  1. Still doesn't mean that they felt Slater would have been a reach at 8. If those rumors are true, it just means they valued having more picks to pick up more cheap young talent vs any one player in the top ten or so guys. Beyond that, rumors are just rumors and should always be taken with a grain of salt.
  2. And you know this how? Have Rhule and Co shown you were they had him ranked? Have they told you what positions they valued in what order? Just because they drafted a CB and have prioritized defense over offense doesn't mean they felt Slater was a reach.
  3. Oline pickings have been getting slim for years. They aren't the sexy positions that get the stats and media attention.
  4. Could you imagine all the damage to property if it was raining all pro LT's? I don't know if the draft didn't fall the way the FO wanted or not. To me, it seems they valued certain players more than others. That's true for every team though. I said during the draft I would have taken Slater over Horn. That's personal preference though. The FO valued Horn more than Slater and that's who they drafted. As for the rebuild, it's year two. There is still a long way to go before the team is ready to compete.
  5. A good front four on defense can mask CB play. The Panthers have done that for years. That said, CB was almost as big a need as LT and had been ignored for as long if not longer while the prior regimes kept investing in the front four. Also, there are no shutdown corners anymore. The rules have seen to that. And even if you want to say there are shutdown corners, it's way too early in Horn's career to claim he is one. One good performance against a first year rebuilding team with a rookie QB doesn't mean it's time to crown him. And since I never get tired of this,
  6. Slater wouldn't have been a reach. By most accounts he was 1B to Sewell's 1A in the draft and considered on a higher level than the other OT prospects.
  7. Yep. He's had two drafts and two free agent periods to add more talent to the OL. Granted, we don't know everyone they targeted, so they may have just struck out on who they really wanted.
  8. I would be perfectly happy with that. It's been a very long time since the Panthers have had that level of CB play.
  9. I thought it was a mostly good performance. Going conservative in the second half was baffling. Most of the coaches were just in college two years ago. Surely they haven't forgotten that you don't let up. A two score lead isn't what it once was in the NFL.
  10. *Enters thread* *Sees direction of thread* It's Monday alright.
  11. Most of these coaches were just coaching college ball a couple years ago. They shouldn't have forgotten that you don't let up and go conservative, especially with less than a 14 point lead. The second half gameplan was a head scratcher.
  12. Yeah, some of the folks here are way too quick to overreact to every single thing.
  13. I agree that people should be happy with the win, but to be fair this was the "lowly" Jets and the Panthers struggled in the second half. It's fair to point out issues that people see.
  14. A lot of folks convinced themselves this was a playoff team instead of a team in the second year of a rebuild before training camp even started.
  15. This is reminding me of some of the first week college football games.
  16. They were both fighting for the ball. It was a decent no call.
  17. Best thing that could be said about that punt return is the returner caught the ball cleanly, didn't cough it up, and there were no flags.
  18. Going by how they did Teddy, I think they would cut bait with Darnold quickly. I don't mind that they only brought in Darnold. The coaches must have thought he was young enough to rehab and didn't want him to have to look over his shoulder at the new draftee. Rhule probably didn't want the media headache of having Darnold and a new rookie on the roster at the same time if Darnold sucks with the media asking when the rookie will start either.
  19. This seems to be the NBA fan thing. I've seen tons of NBA fans, especially Hornet fans, complain about past drafts and why their team didn't draft player X when he was available instead of whoever was actually drafted. If is one of the smallest words, yet it is also the biggest question. Don't worry about who was passed over in favor of whoever was taken. Marty always drafted well in the first round, yet nobody graded his drafts on just that one pick. If Fitts missed on Horn, yet hit on everyone else when people look back at this draft, he had a successful one. If he pulled a Marty and nailed Horn, yet flubbed on everyone else, he had a bad draft.
  20. This guy? Well he is the ghost with the most. He might make a good QB in Chicago.
  21. I've always said Darnold should get the chance to be the guy once he was traded for. I still believe that and think he has to prove the FO was correct in believing in him. I hope Darnold works out as it means the Panthers can start loading up on Oline talent and the other holes on the roster. But I'm also prepared for him not to work out and the Panthers being on the lookout for a QB again next year. And yes, a QB should take what is there including a check down to CMC if that is the best option. My point is that the stats don't tell the whole story. By themselves, they look impressive. But they were against backups and guys that won't be on a NFL roster this year and he still struggled at times during that half. If you don't look at it as a fan, but as someone with no interest in the Panthers, then it wasn't confidence inspiring.
  22. My only question is why are there so many of them? It wasn't that long ago that there was maybe four captains total. Have we entered the Oprah days? And everybody gets to be a captain?
