  1. If you purely want a defensive guy then go Ryans. I like his aggressive style more than Wilkes zone concept. Yet the Bills run a similar scheme and what takes them over the top is Josh Allen. I think your defense improves when your opponent is playing catch up.
  2. Right and if you start out at 500 after inheriting a depleted team imagine how much better you can do with an offensive guy like Reich as OC and a quality quarterback. I can only imagine that things will trend up.
  3. Then call him a first year coach with this franchise. I don't know anyone still saying he got a fair shot at Arizona or using it as justification for not hiring him this year.
  4. If I do then that is the exception, right. The problem is that history doesn't always predict success especially when you go from the macro to the individual case. The best indicator of his success is to project the amount of improvement he made and assume he will continue to do so. Aren't we assuming that if we bring in a new head coach with no experience that he will improve over time even though we have plenty of examples where that wasn't always the case like Rhule. So using that logic we wouldn't bring in anybody
  5. That Arizona is a terrible franchise and where coaches go to wither away.......
  6. Building the keep pounding physical kick you in the teeth kind of team we used to be.
  7. It isn't football experience as much as transitioning from a player to a coach. It is a big transition that some players do seamlessly while others need time to develop.
  8. All in time. Let him get his feet wet on that side of the ball.
  9. I like the Wilkes head coach / Reich offensive coordinator combo. Bring in Luke as a linebacker coach and let's do it....
  10. No but a real mark of a good coach and leader is when you get the exact same roster or in his case a depleted roster and make them perform at a substsntially higher level and that Wilkes did.
  11. The comparison is where we were to where we ended up which is clearly an improvement. Most new coaches do better their second year. Why do people keep acting like this is Wilkes ceiling instead of his floor? Now he would get to pick his players and his staff. That should make things better not worse. You make it sound reasonable that with all the issues and struggles he inherited that he would have a winning record and beat all the good teams. Get real.
  12. Winning record and playoffs. This was his rookie year. Most new coaches do better year two. So winning record and in this division playoffs are very possible.
  13. Can say the same about Wilkes and his chance for success appears better than 40%.
  14. Just because something is new doesn't mean it will be better in facts the odds say it will be worse. But everyone wants to go with what might be looking at the positives without considering the negatives. Which I find interesting after the last several years of Rhule who was everyone's hot prospect a few years ago. How many more negatives do you want.......
  15. No one is changing anything just putting it in context.
  16. Because the 3-13 was years ago and the 6-6 shows where he is today. Better indication of his current ability. And I guess not having a secondary impacted why our defense got worse. Truth is you have to nitpick to find fault when he did a great job under the circumstances.
  17. He proved a lot over the past 12 weeks and let's be real here we were God awful before he took over and went from 1-4 to 6-6 with his best player gone for the year. This isn't just me saying he did great but virtually anyone looking in. And the beef is you didn't beat good teams like the Bengals or Steelers. Give the man his due whether you want him as your coach or not.
  18. Look he went 6-6 and you can't take that away. He had 3 different qbs and lost his best player. He took a few weeks to build his program and figure things out. Truth is he took Darnold and we averaged right at 23 points a game. Which is above the average offensive points in the NFL. I can totally get wanting someone else as Wilkes in boring and thinks a punt isn't a bad thing. But he did a good job and no reason to think he won't do better in the future.
  19. But there is a greater chance that the new guy will turn out like Rhule. And no the NFL isn't geared to one year makeovers. You have a 90% chance Wilkes will be solid which he proved with this crapshow, and possible some spectacular years or you have a 60% chance your guy will be awful, a 20% chance he will be solid and 20% chance he will be spectacular in a new hire.
  20. They aren't that much better. But in Wilkes case you have real experience with the team and know he can win. With new guys with no proven experience it is a crap shoot. Still that is what folks want. Instead of taking a coach who could deliver solid but unspectacular results we go for the unknown since he could be great even if history says he wont.
  21. It cuts both way you also have Kingbury. Lovie Smith, Eberflus, Dennis Allen among others flaming out. The Daboll success is what folks will remember and say let's do it. They don't remember that most new coaches struggle particularly with no extensive NFL experience or head coach experience.
  22. What about Kingsbury, Eberflus, Smith or Dennis Allen. Lots of new and experienced coaches flaming out.
