Icky should be offensive rookie of the year
panthers55 replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't see him being ROY at all. I think he will be great down the road but he makes too many mistakes, commits too many penalties and gets beaten too often. There are rookie receivers for example who are much more deserving of the reward than he is at this point. -
I am interested to see how Darnold does after the bye on the road. It should be a big test since we haven't won on the road all season although we should have in Atlanta. Then we come back home against Blitzburgh. Win these games and then let's see what happens. If he wants another contract, then he needs to earn it..........

If Darnold plays well,do they keep him around?
panthers55 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think it is too early to close the book of Darnold. He has played 1 game so far. But if we win several of these next games and Darnold manages the games well, he would be someone I would be talking contract terms with. Not too long and more incentive based than guaranteed. But if we can make some noise even in a crappy division we need a starter going into next year and a veteran presence at QB even if we draft another one. Darnold would be on a win streak and Wilks will have coached us to a winning record since he took over. I am interested to see if we can attract better coaches and players....... -
They didn't blitz a whole lot and Sam threw it away or dumped it off. He played smart but the noise in Seattle and the pressure Pittsburgh has historically applied are ahead. Let's see how he progresses. I am looking forward to it.

I liked how solid Sam was in the pocket. He didn't rush his progressions and moved laterally or up the pocket to create a throwing lane. He kept looking downfield and looked comfortable which is not something I associate with him. .Maybe watching other guys play for really the first time in his career and studying defenses will pay off. Lets what happens when the heat gets turned up.

Bucs, Falcons lose...let's have some more pie
panthers55 replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Today was fun and the weather turned nice. It is so nice to win at home. Would love to beat the Steelers and you know so would Tepper. -
Let's see how he plays against Seattle on the road and then here against Pittsburgh. He has earned another start but he just showed he can be efficient and do his job. Good start and confidence booster. He isn't worth a contract yet.

My only concern with keeping Wilks as HC…

Assuming these folks who are so great want to come here. Didnt see our name on Sean Payton's list for example. -

Everyone says Wilks cant get us to the next level. Yet if he is Rivera 2.0 then he is good enough to get us to the Super Bowl like Rivera did. We just need our Cam Newton. -

I have to wonder if our head coach vacancy will generate a lot of great candidates with proven NFL success as a head coach who want to come here. Otherwise how are they an obvious upgrade just because they are offensive minded. -

Let's see how this finishes out. I want to see if we get the good Darnold we started out with last year or the one who got pummeled and saw ghosts. You can't make this stuff up.... -
Before we decide Wilkes shouldn't be considered let's see what our options are. I personally don't want to experiment with a guy with no head coaching experience or someone from college unless they have plenty of NFL experience. So who does that include? With two of our quarterbacks next year essentially being rookies, we need an experienced hand on the wheel. Who is an upgrade?

I thought the plan has been to draft a rookie QB if one looks better than Corral and then keep or bring in a vet who can give stability to the room and mentor the young guys. No need to change the plan. Now who those players are remain to be seen. Lots of games to play. Interested in how Baker is going to handle all the pressure that Baltimore is going to bring. He has to make them pay with quick passing and hot reads.

I don't respect tank mentality and have little tolerance for it from the same half dozen poster ad nauseum. How many posts did you make saying we were stupid for not making the trade. I was just asking a question I am sure I am not the only one who wondered that. Didn't realize you were going to be triggered. And it is equal opportunity. I have lots of discussions with tankers. You aren't alone.
-
I wonder how many times you will repeat that between now and the draft.
-
Looking forward to winning a few more at home so we can see hundreds of posts whining about how we aren't picking top 10 by the tankers again this offseason. NOT....

Luvu has done well. From a 1 year contract for 625,000 to a 2 year deal for 9 million he is getting paid and earning it. Wouldn't be surprised if his next deal isn't for longer and twice the bucks per year.

Jaycee Horn weighs in on the turf debate
panthers55 replied to PantherFanInPhilly's topic in Carolina Panthers
I got this from the NFLPA who think that turf is a big problem in football. https://nflpa.com/posts/only-natural-grass-can-level-the-nfls-playing-field#:~:text=Specifically%2C players have a 28,on turf compared to grass. -
How bad does PJ need to play to be removed as starter?
panthers55 replied to AlphabetsEnd's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was awful against Cincy for sure. And if he sucks like that expect us to consider putting in Baker or Darnold. Wilks is interim and not likely to be retained so he has nothing to lose. -

Turf is easier to maintain and cheaper over time so owners keep laying it down. There is no debate over which is better for the players. It is about saving money over player safety. And who made you chief groundskeeper. -
Jaycee Horn weighs in on the turf debate
panthers55 replied to PantherFanInPhilly's topic in Carolina Panthers
When we played Chelsea last summer in soccer, Tepper had to bring in a natural grass field for the game and then he dismantled it and went back to turf the week after. Chelsea wouldn't play on a turf field. -
PFF grades from Panthers v Falcons (week10)
panthers55 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hoped YGM would grow into the role and I hoped Haynes could add 30 lbs of muscle. Maybe combined they would make a good DE but if we stay with Corral and don't go QB in the draft, then I would be happy to get a stud DE. -

We could use a good bookend to Burns and we just don't have it.
