In my ideal world for Cam, I would actually LOVE for him to say "okay, maybe I am not going to be a starting QB anymore, but I still want a ring" and join the Ravens. That playbook could get really interesting. They have lost Dobbins and Edwards and Cam could be a duel threat hybrid RB. Can run the option, take direct snaps. Imagine lining up Lamar Jackson and Cam in the backfield and making the defense try to figure out wtf is going on. That would be fun to watch! Of course there is no indication that the Ravens are even interested. But damn that could be really fun.

Way too much is being made of the vaccination status. The reality is that they drafted Mac Jones in the first round to be the QB of the future. And he showed enough competence under center to warrant taking the starting job week 1. You can hypothesize any reason you like for Cam getting cut, but the reality is that this was always Mac's team when the coaching staff felt he was ready based on where they picked him. That is no fault of Cam's. It's just the reality. Lance and Fields probably SHOULD be starting week 1 just the same. But BB has the balls to pull the trigger. We all know its Lance and Fields team and at some point this season they will take over. More teams should honestly just rip off the bandaid and go for it. Its not like Jimmy G and Andy Dalton don't also realize that they won't be the starting QBs by season end. Everyone knows.

Yeah I don’t know how you can take that any other way than positive really. Being willing to own it shows that he isn’t putting blame on anyone else (when in all honesty there was plenty of blame to go around in NY for Darnolds poor play) and that he’s a leader. Players will follow someone who is willing to accept blame for the teams shortcomings. It doesn’t mean that Darnold pans out, but it definitely means that he isn’t taking the easy way out for his failure. He’s not blaming coaches, players around him, play calling. He’s not making excuses for himself. And that is a great sign and causes a great ripple effect in the locker room.

I don’t know which is more laughable. The fact that some nerds simulated 20,000 madden games to make their projections with or the fact that some users here are getting triggered at Matt Rhule because of it. Some of these sims have been fairly accurate for projecting winners etc in the past. There is no way in fug we are the worst team in the league though. Absolutely no chance.

I don’t know what “y’all” camp you are attempting to put me in, but I’m obviously referring to him as a starting QB. The context is in the MVP talk mentioned that some here claimed he was still capable of. I have literally supported Cam since we drafted him. I own one active players jersey. It’s Cams. But my opinion hasn’t changed since his injuries. What made Cam great was his ability to run like a RB and stretch the field with a cannon arm. Injuries hindered both of those abilities which were his strengths. And his career has never been the same.

One or two people on this forum were still claiming Cam would be an MVP candidate this year lol. I absolutely love Cam, but it was pretty clear his career was pretty much over 3 years ago. Still. Some just can’t let the golden memories go.

This week I learned that I'm an idiot!

