I want to see CMC on the Panthers with a competent offense. The hell with Buffalo they have an excess of talent already. He is getting tens of millions to be our offense win or lose. I don't feel sorry for him either. This is a business and he is too valuable an asset to trade but Fitterer says he will listen to every offer.

Truth is it is better to make sure Horn is 100% before playing him. It isn't like he is going to singlehandedly change the game.ets see what happens. Tae for example played well in the times he has been in.

Peyton Manning on Will Levis and the Panthers

GMs and coaches have to choose what philosophy you embrace. Find a guy who is football savvy, a quick processor and a great game manager who is accurate and has an average NFL arm like Jones. Or you pick a guy with great athleticism which translated often to lots of one read and run with lots of short passes and limited reads so he might have great potential but he will need lots of work being raw like Willis. After all the job of a college coach is to win games not develop players for the NFL. Are there guys who have it all and could come in and start at a high level who come from a big program and have the football skills, and the athleticism so the learning curve isn't so extreme. If so I want that unicorn. Before I just pick a guy at QB when we already have Corral I need to know he is the one. Otherwise I can have the best player in the draft at any position or trade back to let's say 10 and get more picks. I want that unicorn. Is that the guy from Kentucky? Or maybe Stroud or McKee -
This 100%. MCcaffrey would make Moore and Anderson instantly better as team have to focus defensive resources on stopping him. Then once he is loose in the secondary every touch could go the distance. Trading him unless he is requesting it make little sense this year at least.

Is that you Tepper????

Jason LaCanfora: Where do Panthers go from here
panthers55 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't agree. The mistake in hiring Rhule besides hiring him in the first place was giving him a 6 year contract. That is what happens when you bring in a high profile college guy. They get way overpaid in college and to compete you have to do the same. If you decided to keep Wilkes on a 1 or two year prove it deal you aren't stuck long - term and most times guys in a contract year overperform. I wish everyone was on a performance based contract that incented everyone to play or coach like they were in a contract year.- 51 replies

Thanks for the optimism. I have no clue how things will turn out but like you I want something to root for and hope Wilks is the man who can lead us there.
-
The only reason Tepper felt he could fire Rhule was because he already knew that he had Wilkes and Holcomb ready to take over if Rhule failed. I wondered why Wilkes tookt he role he did and stayed despite not agreeing with Snows's schemes and his college approach. I wouldn't doubt Wilkes and Tepper talked quite a bit and this makes sense now. Maybe intensity and urgency is what we need to get over hump as everyone wants to say. I know one thing, I really hate the losing. I am tired of everyone else righting their ship at our expense. Going to games and hearing other teams chanting and happy as we trudge out once again losing in the second half.

If you can't get better than a third you keep him. If you switch him to the slot and put Foreman running between the tackles you have a decent running game and McCaffrey becomes your number 1 receiver. You preserve him and use him to his best ability. But trading him and eating a ton of dead cap is a stupid idea. There won't be a third rounder with half his talent in this draft.

You obviously missed the point. So let me clarify. Firing the soccer coach and Rhule was caused by hiring the wrong guys to start with. And it was because he trusted the wrong folks to make the decision which is why Hurney and some soccer guys are gone as well. His process was flawed and that is what needs to be fixed. He doesn't know sports like he knows finance and needs to rely on proven guys to get the right coaches or make the right deals. How did you read what I wrote and not have a better understanding of what I posted. It was pretty clear. Tepper is the problem and trying to fix it by firing your guys is like closing the barndoor after the horse has already run away.

There is lots to bitch about with Tepper but replacing Ramirez with Lattansio was a very good move. We have a good defense and aggressive young players that form a good core while we bring in more firepower. Sound familiar.? No the problem with the Ramirez hiring is the same thing with Rhule being hired. Why did you think this would be a good idea in the first place???? There were redflags with both of them and Tepper let other folks talk him into something instead of hiring a consultant or two who has the proven ability to find the right guy. If Tepper hadn't given Rhule so big a contract he could have walked away sooner when they realized their mistake. At least they didnt wait with Ramirez. Tepper has been humbled over several mistakes and surely needs to stop acting like he has good instincts because he doesn't. Let's be serious, who gives a guy total control and then sits back when he hires college coaches with little NFL experience. If Rhule had brought in NFL guys his first year who knows what we could have done. But Tepper has to get it right because even loyal psl owners are selling their tickets because losing 9 out of 10 of your last home games kills morale and makes the tailgate the only good part of the game day experience.

Wilkes fired Snow because he thought Snows scheme was a college defense not a legitimate pro offense. Their shouting match was about use of the safeties and having DEs who couldn't defend the run. Snow did the same thing each week instead of gameplan for each team. Wilkes has lots of DC experience. And by the way Holcomb was Wilkes DC in Arizona so they both have similar philosophies and Holcomb will make the defensive calls
-
Like always it depends on who is available and who has the best vision for the team. Too early to know what options we will have.
-
It was between Wilkes and McAdoo. Sounds as if Fitterer and Tepper though Fitterer was the best option and as Tepper said, you try to win out of respect for players and fans. I don't think many defensive players respected Snow so it was an easy firing. I think the defense can get much better. And let's see what he tells McAdoo. My guess is simplify things and put McCaffrey in the slot. Run more overloads, picks and quick hitters. Or maybe that is just what I would be telling him.
-
Really liked him as a returner. Might give him work on sweeps and pitches getting him in space.
-
Almost. I think we have sucked up to now and underperformed our potential and with a new head coach and emphasis we may perform closer to our potential. Got it now ???
-
Then as I said we aren't tanking we are sucking which I hope doesn't happen.
-
Again the qb has to fit the system or you have to adapt the system to the qb. Right now Corral fits with McAdoo's system. Now if we change OCs and go with a different system then it is hard to say if that is still true.
-
Nope. I simply said that picking a guy in the first round and tanking to do so isn't a guaranteed recipe for success. And that Corral who some think was a first round talent may be as good as anyone else we can get. Given Fitterers pension to swing for the fences I suspect we may draft a QB but with limited picks I don't know if it is the imperative many folks here think. Which has been my point all along.
-
Won't argue that. But if supposedly guys like Willis and Corral were first round talents most years but all fell last year, the question is whether he can be as good as any of the guys coming out in this draft or is more like a true third rounder and more likely to bust.
-
No it just shows that putting all your hopes on a first round prospect isn't guaranteeing anything and if you want to use the Colts or Bengals as evidence that it works, I just point out the Patriots and Seattle as evidence it can be done other ways as well. And let's have the conversation about how many first round QBs bust.
-
Doesn't mean he won't be right next year.
-
There are no guarantees so why would we tank for a QB that has a good chance of not even being great let alone win Superbowls??
-
Agree we might draft another one given Fitterer's approach and drafting a qb is much cheaper than signing a veteran but given how many top 10 qbs bust and we have 2 of them as proof, tanking for a pick doesn't guarantee anything and more times than not doesn't work out long term
-
Again there is a huge difference between sucking and tanking. And even with Manning and Luck being supposedly the best the Colts win 1 superbowl between them. Meanwhile the Patriots won a bunch of SBs with a 6 rounder again proving you don't need to tank to find your franchise guy.
