Ned has to play 9 of the remaining 25 games.
Anybodyhome replied to zacka77ack's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Does he have to start? Play the entire game? Can he come in to replace Reimer and have that count? Part of a game? -

But if mechanics are going to be questioned, what exactly is the benchmark you're using? That's my point. So, if Cam is such a special athlete, why aren't coaches around the globe teaching kids his mechanics? Or, if someone is a special athlete, then mechanics don't matter? Just trying to understand where the line is drawn. I don't know Lance or Fields, but I do know that Cam's mechanics were talked about ad nauseam in this very forum. And Dan fugging Orlovsky?

Next 2 weeks look like this: A good opportunity to make up for the 3-game skid and a golden opportunity to beat Tampa Bay at home.

Does anyone remember any of these footwork and mechanics questions when Carolina drafted Cam Newton? Oh, and he's never changed any of it, although there were glimpses of a change after a few injuries, but he is basically the same mechanical QB the Panthers drafted.

Hurricanes Vs. Blue Jackets Best of Four Series 3/18-3/25
Anybodyhome replied to Harbingers's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Yeah, I kinda lost it there.... wife was in the other room as I was shouting, "What the fug are you doing?!?!" Overall, a good game. Defense was standing CBJ up at the blue line and only allowing 12 shots through 2 periods and 19 total? Sheeesh, that'll get you a win almost every night. On the other side of that coin, a lot of Canes players were put on the ice with hits last night. Bean and Skjei showed a little more physicality, which is a good thing and must continue to learn how to dish it out. 3 games of a 4-game set; 4 points apiece. -

Vinny wearing yellow, but with his skates on-stick in hand is a good sign. The bad sign is the yellow- likely not to play tonite. If he does, I'll be very surprised. -
The Situation Room in Toronto can initiate a video review in the last minute of regulation and during OT. They missed this one and it cost Carolina the game.

So, the Canes lost on a league-initiated review of an off-sides call on the game winner. If the league can initiate a review of that type, which had no bearing on the outcome of the game, why didn't the league initiate a review of the penalty on Columbus when Laine lost his stick along the boards and it was pushed back to him with a stick, which is illegal? Penalty occurs at about 4:20, Laine loses stick, it gets pushed back to him before he make the cross-ice pass for the game-tying goal:

Slavin going about his business tonite. It's the little things, but he's always in control. -

Look where he's shooting from- not his usual spot. The last couple games I've notices him moving to the right side more often, likely trying get some space and it shallows his angle as a lefty. His confidence is an issue right now. He's taking hits and getting pushed around a bit, can't score and even passed up a couple lacrosse opportunities. As I said last week- he needs a good 2-3 point game and he'll be back. -
No worries. After all the Panthers signed..... wait, I forgot their names.... fug..... who, again?

Tiger Woods has signed a deal with video game producer 2k. It's an exclusive deal and the first he's had since EA dropped him in 2013 following his failed attempt to escape his gorgeous, why-would-you-even-think-about-fugging-around-on-her wife, Elin Nordgren, when she came after him with a pitching wedge. https://www.yardbarker.com/golf/articles/amp/tiger_woods_signs_with_2k_for_first_video_game_deal_since_2013/s1_127_34370606 To be honest, we should have all seen this coming. After all, the only golf he'll ever play again will be with a game controller.

You're seeing this, too, eh? I wasn't going to say anything, but after last night's dumb penalties, it's hard to avoid. A face-off circle penalty? Really? Svech needs a 2-3 point game to get his head back on straight. Oh, and I would have yanked Reimer after the second time he lost his stick. I get that most coaches won't pull their goalie unless he's getting lit up, but allowing a bunch of goals is just as much a concentration thing as holding onto your stick.
-
I don't know that I'd say the Canes D was close to "top notch" last night. Dougie was more interested in getting shots on goal than he was playing defense. Not his best effort defensively. Tripp even mentioned it. Peace was okay and Slavin was his usual consistent self. But none of the blue liners were getting their name called last night. I think the team played like this was a gimme.
-
Bad D all night, Reimer was terrible, bad penalties, loss was deserved.
-
I think the Canes will lose Hamilton, cut Gardiner and his $4M salary next season, sign Mrazek to a new deal and let Reimer walk, keeping Ned as the #2. There are plenty of 3rd line blue-liners out there who won't cost this team a lot of money. Although Foegle is an RFA, and he's arbitration eligible, I think if the ask is too big, he might be gone as well. The team, right now, has $28M in projected cap space at the end of the season. That's a lot to work with in the grand scheme.
-
You left the goalies off your list...

I started another thread about his being waived. He's missed significant time the last 3 seasons with injuries- all of them are back-related. He's got a $4M contract for the next couple years, but do you think the Canes can afford to part ways with both him and free agent to-be Dougie Hamilton? And, although it's 2 games in Detroit, the Canes are going to play with 5 D's or are they going to bring up Joakim Ryan while searching for another D somewhere?

https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/players/playerpage/1897666/jake-gardiner Hurricanes' Jake Gardiner: Placed on waivers by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire Gardiner (back) was waived by Carolina on Saturday, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports. Gardiner is expected to be sidelined for a while with his back issue, so the Hurricanes are hoping he'll pass through waivers unclaimed so they can assign him to their taxi squad in order to free up cap space while he's unable to play. The 30-year-old blueliner has tallied seven helpers while averaging 15:48 of ice time per contest in 17 appearances this season. ------------------------------------------ Time to face the music now. Gardiner has an injury history. Although as solid and reliable a player as he was early in his career in Toronto, the reality is he's missed a a bunch of games the last 3 straight seasons due to injury. Thing is, can this team afford to cut their losses with Jake and part ways with free agent to-be Dougie Hamilton?
-
While the injuries are far and away the most important consideration because the health and safety of the players is always paramount, these specific injuries bring to the forefront other factors that may come into play. Vinny: means RBA will continue to shuffle the lines, although Thursday night's lineup card seemed to work out pretty well. TT: the possibility of long term concussion symptoms and the fact he's under contract at $5.4M for the next few years. Gardiner: waived today- hoping he'll get through waivers and Carolina can taxi squad him. But he now has an injury history that goes back several seasons and this Canes have him in a $4M a year deal for the next few years also.

Patriot fans seem excited that Cams back

But does he have the arm strength to toss a 55 gal trash can? -
This. Boston won't even play defense. They'd much rather just beat you up. And this approach cost them in their playoff matchup with the Lightning last season. TB was much faster, quicker and simply ran away from Boston. Washington? Tom Wilson is the dirtiest player I've seen since Tai Domi. I have no idea how he's still in the league for some of the injuries he's caused.

2 games. NHL doesn't say when it starts, but they're usually immediate.
