RUMOR: Panthers looking to move up to 16-20th pick
Matthias replied to @bobbyagnese's topic in Carolina Panthers
Amari Cooper is the only guy worth moving up for in this draft, and we should only do that if he falls to 11. -
Kiper is starting to hype up Perriman. What are the chances...
Matthias replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
I guess my argument would be regarding the ceiling of the receivers in question. Everyone agrees Cooper is the surest WR in the draft. Yet many are looking at Kevin White's ceiling as a reason to pick him over Cooper. The same could be said for Parker, Perriman, Beckham, maybe Strong, some might even say Coates. Personally, I believe Cooper will be the best out of them all throughout their respective careers. Yet sometimes these GMs start thinking too much. -

Ah, I forgot about Strong. The interesting thing to note is all these guys ran good 40 times. Out of all of them, Cooper is the smallest. No one expected Aaron Rodgers to fall as far as he did, and he plays a much more important position. I guess if Cooper does start to fall pass 15, should we move up to get him or should we gamble and wait? -

Matthias replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. I doubt he will be there, but who knows. If a big guy runs a low 40 time, sometimes teams fall in love with that. -
All year everyone pretty much knew Amari Cooper was going to be the first receiver picked in the draft. Yet after Kevin White's combine workout, many now believe he will be the first wideout taken, perhaps by the Raiders. This morning I heard Kiper on Sportscenter talking about the possibility of the Rams taking Perriman with the 10th pick. Now my personal opinion is Cooper will still be the first receiver taken. I don't care about White's workout. The Raiders would be absolutely fools to pass up Amari Cooper just because a guy was a little bigger and a little faster. Yet like I said, now Perriman is being hyped up because he's "a little bigger and a little faster" (At least in terms of workouts) Well, DeVante Parker is "a little bigger" and about as fast. It's also possible for a team to fall in love with Dorial Green-Beckham. He's definitely bigger and the only questions around him are off the field. If it weren't for that, he most likely would have been the first receiver off the board. What I'm trying to say is, if Kevin White and Breshad Perriman are taking in the top 10, and Copper falls, what are the chances he will still be on the board when we pick when guys like Parker and Beckham are still floating around in the teens?

Cam's reaction to this signing......
-
Well, this is nothing but another year of Getts going dumpster diving in the off season. We will have to wait until the draft for him to do real work.
-
Bad signing. People keep saying he will at least be good depth, well, couldn't we have signed just about anyone else for depth? This guy's ceiling has been reached. We need guys that will actually compete anyway, not just be in for depth. You can't have depth if you don't have starters. Honestly though, what in the world did they see in Martin's game that made them claim him?

Greg Hardy Could Receive A One Or Two-Game Suspension
Matthias replied to NcPsa10's topic in Carolina Panthers
All the news people wanted Hardy to get at least 6 games or more. So they will probably sound off if he only gets two games. -
Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle
Matthias replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
He could have simply said Oher could compete for the LT position, and that they are still looking things over. Last year they were saying some of the same things with Bell. Ultimately we went in with Bell and that was a disaster. In my eyes it's like history is starting to repeat itself. Besides that, I wanted to fill a need in free agency, so we could do things like going BPA in the draft if the guys at "need" spots didn't fit our bill when it is our turn to pick. As it is now, we are going to have a lot of needs heading into the draft. I think that is the wrong way to go about things. -
Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle
Matthias replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Let's say I would be more active in pursuing a LT than Getts. In fact, if I had things my way last year, this wouldn't even be a problem. I would have let Hardy walk in free agency, and would have signed Veldheer. Right now, I would be following Jake Long and seeing where he was at. I would be looking at Hairston (sp) from the Bills, even possibly looking to see if the Vikings would take a conditional late round pick for Matt Kalil. The one thing I would not being doing, is saying Oher could be the answer at LT. -
Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle
Matthias replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
See this is the kind of stuff I was talking on yesterday. By the way, this crud didn't start with Gettlemen. Hurney didn't actively seek out to replace Otah. He thought Byron Bell could suitably fill in at RT for the time being until they could truly find a RT. Yet, this is leaps and bounds worst than the procrastination of Hurney in finding a RT. G-man is being stubborn when it comes to replacing Jordan Gross, Cam's main protector. I hope Cam has a memory like Eli Manning. Manning was sacked and threw many interceptions because of pressure, and he always came back as if nothing happened. It didn't effect him. Cam will have to have that same mentality, because he is about to get lit up like the sky on the fourth. Although the biggest difference would be Cam takes hits when he runs. It's a downright shame Gettlemen refuses to get Cam a LT, even though he's taking double the amount of hits than any other QB since he's come into the league. That's downright criminal. -
The Panthers absolutely need to give Jake Long an offer
Matthias replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't dispute that, but there's no question he failed in terms of free agency last year. He shouldn't have franchised Hardy, knowing full well he wouldn't be able to bring him back long term. He should have signed an OT, particularly my guy Veldheer, but instead thought Bell of all people would be a stud essentially. Of course he then went out and signed Harper and DeCoud, though I admit I thought DeCoud would be reliable. This year I'm giving him a little more leeway, but I don't like the Oher signing. It reeks of "depending on Bell to be something" all over again. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Gettlemen brought Bell back, and was satisfied with that concerning the OT spots. I trust him concerning drafting, but I'm a bit concerned with his free agency skills right now. -

