  1. No idea if he will reach his potential with us but I totally agree. He would be better than most if not all the QBs in this draft and he has 3 years of NFL experience. I would much rather ride with Darnold and getting our left tackle of the future plus more draft picks versus picking a project like Lance or Justin.
  2. I said we were going to trade back a few weeks ago and nothing has changed. Rhule wanted to trade back last year but Hurney got Brown. With Fitterer here the possible of a trade back is there whether a QB is available or not. Fields and Lance are far from sure things and Darnold is just as likely to succeed if not more so. Just like we passed on Simmons and got Chinn in the second. We have our QB and see several tackles available if we stay or drop back. Seems this has been the plan once we drafted Darnold despite all the Lance and Fields conversation. I figure once SF gave up the farm for the third pick it became too expensive. Given both the Jets and Jaguars don't seem likely to move it is possible we may have traded back even with the third pick. Obviously would gotten more but let's see how much in the draft.
  3. I agree that Darnold has a lot to prove as well. But if Brady's system is as quarterback friendly as it is supposed to be then that could fix many of the issues he had. Kalil noted that Gase didn't allow Darnold to change plays or make adjustments after the play was called in. So this system will be night and day different. We will see if Darnold can read defenses presnap and make adjustments. It could be like starting all over again from a football knowledge point of view. Hopefully the three years of experience has at least help slow down the game for Darnold. I expect if he starts for us, there will be a big learning curve. Thank goodness for 3 preseason games.
  4. If you really like Fields or Lance more than finding your left tackle for a decade then you pull the trigger. Or if drafting a project is so compelling you ignore the opportunity to move back in the first round and get another first round pick and more and still get your franchise LT then go for it. But I think the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction where athleticism now becomes more important than all the skills that have made quarterbacks successful in the NFL for forever. It is like we can teach everything but athleticism despite the reality that doesn't seem to be true.
  5. He would give us a taller bigger redzone target with good hands and a possession receiver with decent speed. I like the competition which should elevate everyone's game.
  6. We went there with the Roaring Riot to London in 2019 when we beat Tampa. Amazing trip and great stadium although I doubt we have plans for a retractable roof like there. With the weather they get you need a roof.
  7. I had heard rumors about the land across the street when the Charlotte Pipe and Foundry moved to Stanley County. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/05/12/potential-panthers-stadium-site-cleared-after-factory-moves/
  8. This is Tottenham Stadium from the cheap seats. Assuming I uploaded them properly.
  9. Ding Ding we have a winner. Exactly the plan all along. Build an indoor stadium over time and use the present stadium for multipurpose and then exclusive for soccer once the new one is built.
  10. If a QB is there and we can trade down we should do it in a new york minute as long as we get great compensation. And I think that if the QBs are all gone and the trade value is meh then take the BPA at tackle or corner. We will get an instant starter in either case.
  11. Why. He isn't a better athlete than Darnold and he is a project. Darnold is an experienced veteran who is eager to redeem himself. I didn't see signs he was David Carred or going to be a flop. He played hard and didn't give up despite no talent around him and a poor defense that gave up 29 points a game or 26 out of 32. Their offensive output was abysmal at 15 points a game the worse in the league. He surely didn't look good but who would have? Who had a worse supporting cast than the Jets. Jacksonville maybe. I can see those that love Trevor or Wilson but Lance and Fields have question marks. They might be great but we can pick a tackle or corner who we know will be great as they might be the best player at their position and not the 4th or 5th best quarterback prospect.
  12. Then you tell them to stick it and trade with someone else or get a real stud at 8. We would hold the cards not them. We don't have to trade with anyone.
  13. If any QB is still there at 8 you trade back if you can get another 1st and maybe a couple of picks next year since we don't have a second or 4th in 2022. There will be lots of great players in the top 15 given 5 of them are QBs. Darnold is 23 and experienced. He is better than anyone in this draft not named Trevor. And after that interview I would have big questions about what happens if Lawrence struggles for Jacksonville and the losses mount. I wonder how much he will love the game then since that is his only reason for playing
  14. I think we will likely trade down. Rhule wanted to last year but Hurney didn't. Hurney is gone and Fitterer seems okay with trading down. Then again Seattle hasnt picked in the top 10 in a long time so it might make a difference. Still if we could swaps firsts and get next year's first as well as a few other picks it would be worth it. Otherwise stay at 8 and get a stud.
  15. I think they might if we hold onto him and tell folks we aren't releasing him. Of course teams are going to sit back and wait for him to be released unless they want to guarantee he comes to them or think we are keeping him. We have really mishandled the PR on this from the start.
  16. I already said that and expect him to be traded. I also think we may have to eat some of the money on the guranteed money to get a team to make the trade assuming they want him as their backup. When have I said trading him wasn't better than keeping him or cutting him. I made this point about the trade almost a month ago. Where you been?
  17. I guess the teams who have expressed interest must be stupid then
  18. Not necessarily. We need to rework his contract to make it more trade friendly and Bridgewater is likely still exploring his options.
  19. Cap money isn't the issue. The question is whether that small amount of savings justifies not having a quality backup this year. After watching all the jags we used when Cam went down you would think a quality backup would be important and not an after thought. Sure you are paying starting money to a backup but you are going to spend 20 million for nothing or 23 million for a guy who can start a few games and maybe get you a few wins.
  20. You have to factor in his replacement so it isn't 8.million savings. And if Darnold goes down given he has only played 16 games one season then who is the backup? Grier or PJ? Or do we draft a guy. Seems to me that the little we save isn't worth cutting him. If we don't trade him which I think we will, we need to keep him and dump him next year. Cap room isn't an issue this year and we are one of the few teams that can say that.
  21. That was largely due to a crappy scheme with no pressure. Which defensive back looked good for us?
  22. Chinn played a lot more at linebacker because we didn't have three linebackers who were decent. Buffalo nickel which was first used as McDermott coined it to use a coverage linebacker in the nickel but it wasn't a full time position but only situational. And that was based on a 4-3 scheme which we mixed in with a lot of 3-5-3 last year. We got rid of Boston because we plan to move him back to his normal position which is safety. And yes we did play cover 1 roughly 20% of the time. My understanding was we would have done it more but our secondary wasn't very good and we didn't have many who could play man. I expect we will run more of it this year. So yes Chinn could assume more of an ED Reed type free safety position as his coverage skills improve and we play more single high safety to help with the pass rush.
  23. He is a second year player so of course he isn't playing at an all pro level yet. But his athleticism and nose for being around the ball and his hard hitting reminds me of those guys. Hopefully he has the career those guys did.
  24. He played a lot of linebacker last year more out of our necessity than his preferred position. He is more of a natural safety and would be our version of Earl Thomas or Ed Reed. I think we will use him as a hybrid but put him more at safety if our linebacking corps is improved.
