  1. Yet that didn't happen in 2022 despite heavy rushes by teams like Pittsburgh. He had a passer rating of 108 and was 14 for 23 for 225 yards despite being under pressure and sacked 4 times. Apparently with even a ok OC he was able to not do that. Imagine how much better it will be with this staff.
  2. You have an agenda about Darnold that is obvious so honestly your analysis is flawed by your bias. Any reasonable person clearly saw the improvement which has been acknowledged by most qb watchers. So responding back as I have in the past is wasted. You aren't going to change your mind so I won't bother. Just know your opinion is not shared by most knowledgeable observers.
  3. If you look at Darnolds 2022 season it was night and day different from 2021. He moved better in the pocket, avoided pressure and kept looking downfield. His pre and post snap decision making was much improved. He managed games much better and even in the Saints game was able to generate offense at the end to score the winning field goal. With a competent staff he will only improve so he would be a good pickup if the money is right.
  4. The conversation always seem to be either draft a rookie or bring in a vet. Fitteter said he was swinging for the fence which means he will do both. He will draft a qb likely in day 1 and will bring in a vet. Reich wants a winning season right away. So does Tepper and so do I. We have to do better than 7-10 next year and should. So we won't put all our eggs in 1 basket but take a few swings to ensure success.
  5. Guaranteed money is all that matters. You can sign him for 7 years and dump him after 2 as long as the dead cap money isn't too high. The problem is qbs want everything guaranteed rather than incentive based which has always been the better way to boost performance.
  6. I am with you on the need for an edge rusher but am thinking more of an outside linebacker pass rusher like a Vonn Miller type maybe Miles Murphy or Anderson if they fall. Or Wilson if you want a project with great upside.
  7. Fitterer said he would be swinging for the fences meaning he isn't going to be limited to a vet or a young gun. But there are practicalities. If we spend draft capital on a vet trade we won't have the ammunition to move up in the draft for a top 3 qb. And if we go for moving up in the draft any vet we get will be a free agent or we can trade for him relatively cheaply. Carr is a real possibility now that he has been released. But so is Darnold and a bunch others. Will we draft one? Absolutely we will have both young guys to develop and vets to start or mentor the young guys. That is what we did with coaches why not do the same with players as least to some extent.
  8. You read the athletic so you have probably seen it but this was a good article and about Fangio's tilt six and secondary coverage. https://theathletic.com/3311028/2022/05/24/vic-fangio-defense-analysis?source=user-shared-article
  9. I would like us to run an aggressive scheme with lots of blitzing and misdirection. It could be a Jim Johnson style 4-3 or a Dick Lebeau 3-4 as long as we don't sit back passively and let teams march down the field as we bend until we break.
  10. It remains to be seen how all the different alpha personalities will mesh but you have to be excited with this staff. Not only great coaches but several with real ties to the Panthers. Capers and his unfinished business. Reich leading the team again after almost 30 years. Now let's find that qb or three....
  11. Yeah there was a few stories about the Tepper effect which set up his rise to a multi-billionaire.
  12. It seems that with all these lateral moves that Carolina is a desirable place to be. Reich has made a huge difference already, bringing in a diverse group of experienced coaches. Tepper must be spreading the bucks as well since it isn't regulated by the cap.
  13. For wentz in 2016? It was 2 firsts not 3 and honestly he never lived up to expectations. Still another cautionary tail.
  14. When has giving up 3 firsts plus to move up in the draft worked out? Just because someone was stupid enough to do it once doesn't mean that became the norm or will happen again. Lance is the cautionary tale to convince us it wasn't worth it...
  15. What we learned was this trade was a bust and not good for San Fran. It is a warning to teams it was too much for an unproven rookie. May not happen again...
  16. Carr is a great option if we can convince him to take an incentive based contract. I just don't know if he is worth a fully guaranteed contract in the 30,000 or above range. It isn't he can't be really good but how good at what price versus other options. Seems the trend is fully guaranteed contracts that often don't work out that well.
  17. About 1/4 to 1/3 of the time teams line up under center. And it isn't usually a qb sneak but it is a running play. The question actually would be whether you would pass when under center to confuse the defense or mostly run the ball like most teams under center which telegraphs it is a run to the defense. I suspect he would only pass out of the shotgun like he has at Alabama.
  18. I doubt anyone thinks he did well enough to be the unquestioned starter. But he did do enough to be on the roster if the money can be worked out. Should be interesting to get Reich's opinion on that.
  19. Won't be happening and I am not sure how choked up I am about it.
  20. I was rooting for Philly hard but honestly I didn't think much of the playcalling especially the passing. It was Brown making crazy catches on contested balls and the rest was dink and dunk. They ran the ball for much of their yards. I saw few if any second half adjustments. If it weren't for Hurts carrying the team on his back they wouldn't have been in it at all. Not sure how much Philly success was scheme or individual effort. I am tending toward the latter.
  21. To me the best way to do it is have a relatively low base pay with lots of incentives if certain goals are achieved. That is fair to both sides. If you play great you get a lot more but if you don't we cut our losses. Guaranteed money which is all they want, actually takes away the incentive to over perform.
  22. I am looking for us to develop a team that is a playoff contender. When you get in the playoffs anything can happen with a little luck and playing your best ball at the end of the season.
  23. No you don't have to try to distort what I said to the extreme. I said he played well enough to be a backup somewhere and given the context he did a good job managing the game coming off IR. And again we aren't talking Matt Rhule or Darnold of 2021. There are plenty of grounding.exercises to stop a flashback. Stay in the present to avoid the pain or constantly talking about the past. Seriously....
  24. So I read speculation that he might be worth 5-8 million as a back up on a 1 year deal. What were you thinking is a premium? He was on IR for most of the season so he isn't exactly in a great negotiating position if he wants to stay here.