A little late getting to it this week. So much I learned, so much I had to reflect on. I just needed time to take it all in and process it. This week on the Huddle I learned that people incorporate the word 'coddle' in their vocabulary way more than I ever realized. The National Institute of Words and Grammar recorded a 1.3% nationwide increase in the words use with relation to Sam Darnold. Speaking of Darnold... This week I learned he is being coddled and I learned exactly why. Many here had been wondering why he wasn't taking many reps in preseason. Indeed some suggested that the coaching staff had no idea what they were doing and were in for a shock. I suspect many of those likely speak from coaching experience, helping their local U13 leagues for many years now. Perhaps it's time they send an email to Rhule and Co. cause boy do they need it. Darnold finally got to play a full half... and he looked BAD! Darnold went 19/25 for 162 and 2 TDs. That sounds decent on the surface. Thats a completion percentage of 76%. Granted he did that against backups, but still decent numbers. But it wasn't the positives anyone should be focusing on when it comes to Darnold. When it comes to Darnold, its much better to focus on the positives of Justin Fields and the negatives of Sam Darnold. The important to do when evaluating Darnolds performance is to go back and watch his eyes. You may have to adjust your TV screen to really get a good look at where Darnold is looking, but if you do you will find he locked on to his receivers and stared them down. Every. Single. Time. You will also notice he looked a bit uncomfortable when under pressure from the opposing defense. While this may be okay for a Division II school QB, a NFL QB needs to put that pressure behind him. And perhaps the biggest scare of all, some here have suggested Darnold still sees ghosts and was even seeing them as recently as last Saturday. This is the Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis. This is the NFL. Darnold needs to keep that "I see dead people" bullsh*t in his house because that isn't going to cut it in this league. We also learned this is the greatest draft class in Panthers history. Obviously its still early, but the writing is on the wall. We drafted at least 5, possibly 6 all pros in last years draft. Many were skeptics at the time. Screaming on the Huddle that trading back was stupid. "I want studs, not jags!" they said. "A dime is better than two nickels!" other proclaimed. Some even said "I would trade ALL the picks for a decade for Zach Wilson!" Others were more calm about the draft strategy and simply said "$&#*@%! JUSTIN FIELDS!!!!@!!" But it turns out while there are many more suitable NFL caliber Head Coaches on this board, there may not be as many NFL caliber GMs. Trading back seems to have landed us a perfect draft class. Just three games into the preseason its pretty clear that we have never done better. Horn and Marshall are essentially locks to the NFL HOF. Marshall has already been awarded the PFF Medal of Honor and Outstanding Achievement Award. And rumor has it Jaycee Horn has already been offered a 5 year $25 million dollar endorsement deal with Smart Locks Home Security for his outstanding preseason play. Others, while less likely to go to Canton, but still locks as future all pros include Tommy Tremble, Brady Christensen, Shi Smith and of course the immovable object, Deonte Brown. It still feels early to claim this as a best draft class ever though I hope and pray its true. I think... of course drafting that many all pros could be the very last thing we need. How will we ever get a talented QB if we constantly keep drafting such talented players after all? But maybe Fitt does know a thing or two about trading back and finding talent while adding assets. Still, one has to wonder if it was all a fluke. Regardless of the talent he identified, he passed on Fields. And that is the most interesting point to bring up. Was this our best draft class ever? Or was it our worst ever? I would say "time will tell" but I feel rather confident the Huddle will tell me long before time does. We still have a week and a half before week 1. Maybe I'll learn the answer to that question before then. We are almost there everyone. Football is in the air. We are almost fugging there. /s

Lock has a stronger arm but that’s about it. Which doesn’t say much for him.

I feel the only way it’s lower than mid draft is if Darnold ends up being pretty decent. If he’s really just bad then I’ll be surprised to see us picking below the top 12. Who knows? Ultimately I was just in favor of hanging onto early draft picks. We didn’t have to give up a first. And I believe Darnold can still be salvaged. So that was really an ideal trade from my perspective.

This is probably true. The problem with Stafford and why I was against getting him was the cost. If the idea is we are still rebuilding and looking for our guy, giving up a future 1st seems counter productive. And that’s coming from a bigger Stafford fan than most. If you are trading away a 1st, it better be for a proven player in the mid 20s. And if you are trading away multiple 1sts for a single player then you are just begging for punishment imo. Between the value of rookie contracts and the likelihood of getting 3 starters with those three picks, I’m not sure anyone in the league not named Mahomes is worth that kind of haul. I’m glad we found a solution that didn’t cost us a 1 even if it’s temporary

I was stunned seeing a few people calling him a 3-4 stringer. The ONLY conclusion I can draw is people see his tiny frame and think “that dude can’t be a WR2. He doesn’t have an NFL body” But his stats don’t lie. He’s played for two very bad teams so far in his career and has played very well in spite of that. I don’t just think he’s a WR2, I think he’s in the top half of WR2s in the league. But maybe that’s my homerism coming out. But Robby is legit.

Yeah, I quickly got excited about the potential of Cam and I wasn’t really a Cam hater. But I felt his chances of reaching his potential were slim and I’m embarrassed to say I was all aboard the Patrick Peterson train that draft.

I’m not worried about DJ. I understand that Brady may have a HC opportunity open up soon, but as long as he’s here I think it’s very safe to say he wants 3 very viable WRs. That’s part of his game plan. This team isn’t moving on from DJ because we extended Robby and have good rookie WRs. The concert is foreign to a team that’s struggled to have more than one competent WR (and often times not even that many) on its roster for the last decade, but I think it’s pretty safe to say this offense intends to have 3+ dangerous big play WRs going forward and will prioritize them.
