  1. Dougie is a UFA not worth whatever he wants, gave up another blue-liner in Bean with no goalies under contract. Some 'splainin' to do.
  2. We've fostered dogs for local rescues for many years, and I served on the board of a well-respected and established SPCA organization in Virginia. Although it's very rewarding, it has just as much potential to be heart-breaking. Couple of important guidelines we established so as to prevent us from owning everything we've fostered: Establish a maximum amount of time you will keep the animal for the organization. This prevents the animal from getting too attached and prevents you from doing the same. 2 weeks is about tops for us. Use whatever name for the animal is provided by the organization. If you name it, you've made an emotional investment and it'll be difficult to give him up. Do not be a foster and also be responsible for finding his new owners. You care for the animal and let the organization do the vetting of possible families. Most fosters come from bad situations. Make sure he can sleep where he's comfortable- watch him to see where he tends to lay down and nap more often. It may be in the corner of a room, it may be behind something or near a door if they've been physically abused. If he's house trained and you feel like a crate or cage isn't necessary, don't use one just because it's convenient for you. Feed them healthy and feed them right. If they're emaciated, underweight or always seeming to be hungry, a little at a time a few times a day. Don't give them half a can and not expect them to get sick or develop diarrhea. Make sure your spouse, sig other or whomever is with you on this is on the same page as you are. The foster needs consistency, needs communication and needs to express their unconditional love. More than one person spending time with the foster is better socialization, will bring them out of their shell quicker and will allow them to trust again quicker. Lastly, there is no way to easily move on. Whether it's been 2 days or 2 months, you've committed to giving this animal a better life in a short amount of time, which requires emotional vulnerability. You must always believe that your foster will live a much better life after having spent time with you and you must know that you made that happen. Be proud of what you've done, be happy for your foster and always keep the good memories.
  3. I'm not sure this is all on Waddell. As has been mentioned, maybe Ned took an opportunity that he saw a better future with than here. If Ned was intent on staying in Raleigh and thought this was his best opportunity, his agent would not have played hardball the way he did.
  4. Really? He used the Atlanta Thrashers as an example? I sincerely hope this was an attempt at humor.
  5. I think he might be a stop-gap until something else comes along. I can't see Carolina paying him and Mrazek.
  6. Bernier made $3M in each of the last 3 seasons. No way the Canes will get him for 1/3 of that
  7. I'm not a dad and don't have any kids, but I've been there for a couple deliveries and I can tell you it's a pretty special moment. It was a conscious decision by my wife and I not to have kids and we've never spoken with any regret about it. That being said, at my age and kids are no longer an option, is there any way to induce sex? I mean, if they can do it for labor, why can't they help a bro out?
  8. Young with a lot of cap space to do some free agency shopping. Was hoping the Canes would go with Ned (new contract) and Mrazek (new contract) in net and make a run at Oleksiak or Tarasenko, but that all went to sh!t real quick.
  9. Not really. If Ned got $3M from DET and Bernier was making $3M last year, the Canes are going to pay more for Bernier. He didn't come here for the same money he was making in DET.
  10. Mrazek is once again the #1 goalie. Of course, Bernier is a complete unknown the last 3 seasons posting a 3.03 GAA while in Detroit with one of the worst teams in the NHL in front of him. But, his numbers are also getting worse with age. That being said, what's the diff between him and Reimer? They're the same goalie. Reimer is making $3.5M while Bernier was making $3M, so wtf?
  11. Gardiner needs to step up big with Dougie having one foot out the door. Not gonna lie, I'm a little worried about the blue line right now. Obviously a free agency priority.
  12. I've seen Geekie's name as well. Hope he does well and has a successful career going forward. He was starting to come into his own and was even showing some grit.
  13. Saw last night Seattle is working on a 3-year deal for Driedger (Florida's goalie) at $10.5M. That's a good thing for Carolina because Driedger, a 3rd round pick, has 5 years in the league, he's played in a total of 38 games. For an expansion team, he could very well be the starter for that kind of money, unless there's another unprotected option Seattle may be looking at (Carey Price?). They may go after Price, knowing he's probably going to have surgery and delay his 2021-22 season and they have Driedger as their starter until Price comes back. Not a bad 1-2 if you ask me.
  14. One of his rosters shows Seattle taking Bean, the other shows Mrazek.
  15. Bean was a Francis #13 pick and had a very good first half of the season, but when his 2nd half.... eh, not so much. I've heard more than one person say Lorentz might be the guy.
  16. I don't see Seattle looking at many on this list beyond Nino and McGinn.
  17. NHL teams have until 5PM EDT today to submit their protected player list to the NHL league office ahead of the Seattle Kraken expansion draft. Teams may either protect 7 forwards, 3 blueliners and 1 goalie or 8 skaters and 1 goalie. I think there's little doubt the Canes will go the 7-3-1 route. Unfortunately for us, the lists won't be made public (by the league) until tomorrow. So, we might have to wait unless someone happens to stumble across a misplaced email or find out who is safe and who's out....
  18. Wow, they caved for a whole inch! Such brave men & women to have voted for a single inch! Fug 'em. Most of them couldn't approximate an inch if you gave them a ruler head start. They should have gone to 18"
  19. A bunch of those guys are on perennial playoff teams and a few of them have a Stanley Cup as well. And what also should not be discounted is the fact this was a shortened and modified season that saw a limited number of opponents and very limited travel. Let's see what he does thru an 80-game grind with the travel.
  20. Missouri has been leading the nation in new cases of the Delta variant for a few weeks now and, as a state, have one of the lowest vaccination rates in the entire country. A vast majority of the population in the rural portions of the state still believe it's a hoax. While I understand family and parents and grandkids and all that, I can assure you that although I recovered from COVID in November last year and had both my Moderna vaccinations in March I would not purposefully have put myself in that situation regardless. People wear helmets and still get head injuries, firemen wear protective gear and still get burned on occasion, beekeepers wear their outfits and still get stung once in a while.
  21. If the Canes aren't going to pay a veteran in Hamilton the $8M he wants, how does it make sense to pay a rook goalie coming off his first partial season as a starter anywhere close to that? Sorry, but as good, bad or mediocre as Ned may be to any of us, the reality is he's not worth much more than $2.5-4M a year, tops.
  22. When you have to insert the word "obvious," it sounds as though you're trying to convince yourself. What does a "not so obvious rebuild" look like? How about the "completely stealthy" rebuild?
  23. Which is the precise reason this team cannot be a consistent winner. Examine the rosters of perennial contenders in the NFL and you'll see offensive lines who have lived, worked and played together for years, maybe losing a guy here and there along the way. The Panthers, in the meantime, have the proverbial revolving door along their O-lines and every series CMC steps into the huddle, he's looking to see who's playing left guard for the next 4 downs.
  24. One of the best scenes of the entire series. Watch Tony when he walks in the house, Janice is sitting there with a cigarette and Tony is standing behind her- watch the smile that creeps into Tony's face- priceless.
