Why is mediocrity so attractive?
panthers55 replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have waited a long time for a winning season. I want to win now not 5 years down the road. We were promised that with Rhule and we see how that turns out. No Wilkes will give us a winning season next year given how well he did with cast-offs and half a staff. -

You don't have enough to know what he will do. Each place you go is different. What we do know is he can get the most out of his players. That is what a head coach does. Everyone is so enamored for an offensive minded coordinator with no head coach experience, they forget it often takes years to turn things around while they learn on the job. And they won't be the coordinator so all their experience isn't useful unless they call their own plays which is a recipe for disaster. -

This whole idea that we will be mediocre under Wilkes was manufactured by the huddle and now accepted as fact. Wilkes was conservative but was that by design or necessity? Did we run because it was our strength or because our qbs sucked throwing it and our line struggled in pass blocking early? What would he do if he had a great OC and a staff he picked. If he could build a team his way what would it be,? If he turned Rhules misfits into a competent team with half a staff, key injuries defensively, and a revolving door of quarterbacks and still go 6-6, I would let you have 2 years to complete the turnaround. Even a new coach would need a year or two to turn things around and would want a 5 year contract. It isn't mediocre it is the best route to a winning season next year. -
Was thinking that Buffalo should have been pounding the rock and didn't.

I am rooting for the GIANTS tonight and you should too!

Given I was an Eagles fan until I became a diehard Panther fan, I hope they go all the way. They are the best team in the NFC this year. -
Leaked Charlotte FC 2023 Away Kit

I like the black and mint but am fine with blue and white considering our stadium is blue and it matches everything with soccer and the Panthers. Don't like the purple and pink. -
Charlotte FC defender Anton Walkes dies

It has to be devastating to the team who were on a 12 day training camp in South Florida. He was a great defender and was only getting better. Accidents like this which take away the young and strong just remind us that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. -
People seem to be sleeping on Mike Kafka as a candidate
panthers55 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
He sounds like a great coach and a fantastic coordinator. His playing time would be a plus with the players. But with no head coach experience at any level he would need mentoring and possibly years to learn the job. I sure would like to be a fly on the wall in that interview. Right now I lean toward a proven head coach. -
Possible London game next year at Titans

Been there done that with the riot. I was hoping we would go to Germany this time. And if you get a chance to go, it was well worth it -
Wilkes would need to have a great offensive slate lined up as well as be willing to upgrade the defensive coordinator position. I wonder if he was cautious by necessity more than desire. Not going for it on 4th and short could mean you don't have confidence in the offense as much as it suggests lack of cajones. Also remember that we were very depleted in staff on the defensive side so there was not sufficient time to really gameplan and make adjustments from week to week let alone in-game. You can argue that Wilkes fired them so it was his fault but you could argue that getting the results he did was pretty great with a depleted staff and should improve with better coordinators. I could see us go 10-7 with a good OC and QB

We saw what complete control of the roster does when we hired Rhule. Sure Payton is a proven winner but they have made a number of roster blunders and their cap management has finally come to roost. If we had no other choices then mortgage the farm for him. But with lots of candidates available who says he holds all the cards or gets everything he wants.

Go on record now before the hire is made Re: Sean Payton

Many of us tolerated Harper but never cheered him -

Would still be a Panthers Fan but will never be a Payton fan no matter the success he achieved. -
If Wilks had made adjustments in the Bucs game
panthers55 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I remember correctly Brees had a bunch of middling seasons until they got a defense. Peyton Manning won his Super bowls when the defense stepped up as well as the offense. The year he had so many TDs they didn't win it because the defense was poor. You can get to the playoffs with great defense or offense but to win the Superbowl you need all three phases to be playing at a high level. Folks here like the balls to the wall style play instead of more conservative play which can come from offensive or defensive guys. It just so happens most of our defensive coaches like Wilkes are conservative so offensive guys look appealing. But let's be real the OC who interviews needs to have a strong choice for DC and if he is smart a guy with head coaching experience. -
For those who ARE interested in Sean Payton...

Doesn't hurt to listen plus having lots of interviews and pitting one against the other helps raise the price. Doesn't mean he actually wants all those jobs. -

Payton doesn't want to come here. I don't want him here. Win-win. -
Even if a candidate thinks he is only there due to the Rooney rule he should interview. It gives him the experience of interviewing for a head coach job which will benefit him down the road which is the points of the R[ney rule to begin with. Dont focus on how you got there but what you learn to help move you forward.

So which QB do we think will be available at #9?
panthers55 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I went back over the last 10 drafts and the fourth best qb was available at 9. Now some years that fourth qb was picked at 10. I suspect that Richardson for one should be there. -
The fact he hit a game winner against the Saints to win kind of shoots holes in your whole premise.

The question is since this is the season for gaslighting about our intentions to keep other teams from knowing what we are doing, why believe anything the talking heads report. Misinformation is the rule not exception. Let's not go nuts until we see what happens.

2 missed game winning kicks in one game
panthers55 replied to Day1PanthersFan's topic in Carolina Panthers
For the price Pineiro was a fabulous value and was money with the exception of the Atlanta game. One option is to cut or trade Gonzales and his 2.5 million cap hit leaving 625000 in dead cap for a savings of 1.5 million in cap space. ,We can sign Pineiro on a 2 year 2 million dollar deal and save money in the process. -
Under No Circumstances Should We Trade a Haul for a QB/Pick
panthers55 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we stay where we are we can land a guy like Richardson who is a big time talent. And if these offensive geniuses we are looking at are as good as advertised they should be able to maximize the potential of whoever we pick. We don't have to mortgage the farm for a top 2 pick. There will be good qbs at 9 just like most years. -
If you want to get the #1 pick from the Bears, what's your move?
panthers55 replied to EgoDogg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Given that Burns and Moore were both 1st rounders and you are giving up another first and 2seconds to move up 8 spots you are giving away the farm for a maybe. In fact we have been offered 2 1sts for Burns who is a pro-bowler making him an even trade to move up let alone Moore who had 3 1000 yard seasons. I think there will be great qbs at 9 just like there have been in recent drafts.
