  1. Paradis on rolling skates against 2nd string scares me. Dude was pretty bad.
  2. I loved it. I would pay money to listen to Smitty call games. Mr. Jenkins told me don't mess with Agent 89.
  3. I'm wondering if we'll run any power runs at all with a FB this year. I'm assuming if we do it'll be Tremble but have we run any in the preseason. I thought we ran some I-formation on those goal line stuffs against the Ravens. Part of the fun I have every year in Madden in recreating the Panthers and running the same plays they do on Sunday.
  4. My Pillow guy told me Sam Darnold is a fraud and he said he has the numbers to back it up.
  5. I understand that in the past the LT takes care of the blind side but in today's NFL I've also heard repeatedly that there is less and less difference between the RT and LT spots. If this is true then why not try Brady at LT? I know he has short arms but screw the metrics. If the boy can play the position, let him. He's been at LT a ton in college. Moton has pretty much been the RT for all of his time. Why work so hard to flip them? Are the measurements on a player really that important?
  6. #90 Peppers - Will be a 1st ballet HOF. #88 Smith - Greatest Panthers WR and possible HOF. #59 Kuechly - Greatest Panthers LB and possible HOF. #1 Newton - Greatest Panthers QB and possible HOF. (if for nothing more than being the best rushing QB in the history of the league)
  7. Nice. Now I know who to study up on so I can be properly pissed off if we don't take them where draft mocks have them slotted.
  8. My point is we had Jon Beason when we took Luke and we had just signed Justin Hartwig the year before when we took Kalil. J-Stew when we had D-Lo. You don't pass on good talent just because at that exact moment you don't "need" it.
  9. Who did we have at MLB when we picked Kuechly? Who did we have at C when we picked Kalil? I can't tell you how many times we drafted a player we already had a starter had and Panther fans freaked out.
  10. I love the pick but how long are his arms? I think that is a make it or break it stat for LT.
  11. Plenty of great talent still there and Rhule would know if better than most being only a few years removed from the college game.
  12. Of course not but Brown was rated higher on their board and has not exactly been a bust and looks to be smart considering the DT class of this years draft.
  13. Yes, I really want to improve the oline but do not reach for one. If an olinemen is the best player or equal to the best player(s) on your board then yes take him because it's a big need. But if one of those S or WR drop and you have them rated much higher then take them and don't look back.
  14. I don't really disagree but you can't go chasing a franchise LT in the first round of every draft. That's the definition of reaching. If Sewell had fallen one more spot we'd have taken him. And having Cam allowed them a luxury, right or wrong, to look at other positions.
  15. I'm not as "the sky is falling" if we don't get more offensive line talent. We were dead in the middle last year (17th) in sacks given up and our scheme doesn't ask for linemen to hold up for long periods of time. I am by no way saying we shouldn't draft a linemen at 2 and / or 3 but I really don't like passing on talent for need. I don't want to get a linemen just to proclaim we've got a franchise left tackle. I'm a big believer is setting up the team to go into battle as is before a single player is drafted and then look to improve in the best possible ways depending on how the draft falls.
  16. Rounds 1,2,3 picks each year for 20 years. That is 60 picks. There are 22 starters between offense and defense. We have taken 11 offensive linemen. That is 18.33 percent of the time. Eight of them, Gross, Wharton, Mathis, Kalil, Otah, Silatolu, Turner and Moton we average to elite starters. Granted one can argue Silatolu and Mathis ended up being a late bloomer with the Eagles. Nelson, Butler, Little were busts. Little could still turn into something but I doubt it. That is a pretty good draft record and proof that we have not really neglected the position. Throw in luck of the draft, average playing career, and needing 22 starters we've done far better than average.
  17. Everyone is desperate for a QB until you have a good one. It's the nature of the NFL. Hindsight is easy but tell me when decisions you would have made at the time giving the options available. You have to work with the hand you're got. If the Panthers had given up what the 49ers did to draft Lance this board would be melting down x10.
  18. So, if player A we passed on turns out to be Jesus we suck and if the player we did pick isn't Jesus we suck. Talk about not having a clue. It's incredibly difficult to win the NFL. A lot has to go right along with some luck. Very, very few teams have been able to carry long term success at a very high level. The Panthers are a great team to be a fan of and if taking a CB at 8 is your breaking point then you need a lot more help than football can provide. I don't see Fields as having any more break out stud potential than Darnold. I'd much rather go all in on one. If they thought Fields was a much better option and had taken him and traded Darnold, fine but you're not going to trade Darnold for a anything as valuable as the #8 pick. We've got a young potential star at QB just like if we'd drafted him in the top 10. We seem to be in the process of building a stud defense and as a Panther fan I'm really excited to see what having a great CB is like. We've had some average to a few really good CB but never a really elite one. Gamble is probably the best we ever had. We are one FS aways from being scary, scary good. We have a coaching staff that is really good. We had no business being in as many games last year as we were. We overachieved for the talent we had after losing Cam, Luke, Olsen, CMC, etc. I am excited about the future.
