Give me some hope. Can this offense be turned around?
panthers55 replied to Khaki Lackey's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think our offense isn't maximizing what we do well. Why is CMC not lining up in the slot and terrorizing opposing linebackers. Why aren't we using trips right or left and running picks and smoke routes. Why don't we give Baker layup passes early to build his confidence. McAdoo and Baker aren't on the same page yet and frankly the receivers need to do a lot more to help Baker out. The Saints receivers were snagging balls out of the off and off the turf and our guys dropped passes hitting them in the hand. -
It is called a rumor for a reason.

A nose tackle isn't the same in body style or function in a 3-4 versus a 4-3. A nose tackle in a 4-3 which is what we largely run has to be able to sit down and take on a double team in a running situation while also being able to collapse the pocket internally against the pass. Brown has both the size to hold his block but the speed and athleticism to collapse the pocket.
-
When he was motivated. Problem was he was rarely in good shape and disappeared for series at a time. His motivation was often suspect. I think he largely wasted his talent.
-
It takes time to become a really good nose tackle and Brown is still learning. Expectations were so high because he was a top 10 pick that I'd was inevitable he was going to get a bust label if he struggled at all.
-
Brown has always been better than folks here give him credit. He is a beast and just needed to refine his technique and get his NFL body through a pro regime of strength building. Now that he has some good talent around him teams can't gameplan against him and have to.play him straight up which helps him win more battles

Just a friendly reminder about today's victory...
panthers55 replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
No that just points out the past not the future. Much like depression when you look back you see what happened not what is going to happen. It doesn't mean that the future has to be better because it might not but it doesn't have to be bad. And when you say you are negative about the future that is an emotional response not a factual statement. You may say your viewpoint is informed by facts but that cuts both ways. I can say that we are two 50 yard plus field goals away from 3-0. And how many teams have lost 2 games in a row by game winning field goals of over 50 yards in the history of the league. The answer is none. So we lost our first 2 games with worse luck than any team in the history of the league and we should be all gloom and doom? So while you can find objective facts to inform your opinion on both sides, having a negative attitude is not being objective at this point. -

Who is ever as objective as they think they are. And let's be real most folks staying negative are hardly objective. They have negative opinions and keep them despite what happens. -

You can tell how traumatized and depressed some folks are. They can't be happy because we might lose again next week or the week after. Which might be true and it is the reason actually to be happy. Since we don't know the future even though folks predict the worst you have to enjoy the present and enjoy what good comes along. If we are going to go 3-14 why not enjoy the 3 wins. And heaven forbid we go on a roll and actually play better and win more. But for all those who can't enjoy the win I hope you change your attitude. Seems rather pointless to stay negative the whole time. But to each their own. -
I don't know what his ceiling is but this seems like the floor. He doesn't trust his line or his receivers as they don't fight for the ball like the Saints receivers do. He doesn't throw early and often holds the ball. He doesn't throw the ball away or move well in the pocket. Meanwhile he often has no one to throw the ball who is open. Today McAdoo finally started to scheme some easy confidence booster passes to help Baker get into a rhythm in the third quarter. Why not come out with that to start the game?? Baker has to be better but so does the whole offense. And if Shenault isn't starting he better have a package in the redzone and on third down. He is big and physical.

The defense can carry the team if this offense can do anything...
panthers55 replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't know why we keep running a passive zone when our strength was supposed to be man to man with safety help in a cover 1. They had easy quick hitters for 5 yards available all day as we played well off the receivers. Meanwhile the Saints played mostly man all day and suffocated our receivers. -
This is my biggest concern right now. I think you are right that we don't scheme guys open with rubs, picks, overloads like McAdoo promised when he said they would scheme guys open. I haven't seen it yet. Disappointing so far.

Official Panthers at Giants please god let us win a game thread

Damn prevent defense again. They just moved down the field. Snow gotta stop and go back to what was working. -
No Sam never had a winning season suggesting he couldn't raise the level of those around him. I hoped Sam was the one and liked his first several games but when he got pressured he caved. The difference is Baker is a proven commodity so they are so different.
-
They really didn't drive much at all. They started on the 25 and with a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty that is their own 40. He kicked from our own 48 so they drove the ball roughly 18 yards accounting for the line of scrimmage. They were gifted the win by that penalty.

Yeah I have seen enough qbs to know when a qb is a legitimate pro QB and Baker has it. But he still needs good coaching, a scheme that matches his abilities and time in the same system to master it. So far he hasn't that much of the three.
-
Baker is not really that experienced given Kitchens probably set him back and he was injured most of last year and picked up bad habits. His one great year in 2020 is likely where he learned to play pro football from a competent OC. Hopefully McAdoo will be able to help him keep gaining knowledge and experience. But no he is isn't close to his ceiling in this offense not even close

If you were paying attention Ickey did have help quite a bit. Christensen helped on inside rushes and even on some of the pressures and sacks. Garrett is a probowler and we have a rookie and second year player. Yeah we took a beating at times but I though they improved as the game proceeded.
-
If you were evaluating him fairly at this point it would be a lot more positive in his first game with a new team and offensive coordinator. Sure he sucked out of the gate but remember when you could tell how it was going to go with Jake and even Cam early in their career when if they started out bad it rarely got better. Baker made good adjustments in the second half. The things franchise guys do.
-
If you say you have never seen a pro team quit you just exposed how few games you have watched or that you may be watching but don't know how to evaluate what you are seeing. It happens all the time when teams get drubbed like we did in the first half.
-
We are too inconsistent in all three phases to be a playoff team but I saw lots of positive signs that we are headed in a positive direction. The defense and especially penalties killed us today and extended drives.
-
Coordinators do the heavy lifting. HCs do the pontificating and speeches. This is the first year we have actually had NFL people in key positions. Sure we lost but how many.comebacks in the second half have we had under Rhule. New day folks.
-
Wow awful touchy. Must have hit a nerve. Amazing how the truth we don't want to see does that.
-
I thought that penalties did a ton to derail us today. I was happy about the adjustments in the second half but too many errors, blown coverage, wiff blocking and poor tackling. I hope that issue to being the first game and we clean those up.
-
No need to defend him. I am just explaining it to you the way it is. You have to do your part to understand basic football.
