  1. Sure there are. Few if any QBs throw 50 yards in the air. They throw 35 or 40 yards to a receiver in stride and he goes the other 20 yards. How many of those are there. Lots.
  2. His arm is strong enough to throw it 40 yards in the air and he can make all the throws. He will develop more velocity as he improves in an NFL program physically and mentally. He won't be confused for being athletic but like Brees he is elusive in the pocket which is very important.
  3. Like I said, you got a problem. You go on any post whether directed to you or not to say negative things about Jones. Your analogy is lame. The speed of the wide receiver is a huge part of his value. The 40 of a QB isn't. A slow wide receiver doesn't get drafted so they have to run. But QBs dont. They can claim they tweaked a hammy in practice. Easy. But the heart comment came from doing difficult things and staying longer and throwing with few breaks to show his endurance. He knows he is going in the first round no matter how he did. I think he is a competitive guy who wanted to show that the critics were wrong. I can respect that and give him some credit.
  4. Most guys on their pro day set it up so they look good and don't do things that might expose their weaknesses. Jones did just the opposite. He was rolling out and throwing on the run. He was supposed to throw roughly 50 throws but by many accounts surpassed that by a lot. That shows heart and competitiveness. As for whether he is my favorite QB this draft, he isn't. Wilson is my favorite. Even more than Lawrence who is my second choice. Jones would be third on my list. So the advantage of Jones is he will be good and we could get him at 8. The question is whether Wilson would be so much better he would be worth 3 first rounders. I am actually thinking he might be. But I would have to rely on interviews and my expert scouts for guidance.
  5. Itell them what I see and think and then only respond most times to direct posts involving me. I don't try to dominate the conversation and post 50 times saying the same thing as if that might keep us from drafting him.
  6. Not a lot. I heard some criticism as expected but overall more folks were impressed versus disappointed. Stats aren't what I look at but rather the qualities that make for a successful QB in the NFL little things like accuracy, good football knowledge, quick decisions, good elusiveness in the pocket, able to make all the throws. Has a good deep ball, etc. Just a couple of things that Jones had in abundance.
  7. He had a great year in 2015. No question. I was very disappointed it was once and done. Most times QBs get MVP but that doesn't mean he was the best player. But I would say he made his case that year and I could go along with that. Still like his career he struggled with consistency from year to year and after the injury to. His shoulder he was never the same.
  8. No they all werent. You see what you want to see. He did a very good job and put himself out there making difficult throws and showed a lot of heart and skill. If we draft him he will be a good one for us.
  9. Not true at all. You clearly don't like him which is fine. Buy let's not assume that everyone agrees with you or that you even know what you are talking about It doesn't keep you from dominating any Jones thread with negativity or stating you opinion no matter how biased.
  10. Nah. He has a much better arm and is willing to throw it deep. Teddy could have been much better than he played. He was too various and rarely threw deep. Mac has no problem going deep.
  11. Instead of taking the easy way out and limiting the throws he made to look good, he did a challenging mix of deep balls, rollout and throwing on the move. So he may not look as good as he could if he had limited his throws, he showed some mobility and while not hugely athletic he wasn't glacially slow and showed he isn't afraid to take chances and do the hard stuff. I feel better about him now then I did before the day started.
  12. Cam was never the greatest player in the league. He was the greatest dual threat QB for a few years but he had serious flaws he never fixed. He couldn't make all the throws and never had touch on the ball. He never successfully anticipated receivers and threw them open. He was decent over the middle on crossing routes but not on out routes and corner routes. He tried to throw to open receivers not throw to open up receivers. He bailed too often under pressure and didn't step up. When he tried to evade pressure he turned his back to his receivers and bailed to his left so often it was predictable. He would throw a strike between 3 defenders on 1 play and throw it 6 ft over the receivers head on the next. He had no consistency which is a big reason the offense bogged down so much. This doesn't include anything about his reading defenses or calling audibles which he struggled with often because he took so long to even get up to the line. No I loved Cam and have several jerseys of his. But he had some serious issues which he could have worked much harder on but for whatever reason he didn't. Sure he often didn't have great talent around him but he was just as responsible for some of the issues as well. Actually Cams failure to improve his mechanics and learn defenses is one reason I am not a great Lance fan. I don't know Lance will put in the work to improve. Many athletic QBs rely on their athletics to make up for their deficits in other areas.
  13. Definitely wouldn't trade for Mariotta. Don't want to inherit that contract. Once released you can sign him for much less. If we release Bridgewater before 6/1 the dead cap in 2021 is 20 million. After 6/1 it is 15 million. If we trade him pre 6/1 the dead cap in 2021 is 10 million. An after 6/1 trade would cost us 5 million in dead cap space in 2021. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/teddy-bridgewater-14441/
  14. Hard to say. Hardy was reportedly pretty erratic and getting rid of him seemed due to his issues and not his talent which was good. The assault charges just seemed to seal the deal. Tepper just seems pretty desperate to begin winning. He hasn't experienced a winning season since he took over. He said at one point something to the effect that what a player did on the football field was his main consideration.
