Offensive support cast ranked 31st in the league
panthers55 replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
And you sound like every casual fan looking at stats with little context. TMJ did have 500 yards on less than 30 catches but he averaged 17 yards a catch. He was rated number 1 in go routes meaning he is a great downfield threat. With Chark as the other deep threat how often will teams load the box? It lets Thielen and Shenault and Sanders operate underneath with more space. So with an expanded role and perhaps 55 catches he could get 800 or more yards. And he is our third receiver. I could do a similar analysis with other players as well. Football is a team sport and when coached well, the sum of the parts is better than the the parts evaluated separately. And that is what is going to happen this year. For every fan who overestimates our talent, there are 10 more who are so traumatized and beaten down by the Rhule years they cant see that this is a totally different team and we are ready to have the best ride in our franchise. Yeah 2015 was amazing but we couldn't sustain it. This is starting to feel different to me. Feel free to play small ball and doubt our potential but for me I fully expect to win the division this year given the other competition. -
Offensive support cast ranked 31st in the league

I have always thought that creating a great system which is quarterback friendly was the best way to make average or even below average players better. And that coaching was as important as raw talent. So we have our first offensive head coach who is reportedly very good and a great staff with supposedly a quarterback friendly system and according to the pundits we won't do better than we did under Rhule and Wilks who were not offensively minded. Wilks didn't have any say in his personnel and he went 6-6. With this staff, even below average players previously as likely to look much improved. Guys like Tremble, Marshall, and Shenault are going to be much improved. I know it is way too early to say that much but I am going to enjoy this season flying under the radar while kicking butt more weeks than not. -

I agree that we have more talent than we are given credit for here and elsewhere. Sanders had 1259 yards on 259 carries for a 4.9 yards a carry. That is very good. And both Thielen and Chark are proven vets. We lost DJ and Foreman but other than that we are ranked similar to last year. Just the coaching changes alone should account for a higher ranking. But as I said before, the only thing that matters is how well we do on the field. I hope we ride under the radar all the way to winning the division which I think we will do. -
Ranking NFL coaches for 2023- Reich is 18
panthers55 replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
He got screwed in Indy when he had a parade of qbs after Luck retired and got little support from management. Which is why he keeps praising Fitterer and Tepper for giving him what he wants and needs. He knows how hard his job is without support from the front office. -

And after we play this year I expect his ranking to improve. We are really under the radar this year which traditionally has been good for us. -
https://www.google.com/amp/s/sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/panthers-offensive-supporting-cast-ranked-133046847.html Maybe this will be like 2015 when our last number 1 draft pick took the worse receiver corps all the way to the Superbowl.

https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/gm-report/where-frank-reich-ranks-as-an-nfl-head-coach. I can surely see that some of the folks ahead of him deserve to be there. But Payton is number 3 with a win percentage of 57% and a playoff record of 11-11 or 50%. I have always thought he was not nearly as good as others think.
-
On a positive note by the middle of the year we will be called a surprise team for playing much better than predicted or we will be like in 2015 when we routinely were called the worse team that kept winning.
-
Interesting that before the draft we were ranked 25th and after the draft we slipped to 28th despite getting the number 1 pick in the draft. Either other teams supposedly improved more than we did or once again we are being largely discounted.

Hard to defend Henderson after the Tampa game. And I don't think we need a stud at our 4th corner as much as competent. Apparently that is asking too much.
-
Obviously we need Horn to stay healthy which has been an issue. And honestly I have never been a big Jackson fan. He seems to play smaller than he is. But why Henderson has sucked is very disappointing. He looks lost at times which I attribute to coaching. Maybe I am wrong. But it seems to me other teams can plug and play guys in the secondary and we rarely have had a depth guy step up and play well since Norman left. And other guys have been here for years but still struggle. I would like to blame Rhule and the fact we didn't even have a full compliment of secondary coaches last season but it seems an ongoing problem. While teams do struggle without their top starters they don't always go from good to horrid when the depth guys go in. I just don't buy the argument we can't develop secondary talent.
-
Maybe it is just me but if this staff is as good as advertised then why can't they coach up our secondary to play better than they have in the past. Why will they suck because they have struggled in the past? It isn't usually physical skill or ability as you don't get this far without ability. So if it is technique and practice we should have several folks who show a big improvement this year.

Any studies comparing different types compared to rate of noncontact injuries. How else do they determine what is good or bad??
-
There are better and worse types of artificial turf. We should as least have the best kind. I don't think we do from what I have read.
-
Most games are Saturday but there are a few that are Wednesday and then Saturday in the same week. And this is not a regular yard. And no they didn't have weeks to prepare. We played a Saturday game on turf and less than a week layer we did grass and shifted it back again in less than a week to turf.
-
Two or three concerts a year shouldn't stop us from having grass. It isn't like they do something every week.
-
We have 2 home matches in August, 2 in September and 2 in October. So there won't be a lot of degradation to the field if it was grass. Most soccer teams in the world play on grass and I have not seen more damage in soccer versus football. If you look at the cleats of football shoes versus soccer which one tears up the field more?? Football is a lot more destructive to the field than soccer and the sod on the sidelines can be easily replaced for soccer games if needed just like we did for the Chelsea game. No there is no good reason not to have grass.
-
With all the changes it is predictable we will be seen as not very good. I hope we can catch some fire and surprise some folks this year.
-
Burns is what? 25. He isn't elite but he is a good pass rusher and is learning to be much better against the run. He is a probowler and will get paid as such. As long as we manage the guaranteed money we can pay him a boatload which he will see if he keeps improving or may not see all of it if he drops off. I wish more contracts were incentive based.
-
I thought he made a good point about coaching. We have the best head coach and staff in the division. We went 6-6 with Wilks who got stuck with who we had and was shorthanded in the secondary both coaches and players. If as Cowherd said that coaching was 30-40 % of winning and we have equal talent and superior coaches then it isn't too crazy to predict a winning season even with Young at QB. With Dalton as backup if Bryce gets hurt we can still make some noise.
-
With both guards potentially out for a while, we have to have swing players like Erving to shore up everything in the event of setbacks or injury. He doesn't suck............

Dang.. I guess we made a huge mistake?
panthers55 replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
So apparently you not only have poor comprehension but no ability to infer meaning and determine what he was saying. There was no.leap just a lack of awareness ion your part to the obvious. And each response just makes you look more obtuse. Let it go.- 85 replies

Another one falls into the trap that is Sam Darnold

The exact same thing we need to do for Young so he succeeds right off the bat. -

The article quoting him saying that. Reading comprehension isn't your friend. He would pick Baker over those three and he thinks he has a better deal. Since clearly you don't see what seems obvious to me, I won't go back and forth over a player I didn't like and he isn't a Panther anymore. I don't care what he does unless he plays against us and I hope he sucks that game. Done with this discussion.- 85 replies
