Also, if Brady and Rhule are what they say, then getting a QB with ability is a big deal. Hopefully he can be coached up. But the guy definitely has an arm on him. No doubt about that.

My opinion is that the cap isn’t really that big of a deal for us at this point in time. The most important thing in a rebuild should be draft picks theoretically. We are rebuilding right now, not trying to compete. Of course cap is always important, but more so when you have your team essentially set and are now trying to retain talent or add a piece or two to get you over the hump. This is why I’m a fan of the Darnold deal. We didn’t give up tons of draft capital. Hopefully Darnold pans out. I still think he could be a solid QB. But if not, at least we are retaining our draft capital. That’s huge for us right now.

You don’t know what this move is yet. He hasn’t taken a single snap in training camp. Hence my pointing out the over reaction. For both sides. He may be a bust here. He may not. Coming out of the draft he was certainly more highly regarded than Lance. And if Wilson goes to the Jets, I highly doubt he has success there because it’s a garbage staff and a garbage offense. But again. We didn’t give up very much for Darnold. Calling this move successful or a failure right now is just stupid. I don’t care how football smart you are, it’s foolish.

Maybe. But it certainly feels more like you didn’t get what you wanted and so now you are going to moan. Maybe Darnold isn’t the answer but maybe Wilson, Lance and Fields aren’t either. You’ve lost faith in the staff that has been here a total of one season, had one (damn good) draft and out performed everyone’s expectations. He should have won defensive rookie of the year. Darnold is at the very least an upgrade to Teddy and allows us to hopefully draft a franchise LT at 8. We’re we hoping to make a playoff run with the cap space we wasted this year? Cause Teddy is gone next season and Darnold the season after that. Seems a bit out of place to worry about that right now.

That’s fair. I think I’m just damn tired of the negativity on this board. People have been doom and gloom on here for 2 damn years now and I’m just tired of it. Not even saying you, but in general. I’m tired of the “we blew it” before we’ve even made it to the draft as some mods keep crying. Maybe we look back on this and say it was a bad trade. But I would like to at least see 15 minutes of football before we write everything off and slit our wrists, you know?

You would have preferred mortgaging the future. Fair enough. Some of us feel mortgaging the future on an unproven isn’t better management. Might even be worse. Darnold may not work out. But I prefer trying this for a 2nd as opposed to trading three 1sts for a guy that may not even be as highly regarded as Darnold was coming out. Will it work? I dunno. Not sure Lance or Fields would have either. At least this one won’t cost us 3 drafts to figure that out.

I think that’s unfair. I don’t know that he’s the answer but I do not believe he’s really been put in a position to succeed. As mentioned numerous times, Tannehill comes to mind. I’m not saying Darnold is that. But there are definitely similarities. And for what it’s worth, he was much more highly regarded coming into the league a few years ago.

I agree with you completely. We should be picking 1 or 2 but I’m just glad we didn’t mortgage the future for Darnold. That’s what trading up would have looked like. This is a better gamble imo even if it doesn’t work out.
