Could Taylor Moton become the Panthers' left tackle permanently?
panthers55 replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
To be clear here, I surely hope the coaches don't do what the huddle suggests 95% of the time. (unless of course it was my idea). Who says Moton could have played left tackle 3 years ago or even last year. Heck it isn't decided he is the best guy this year. So while it has been suggested for a while it is far from settled or proven to be the best plan. -
Disagree that RT isn't as important as LT. Watch how many times Burns lines up on the left side this year. Plus who says Moton won't play left tackle. At this point he is worth whatever we pay him.

Of all the college coaches who moved from college to the NFL, only 2 have made the playoffs within 2 years. Chip Kelly and Jim Harbaugh. None did it with a rookie QB. So if Meyers takes them to the playoffs with Lawrence within 2 years it will be a first in the NFL. In other words it ain't happening.

Ranking The NFC South Offinsive Lines: How Low Do The Panthers Go?
panthers55 replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think that last year is predictive at all of this year or that our line will be bad or good necessarily. Each year stands for itself and each team has to find its own chemistry. I would agree the line was not good last year just like the rest of the team. But I won't be surprised if they are better this year. It will have a lot to do with how fast Darnold plays and can master the playbook. But TBs issue with all the short throws and lack of deep ball was that teams didn't have to play their safeties back and could blitz with impunity knowing they weren't going to give up a bunch of big plays. Blitzes stop when you make them pay. TB failed to do that. Teams blitzed us particularly on third down last year more frequently than they did other teams so him getting the ball out wasn't as big of a positive as it should have been if TB had actually used the whole field and threw the ball downfield -
Ranking The NFC South Offinsive Lines: How Low Do The Panthers Go?
panthers55 replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Given we have a month to kill this might serve as news but seriously preseason rankings are a waste anyway and when it involves a team with lots of new parts it is even more useless. Let's also see how NO does when they don't have a QB who gets the ball out as quickly as Brees. I expect them to take a nosedive in a number of categories this year. -
Given that Rhule didn't have McCaffrey but for 3 games you don't know how he will be used. And the reason Kamara isnt used as a true running back is because he can't do what CMC can do. CMC has more ability and is more versatile than Kamara so why would we limit him. I know the injury issue was a big thing but CMC has been heavily used in college and the pros with no ill effects until last year. And I am not sure the type of injuries he sustained were typically associated with over use. I would like to dial back some of the wear and tear on CMC but the other argument is that when you pay top dollar for a player he needs to be on the field as much as possible.
-
That is a good point. How much does NO rely on Kamara? GuyÂąs like CMC and Kamara are not the norm and are unique weapons that are worth what they are getting paid. Injuries happen and that sucks but the idea that his contract prevents us from signing other guys is not true at all. The cap can be manipulated a dozen ways.

Nope I was referring to you but this could apply to many others. Why constantly complain about the past instead of focusing on the present and future?. Hurney and Rivera are gone. If you didn't like what they did why bring it up to complain. You should be glad they are gone and should stop bringing up the negative or even.mentjoning them.. You said we better change our attitude of waiting to sign players and I.pointed out we did better than that. We changed our total staff and have new folks. Instead of looking forward you and plenty others keep bringing up the past and complaining about things that are no longer germaine. Hurney is gone, Why keep getting worked up about something that happened in the past? Move on.. That is the point.

The problem with picking and choosing players and then showing all the average amounts per contract is that the way contracts are structured and spaced out they can all be fit under the cap if done correctly. For example Moton will be done this year and will be cheaper no matter the contract in 2022 and likely 2023. Darnold is signed through 2022 and with a new contract in 2023 he will be relatively cheap given the signing bonus serves as the primary salary. And so forth with each guy. As the Saints showed the cap can be manipulated in a number of ways and isn't the problem it is made out out to be.

Darnold has a great deep ball and with both DJ and Robby as deep threats I predict a really explosive offense as long as our line gives him time. That should also open up the underneath routes for CMC or Arnold.

It is easy to pay a guy whatever he wants as long as you control the guaranteed money. The first year every contract is cap friendly and often year 2 averages under the average for the contract. It isn't until year 3 you have to pay a lot and that gives you until 2024 before his contract is a big drag. By then the cap will have really soared and his contract won't look that bad. Let's say we give him a huge 5 year 100 million contract. We guarantee 60 million of which 30 million is a signing bonus. Of the remaining guaranteed money we guarantee his salary his first 2 years using up most of it. Then the big salary years aren't guaranteed and we can cut him without huge dead money. It could go like this. Year 1 (2022) his salary 8 million guaranteed and with a 6 million hit for the signing bonus his cap hit for 2022 is 14 million. In 2023 we pay him 12 million salary guaranteed and with his 6 million from the signing bonus his cap hit is 18 million. That pays him 50 million of the 60 million guaranteed leaving 10 left and he still has 3 years on his contract. In 2025 you give him a guaranteed roster bonus of 10 million if he is still here in March and a salary of 8 million unguaranteed with 6 million from the signing bonus for a cap hit of 24 million. That gets rid of the guaranteed money and his dead cap goes down to 10 million and 5 his last 2 years. You have paid him a total of 68 million and have 32 million plus the signing bonus left over of 10 million for a combined cap hit of 42 million or 22 million for his last 2 years with nothing guaranteed. Doesn't seem that absurd and if I can figure this out I am sure Suleiman can do a much better job. I hope my.math is correct but if not I am sure huddlers will pile in to correct it. LoL

I have said that I am going to be positive and look to the future and not focus on the past. It is too depressing. All I will say is that you aren't wrong and the scheme was awful. I have faith that since Snow has experience in the NFL as a DC now and has seen some great defensive units and has had time to make changes to better utilize the talent that he has, he will have a more aggressive scheme and put more pressure on opposing offenses. I surely hope he has retired the 3-5-3 prevent defense and will mix up the rushes and scheme to be more deceptive and harder to scheme against. He is going to see a traditionally very aggressive defense when we scrimmage Baltimore. I hope he is taking notes during the scrimmages. That is the kind of defense I hope we can grow into.

Beyond The Numbers: Panthers’ Youth Focus Should Pay Dividends
panthers55 replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
So it seems the effect difference ignoring age and including it was pretty small. Then distilling a players value over 4 seasons into a single value or number for comparison seems somewhat unsound given the different ways to evaluate value. Finally using regressive analysis to show causality is like using rankings to compare individuals. Without comparing apples to apples and using absolute numbers the result is hardly conclusive or that useful. Just my opinion. -
Tackling production will go down hopefully. You don't want your safety leading the team in tackles. But production for interceptions and passes defended should go way up. I am not worried because he played run first and coverage second so it wasn't his focus. This year it will be more about the pass and he has a year of experience. He himself said he played safety all through college so this is a change to his old and familiar position not a new one. He should flourish in his role.
-
Here we go again bitching about the past. Let's get through the PTSD so we can focus on the future instead of always dwelling on the past. It wasn't great the first time, why keep bringing it up over and over. Unless you just like to bitch and complain or just like to be miserable.
-
The extension is for the next 5 years and they restructured the 2021 salary hit to lower the amount. The saints always kick things down the road which seems to work for them.
-
It means what I have said all along. Great tackles get paid well whether they are a left or right tackle. Moton will get paid here or he will play under the tag this year and be gone next. But he will make top money and will be worth every cent.

Rotary International's mission is to wipeout polio worldwide. There were only 17 cases reported in 2017. The vaccine is awesome there as well. The polio vaccine of course.
