You bitch about everything. Now you start differentiating your bitching into categories. Why not try a different strategy and the 95% of what you think you don't say. Make it a new years resolution. We will all benefit from that. -

Wilks Set This Team Back
panthers55 replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
Winning against the Saints won't change our draft position much. Our strength of schedule is lower than any 7 win team so we pick before they do. We get a top 10 pick which will be 9th and we got to play meaningful games in December and January. Wilkes has done more for this franchise in 12 games than Rhule did since he got here. Anyone who see this as a setback has an agenda not based on facts. -
There was supposed to be help over the top. Safety blew it as well. That is player execution not failure to see the problem.

You act like the fans are responsible for what happened with the franchise or that bitching cures anything. Most folks who bitch and criticize everything find a team they like and a coach that better represents what they want. Frankly I don't understand fans who bitch and complain all the time and don't switch teams. Unless you are a masochist and like being miserable all the time. I am a Panther fan but don't agree with everything they do. I just don't waste my time bitching about everything when I can't fix anything. -

Of course I don't get triggered but your insistence on trashing Darnold at every turn needs to be noted and I did so. And I think many of us have been here since the beginning and know what great QB play looks like. You can't get Stockholm Syndrome unless you have been traumatized. Many of us can detach themselves from the game and keep their perspective. -

Actually your unwillingness to give him the credit he deserves is the pathetic part. His touchdown passes were great as was his overall game. Yes the interception cost us three but the strip sack wasn't on him that was Ickey all the way. He played a pretty good game with 350 yards in the air. Darnold is head and shoulders above where he was all of last year. McAdoo has done a great job developing him this year. Darnold isn't great but his 104 passer rating is in the top 10 so he isn't the same guy he was on the past. Anyone who is not totally biased sees that easily.- 49 replies

Wilks Set This Team Back
panthers55 replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
Here we go again with the lower draft pick because we won some games and how hurt we will be despite the fact that even our recent experience shows that picking in the top 3 is no magic formula for success given we have 2 qbs from 2018 in the top 3.. Wilkes did more to return the Panthers to the team we were known for which was tough, physical and determined than Rhule ever did. If we hire someone else who doesn't preach this keep pounding culture expect players to play much worse and look for opportunities to leave. Players like this culture and who we are. If we go offense I hope it is a guy that has connections to our history and culture.- 143 replies

Actually I heard Wilkes address that. He said that on both the touchdown catches that Henderson gave up, there was supposed to be help over the top which was late and didn't get there. He said he wouldn't have put Henderson on an island like that. He blamed poor execution not scheme. So honestly we all saw the same thing and were screaming for double coverage. Apparently he did too.....

I didn't want him initially given he had no head coach experience and worse brought his college folks along. But I had no idea what was discussed or what he could do so I supported him until I didn't. Now though I want a guy with experience as a head coach whether he is an offensive or defensive guy. I am tired of developing coordinators hoping they work out long-term. It usually takes years for them to figure out how to be a head coach.

I think Holcomb is running Wilkes scheme so I am not sure if he would be replaced. The question is whether we have the personnel to play zone. It isn't like zone can't work. Buffalo does it well. I actually prefer more press coverage and man mixed with lots of blitzing and 7 on the line making offensive line pickups difficult. I thought we would blitz Brady more but I think Wilkes went back to how Rivera would play Brady often rushing 3 or 4 and dropping 8 or 7. The flaw was backup corners starting and no Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis to call it out and protect the middle.
-
The truth is that running the ball and using zone are Wilkes tendencies because he is a defensive coach. So if you want a team that passes the ball all the time or plays man pressure then Wilkes isn't your guy. If you want a kliff Kingbury who is aggressive on 4th down but shaky in other areas then you don't want Wilkes. But many of the criticisms here are off-base.

Did you see Baker yesterday for the Rams. And I don't agree he hasn't schemed guys open. I have seen a lot of guys open lately. Getting them the ball has been another story. We have averaged 25 points a game since Darnold took over. That is above the NFL average of 22 so far in 2022 which is a little down from last year.
-
We actually got rid of Rivera because his message was old and the players had lost some faith in him. It was time for a change. Age isn't really an issue in this league but failure to change has derailed many. Interestingly McAdoo has actually shown a lot of flexibility this year. He had to get three different QBs ready and adapt the system to what they did well even if it changed week to week. This running the ball wasn't his idea, it was Wilkes. He took Darnold over five games and handed more to him as he developed. Darnold has a QB rating of 104 in his 5 games and really improved as yesterday he threw for 3 tds and 350 yards. Seems like a pretty good modern passing game to me. And McAdoo has done what we have always wanted an OC to do. Adapt the system to what the players are best at and build a game plan around that.

You are so wrong. In-game coaching can be learned or even delegated. Character and getting the best out of your players is the head coach's job as well as managing personalities and all of your personnel which is something that is more about who you are. Seems many folks seem to think head coaching is only about the 3 hours you play and not the 100 hours of preparation getting players ready for the game. And by the way I heard the commentators talking about how well Wilkes did the last of the game to get 2 possessions even if Darnold got strip sacked and Tampa got the ball.

Went to Superbowl 50 because I thought that you can't predict the future so enjoy the now. I really didn't think it would take so long to get back there but am glad I went considering what has happened since. Went to London with the Panthers because I had never been to England and killed two birds with one stone. The point? Life is too short to let things derail you and you need to keep your fandom in perspective. Take advantage of your opportunities and root like hell but at the end of the day it is only a game and nothing to lose a lot of sleep over.

I don't think folks will melt down unless we hire a guy with no head coach experience and then screw up in the draft. I could see us hiring a guy like Reich or someone who is offensive minded but has experience running a team. I don't see Tepper hiring an unproven entity again and many of the young offensive minds are just that. For every Sean McVay there are plenty of Matt Rhules and Kliff Kingsburys who have flamed out or have struggled to do much.

Good news is the latest variants going around seem to be good at evading antibodies but haven't shown to be causing folks to get seriously ill or die even in many high risk cases. So hopefully you can avoid getting it and she should be good to go in a week. My mom is 84, 200 lbs overweight and has congestive heart failure. She has had Covid at least twice and frankly had only minor symptoms.. Good luck.
-
Again way overblown. There is a rich history of NFL coaches who flamed out and were terrible. The Panthers have had their share with the most recent being Rhule. Wilkes has already shown he is a leader of men and can elevate the play of those he coaches. What he needs to show to Tepper is that he can bring in some great assistants and develop a modern day offense. But again with most folks saying he has done a good job and deserves a full time gig, you are out in left field like usual without a clue.
-
Wilkes made a great audition tape over the past 11 games. You know what you are getting both good and bad. That is more than you get with most new hires. I think as a head coach Wilkes did well. I think whether you hire him depends on his vision to move us to the next level. But as a leader he did a good job which is to get the most out of what you are given.

Ben Johnson vs Shane Steichen
panthers55 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope they have a clear plan about what they would do as a head coach. Many candidates have books they keep just for when they get an opportunity. What they did as coordinators means nothing given the head coach job is totally different from a coordinator and neither have had any head coaching experience at any level. For that matter johnson has been a coordinator for 1 year. What makes them head coach ready? They better be impressive. Doubt Tepper brings in another guy with no head coach experience.