  15. Whatever the outcome this has definitely hurt Watson. Apparently there are 4 cases and the lawyers are trying to find more. How much they find if anything will go a long way to determining his ultimate trade value. Tepper will take him anyway unless he was suspended from the league. He doesn't care about character as long as you can help the team he is on board.
  16. I liked Obada but I am going to give Fitterer and Rhule a chance to put this roster together. There will be plenty of time to complain in the fall if we suck on the defensive line or lack depth.
  17. So if the allegations are true what does that do to his trade value?
  18. Is that a stat that the nfl keeps. There are many quarterbacks who have increased their deep passing accuracy with experience in the nfl. There are QBs who have had a long carreer and have kept their deep ball intact although they have declining arm strength. Brady, Rothlisburger There are guys who have had surgery and had to built their velocity from essentially zero. Brees. Arm strength is one factor in ball velocity but it isn't the biggest one. And specific exercises can surely improve arm strength. Why can't the same thing that works with rehab help a guy without an injury ?
  19. So I send you an article quoting Mahomes saying that he owes his superstrong arm to a baseball drill he has practiced since he was 5 and that isn't evidence that you can gain strength and improve your velocity through exercise and physical training? Nowhere did he talk about god given talent but hard work practice and repetition. Where is the evidence to back up your supposition it is God given and not amenable to change. Then we at least have something to discuss. So far it is your opinion
  20. I would agree that many QBs do max out after college but the question is whether they could get more velocity or not. Obviously if you throw hard already you don't need to but how about guys who don't have strong arms like Bridgewater. He looks like a bean pole and really needs to put on some serious muscle. Will it turn him into a strong passer? Unlikely but could he improve significantly? I think he could be better if he had a stronger base and more lower body strength. Given that Jones can throw 35 yards in the air and drop a dime he might think he is fine. I think he needs to work on his velocity.
  21. You are right throwing velocity doesn't go up for many nfl QBs but not because you can't improve it but rather it isn't a major focus for most QBs. Maybe because coaching staffs don't think that is where QBs should spend the bulk of their time and energy.
  22. Just what I said. Ball velocity is impacted by technique and arm strength. And with improved technique and more arm strength you can improve your ability to throw harder. Here is an article discussing how to help young pitchers gain velocity. And none of them say give up because it is god given And your analogies are wrong. Maddox never tried to throw a 90 mph fastball. He was all about ball placement and varying his speed and angle to get folks looking or swinging out of the strike zone. I am sure if he focused on throwing faster he could have. After all he threw in the mid 80s. Ball velocity is not the most important part of being a pitcher just like arm strength is not that important in the NFL. As for why guys in the NFL don't improve their skills, then tell me why Cam struggled his whole career with accuracy and decision making. He had the arm strength, according to you it is easy to become more accurate and improve your ability to speed up your decision making. He surely had great work effort, so what was the problem??? Obviously genetics play a part as torque or arm velocity is driven by a number of factors like body mass, length of your arms and legs but so much more is technique. Can you improve your ball velocity? Of course. Here are some articles. https://blogs.usafootball.com/blog/1257/4-exercises-to-build-quarterback-arm-strength https://www.stack.com/a/how-to-throw-harder. https://www.stack.com/a/the-childhood-drill-that-helped-pat-mahomes-build-superhuman-arm-strength#:~:text=Skills %2F%2F Baseball-,The Childhood Drill That Helped Pat Mahomes Build Superhuman Arm,shreds the laws of physics. Gee Mahomes discusses that his ability to throw a long way wasn't god given it was developed through exercise since he was 5. Seems you could learn something from the old guys.
  23. That isn't true at all. If you throw an 85 mph fastball as a college player, you think you can't improve on that based on better technique and more muscle and get in the 90s. You think guys don't train for the combine and improve their 40 time ? And you really think it is easier to change your fundamentals and consistency which is why most QBs are inaccurate easier than hitting the gym and adding 15 lbs of muscle. Or do you think arm strength isn't about how much muscle you have?? Strength isn't god given, it is developed by hard work over time. Look at Smitty when he came in the league and then in 2005. You think he didn't get stronger. Height might be God given but strength isn't.
  24. I would like us to draft Wilson if we can move up without giving up the farm. But it depends on the asking price. The same with Watson. Who wouldn't want these guys? But if we stay at 8 I would be fine with Jones at that point more so than Lance.
