That sounds about right to me. That means Canales is still here, Morgan starts getting some W’s in the draft… and the entire scouting department has been replaced by next year

Some of these threads, man... "We aren't far away" - that's just delusional. It has been a systematic deconstruction of a once good football team since Tepper bought it. Year after year, through every impulsive move being the wrong move, missing on basically every draft pick, and one year rentals that get the hell outta here as soon as they can, we are realistically 3-5 years away from being competitive consistently. Anyone that thinks differently needs to be medicated. So, at this point, who gives a poo? Why would we hope to win? Do you really think that Andy (albeit a serviceable backup in his golden years) would make a deep playoff run? That is just not how this league is set up anymore. We need alllllllllll the draft capital possible to rebuild this entire team and yes, draft a new QB, take as many swings at that as we have to. This league is set up to allow the top QBs to shine. We are still on the hunt for our next longterm answer while being negative on the picks to do so. I see so many people clamoring for Bryce now that I feel like I live in an alternate dimension. We have seen enough. He is too small for this league. There is no way he is going to magically grow 6 inches, add more velocity into his throws, and get faster as he gets older. He was the wrong pick, he's a bust, it's OK to admit it. The once stout defense is a shell of itself filled with journeymen that are all replaceable besides Horn and Brown. Although, I would absolutely be willing to take some picks for Horn, because again, who gives a poo? We aren't going to be winning for a good while. The mindset here needs to switch from panic moves to who gives a poo. Winning anything at this point is more of a negative in the long run than the short term dopamine hit it will give you because none of these players will still be here when this eventually gets turned around. Enjoy your weekends with your family, watch other teams, do ANYTHING other than be invested into this current dumpster fire. If you live in a state that allows gambling like I do, put a bunch of money on the running backs, quarterbacks, and moneyline of whoever is playing against us and at least make some cash off of this disaster. But stooooop complaining about not winning. You drank the koolaid leading into the season, fine, but this was written on the wall since last season ended.

For the first time in a few years I let out some fist pumps out war cries in the airport watching this game before my flight. What an amazing difference in every level with a competent QB behind center.
-
Yeah, that was the correct move then.
-
Who? Bryce? He wasn’t getting past 2, the Bama hype machine was in full effect. Someone was going to end up in this position no matter what.
-
Could be, but who knows? He might not be worth anything at this point. But keeping him around is only going to create cancer internally.
-
I just can’t get behind this. We already had the Darnold experience here and I really don’t want to revisit that. He’s starting out strong there just like he did here, but let’s see what he looks like come week 8.
-
Ehhhhh I wouldn’t be so sure. There’s always a way.
-
That’s probably the best route. Secretly shop him to see what the market offers. I’d still make a push for Howell. Anyone on the couch right now isn’t going to come in and perform better than the two other QBs on the roster.
-
I agree about getting him in FA, my only concern is Andy making it through the rest of this season. Our draft situation is so interesting, and not in a good way. We have holes everywhere with no cornerstone players (maybe Brown and Horn). We need to do some magical drafting where we hit on more than round 1 or round 1 & 2, with everyone after that being dogshit. That being said, fill glaring holes this coming draft with BPA and no overreaching. The following year we target a QB and more BPA. 3 years from now, if all goes right, we’re back.

I don’t know, this entire thing *could look so much different with a decent QB behind our legit OL. Might be the situation Canales needs.
-
That’s basically Howell. Send Bryce to Miami or LA for hopefully a 2nd or 3rd (might be wishful thinking), offer Seahawks a 5th for Sam and wash our hands of this.
-
I mean, the writing is on the wall. If you think Bryce will be coming back out to take another snap in a Panthers jersey, I have some amazing moon real estate to sell ya.
-
He has all the tools, and I’ve seen him slinging it with the best of them. Almost made a comeback against one of the top teams last year (don’t remember which one). He would be the perfect placeholder for us for the next few years.

Given the current situation, what happens at the moment if Andy gets hurt? Or, how much does Andy have left in the tank? Does Bryce come in? Do they throw Plummer in there? I would honestly prefer neither of those options happen. I would trade for Sam Howell, currently the backup to Geno in Seattle. I caught a few of his games for the commanders and was thoroughly impressed by him. He got sacked a ton, but I would put that on their OL and Rivera more than I would him. As a matter of fact, what if he balled out here behind a decent to actually good OL? Andy is on the tail end of his career and I’m not sure he would serve as the best stop gap for 1, 2, or maybe even 3 seasons while we rebuild this team at almost every position. We could solidify the QB position for a few years, be competitive, and maybe even surprise some people while we retool the shed for what I would assume to be a very minimal cost. Once the fan base got a good sample size of what Howell could do here, I believe the pot that feels like it’s about to boil over would simmer down.

Assuming it's done do you select a qb this year or wait?

Sam Howell would be an ideal get. He looked very good in the time I saw him playing in Washington. -
How did nobody catch this before drafting him?

Such a bad look -

That’s very true. I was just dumbfounded when I read that. I guess that’s been the Bryce/Tepper effect, I’ve just been checked out for a while now. -
This was a Reddit thread today that I stumbled upon. Did anyone catch this before the season started?? Red flag central. After the rookie season you had, saying you just took the summer off and watched YouTube and Netflix to just “chill” is the opposite of what I want in my teams QB. The faintest glimmer of empathy I had vanished when I read this. The real reason for his regression? He lays it all out there for you to read. He’s a unserious football player.

I am fully aware that I am going to get annihilated for this comment. Hindsight is 20/20, etc. Buuuuuuut... we would not be in this position, and the fandom would not be in the cellar if... we drafted CJ Stroud. I hope I am wrong, I like Bryce as a person, but if he cannot lead the team this year to wins and show major improvements, it is time to reset that position again. This league is built around the QB, hard stop. If we do not have a top 5 QB, or someone with intangibles that separate him from the rest of the middle to cellar dwellers, nothing is going to improve. Bryce is like what would happen if Cam accidentally stepped in the path of the "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" ray gun. Going from Cam to Bryce, no wonder people are starting to check out.

Kind of hard to gauge anything at the moment when we don't play our starters in the preseason

Vrabel interviewing with carolina Thursday

Again, maybe you're right. All I know is that the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing and expecting different results. We all have such a bad taste in our mouths from last season, anything that stays within that mold is going to require an act of god to get people to not always draw comparisons, myself included. -

To all the people wanting Morris or Vrabel - WHYYYYYYY do we want retreads? This is mind blowing to me. Let's at least follow the trends of what is working at the moment and bring in a successful OC from somewhere. -

Sure, there might be some truth to that but I only see 8-9, maybe 10 wins at best with him at the helm. Nothing exciting about another coach that was just let go. I guess what I am getting at is, this just appears like a lean into mediocrity just to get out of being pure poo like we are right now. -

Not sure why everyone is amped about this. Is he a better coach than what we have had so far? Maybe. But, he's still in the same boat Reich was when we hired him - recently let go. Not sure we are learning anything by making this move.