  19. I can always count on the Huddle to make me feel smart. I like the pick and even if I didn't it's not that hard to figure out why they made that pick.
  20. Hey, if the Panthers take him I pray I'm wrong. Gettleman knows infinitely more about football that I do. I am curious as to how you know this though. I know being a photographer on game days and this site give you a lot of insight to the team and palyers but I'm of the believe that outside of Gettlemen and the scouting staff no one really knows for sure who is rated where. Even most players in years past that have been interviewed have no idea what the front office is thinking.
  21. 1. You need a lot more than 3 drafts to find a pattern. There is definitely no defense one year and then offense the next year pattern. That gives me a headache from rolling my eyes so hard. 2. I talked to a guy last week who been a college coach over the last 20 years with a few years coaching on NFL teams. I asked him about Derrick Henry. He said that he'd didn't consider him a first round talent and that any running back from Alabama is suspect when transitioning to the NFL. Said he's taken so many hits already in his career he almost washed up by the time he gets to the NFL. Also, said in the NFL a RB has to have the ability to make someone miss in the hole and Henry can't do that. Now, I know that's only a minute off the cuff conversation with a guy I just meet but I agree with him in addition to other negatives people have of Henry. Runs to upright. Lack of quick acceleration to hit the hole. Etc. I'm not a scout but the more I read of Henry the more and more he reminds me of a slightly taller Eric Shelton. Personally, I think we'll end up with the best available from DE, S, or CB in that order.
  22. Am I missing something with Lawson cause ya'll are talking crazy? I'm a tiger fan and watched every second he's played in college. He's going to be a top 15 pick, maybe top 10. That medical check was requested from one team. All other teams cleared him. His shoulder is fine. In a way I hope it was the Panthers that flagged it to play some head games. Anything can happen and I am by no means an expert but I would be shocked to see Shaq not drafted in the first round. It's just not going to happen. I don't even see any way he'd fall all the way to us in the 1st round. I would love to have him. I've been telling a buddy all along that he plays and reminds me a ton of Charles Johnson but Shaq might have more quickness.
  23. I think Jeremy is hearing from everything that Josh will be tagged because that is exactly what Gettleman wants out there. There are two ways I can see his thinking going on this. 1 - Ideally, he's love to have Josh under a 3 or 4 year deal and will use the leverage of Josh's age and the franchise tag to get the best long term deal possible. If Josh wants to break the bank then there's no choice but to franchise him. 2 - Gettleman really does only want to franchise Josh for one year because he doesn't believe in paying conners big money long term. His approach to football is to put the bulk of your money in the d-line, into the Hog mollies. So, expect to see Short get a huge deal. I don't think he'll break the bank on a FA d-lineman but he wants to have that money available for when we need to sign Short, Star, Ealy and whomever other dlinemen he finds in the draft. As to RB, I'm not sold that the answer isn't already on the Roster. CAP and Wegher have shown great flashes and are only rookies. They were behind a probowl RB, a great short yardage and valued guy in Tolbert along with Fozzy who excelled at blocking. The fact that they never even tried to put Wegher on the practice squad tells me they see real future potential in him.
  24. I watched ever single second of the 1-15 season. I was pumped and defended Jimmy Clausen far longer than even the most loyal bandwagon fan. My friends house where we watch all of the games doesn't have a "living" room. It's the Panther room and is covered with all types of Panthers swag that everyone donates. Signed pics of players, posters, bobbleheads, etc. Somehow this year we started a thing where when a Panther players does something good we fist bumb and it's bad juju if you don't fist pump every single person in the room (usually 4-6 of us). So far this year I think I've fistbumped someone about 8,569 times. Every time you talk to anyone in the group at any time and are leaving, texting or hanging up the phone the conversation must end with "Go Panthers". No one ever made up any of our rules. They just happen and must never be broken. I found this out this year when I had a knee injury Sat night before the second Panther-Falcons game. Was in the ER til 6 the next morning. Ended up staying home and watching the game by myself. We lost. I have seriously wondered (against all logic) that it really is somehow my fault we are not undefeated. Go Panthers.