Matthias replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
Of course I'm not the one to complain about those things, but we have to admit we were lucky. I imagine having the same record next year won't amount to the same results. We were a much better team with Gross anchoring the left side. True. Though the Rams have been reported of being interested in bringing Long back under a lesser deal. So if we were looking at him, I'd at least put in a call. -

Matthias replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
My biggest thing about this is, we trusted Gettlemen last year. Where did that get us? We were stuck with a wasted 13 million dollars in cap space, and two OTs that couldn't block traffic. This year our OT situation hasn't improve much. What I really fear is having Olsen in on max protection, and we never using his skills to it's max potential. We got lucky last year as far as making it to the playoffs. So my thing is let's cut the games and bring in a proven OT. Yeah, he's been injured, but we are desperate if you ask me. -

Matthias replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well like others have said, we could probably put in incentives or give him a two-three year deal where we could release him the following year if it doesn't work. I do think we would have to have a better offer than other teams because as much as I hate to say it, free agents aren't necessarily attracted to us yet. Also to everyone else concerning the retirement talk, I've heard the Rams would be interested in having Long come back on a lesser deal. If they still would like to have him, perhaps they still think he could play if he could come back healthy. -

Ah, I didn't know he was considering retirement. That would suck. -

We cannot go into the draft with two huge question marks at both WR and OT. Now my guy, Bulaga, was taken off the market before the games begun. Nothing we could have done about that. Even went back to GB for less money. When we look at the receiver department, there really is no one we like out there. The biggest receiver name that will come available perhaps later today in Dwayne Bowe, is not a burner. Plus for the past couple of seasons he has stunk up the joint. So I'm telling you guys right now, we cannot enter this draft with KB still be our only receiver on the roster, and flipping Mr. Blindside himself as our starting LT. We need to put in a call to Long's agent, and bring his butt here. Now I know the guy is a little injury prone these last couple of seasons, but he is the only LT out there that will add something to our O-line. I was willing to pay Bulaga in the 7-8 million a year range, and I have no problem offering that to Long. As long as he could stay healthy, he would be the best LT we've had since Gross of course. -
I'm telling yall right here, if the Jets can land Cromartie, they might be a formidable team. They have Brandon Marshall as a solid number one, and Decker can hold down the number two receiver spot. They just need a decent QB. Probably don't have that in Geno, but perhaps they may draft the QB out of Baylor in the second round.

If that's true, the ain'ts will once again be the dumpster fire of the NFC South for years to come.

Sam Bradford + picks traded to Philly for Nick Foles

Man, and you guys wanted to bring Chip Kelly here as our next coach. Guy would have ran our organization into the ground with his experiments, and he would have traded away Cam by the way. -

Bad deal for the Eagles. -
Hardy's definitely a difference maker, but I think we can win a championship without him. Earlier in the year, we missed his presence, but we straightened it out as the season progressed. Our biggest problems were on the offensive line, the lack of speed at the receiver position, and Charles Godfrey. We corrected the Godfrey at nickel problem, now all we need is a speedy receiver and a good LT. Besides if we did bring Hardy back, it will mostly be a one year deal, and he will miss more than half of it sitting on his couch at home.
