who plays in a WCO with 70% of his passes being essentially less than 5 yards you get a higher completion percentage than someone playing in a more downfield Coryell system with the majority of throws more than 15 yards. So who is playing better using completion percentage as your measure? What about measuring YPC versus YPA - the difference totally changes the answer. You are the one morphing the "better" concept with your extreme comparisons of quarterbacks. I said you can't easily compare players at the same position on a stat like sacks unless they played in a similar scheme with similar opportunities and responsibilities. So Burns and Bosa play in different systems with different schemes and respinsibilities. So determing who is playing better depends on what you measure. That is a far cry from whatever you are trying to morph this into.

That motion sweep pass to Shenault

One factor. Another may be that if you pressure Mahomes he runs so you try to keep him in the pockets and make him throw underneath, etc. -
Not all DEs function similarly. Not just in a 3-4 versus a 4-3 but responsibilities. For example if your primary job is rushing the passer with your hand in the dirt and you come from the same spot you get different results from someone who plays standing up, plays inside or out and has different responsibilities in different sets. Not only rushing the QB but playing in the secondary for example. Teams that blitz linebackers get more sacks than a team that rarely blitzes so should sacks be considered in isolation or in context to your duties. So in general even two guys who play the same position may have different responsibilities. Add other factors such as how much help do you get from teammates so you aren't the focus of the offense but one piece of the puzzle versus the only decent player on the team that teams can game plan for or against. Comparing players in a 1 gap penetrating scheme versus those in a 2 gap read and respond scheme may not be comparable for sacks for example. So no all players at a position are not used the same and therefore aren't universally comparable.

That motion sweep pass to Shenault

I agree that Walker is very inconsistent. One pass he threads between 2 defenders and other times you want to know who in the heck was he throwing to. Wilks tends to be conservative and wants to limit mistakes most of all. So he is limiting what PJ is allowed to do to keep the mistakes down. -

Kansas City has won a ton of games on dumpoffs , screens and swing passes. No one thinks Mahomes is being held back. Sometimes simple is great. -
Health is a big factor and staying on the field makes a big difference. CMC has been downgraded by many folks due to injury concerns even though a few years ago he was recognized as the best running back in the league. Bosa is a different DE than Burns and aren't really directly comparable other than general stats.
-
Injuries count as far as production. If you can't stay on the field you don't get credit for only when you played. If Burns stays healthy and Bosa doesn't then Burns is better because he can play every game. Sacks aren't the only way to.measure production. Being out there every game is a big part of things as well.

You don't trade a player unless you have someone to replace him. We don't have two DEs who can pass rush consistently so why get rid of the only player who can get consistent pressure. I don't care what they offer you. We are playing to win and Burns is a pivotal piece who has shown he can stay healthy. If the Rams were willing to offer what they did they must think he is worth it. Apparently the only folks who think he is overrated are fans on this board. Just like we saw with all these can't miss QBs this next draft who are underperforming,, a bird in the hand who is a probowler is worth a lot more than two future picks in the bush years from now. It isn't Fitterer saving his ass it is Fitterer still trying to win in 2022. Seems the players and management still are fighting to win. Just like they should.

Is Burns really worth backing up a Brinks truck?
panthers55 replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
We will likely try and resign him because we can use the cap relief in 2023 but not at a king's ransom. And since he is already signed for 2023 he doesn't have all the leverage. We don't have to do anything and his 16 million contract for 2023 isn't that outrageous. -

Franchise tag says he doesn't have all the leverage since we don't have to apply until 2024. -
Good job trying to help someone on the huddle to go to a game. Ignore any rude or smart-ass comments. Some folks never got beyond middle school humor. But what is really sad is that they think they truly are funny.

Remember when John Elway was middling at best and then won two Super bowls late in his career. He is in the hall of fame based on those Superbowls late in his career. As for max contracts we don't know what we will pay and may not until the end of 2023. So all this max contracts talk is way premature at this point. -

Hall of fame usually means a great player who plays at a high level for a long time. Way too early to crown him anything yet but let's see how he develops over the next decade. -
Brugler: Next year's quarterbacks "not universally loved"
panthers55 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
So the whole we need to tank for a QB is pretty much BS given that suddenly the QBs in this draft arent as great as projected and perhaps Corral is as good as most of the guys we could pick. -

Some of the best players in the hall of fame were DEs close to Burns size. Strahan, Jack Youngblood, Charles Haley, future HOF Von Miller and the list goes on. -

You just picked guys who were bigger. How about a list of several guys Burns size who were or are considered some of the best in history.. How abou Von Miller, michael Strahan, Jack Youngblood, Jason Taylor, Charles Haley ,etc. And again it won't be big money before 2025 so you are wrong or exaggerating your point of view. -

He is under contract in 2023 so we are talking 2024 before we have to pay up. Then contracts are cap friendly in year 1 so really we can keep him for the next two years cheaply. As long as we don't give too much guaranteed money we won't be strapped to him. So we don't have to do anything right now and can see what he does this year and next. With a new line coach maybe there's room for improvement. He has the size speed and strength to be a 3 down DE. He needs to play smarter not harder.
