  1. 3rd down and 2.... 3rd down and 7.... 3rd down and 12..... 3rd down and 17.....
  2. Before my last move, the wife and I had a weekend long yard sale with everything we weren't taking with us. Made a couple grand and on the following Monday, called my friends who ran the local animal rescue (they operate a small consignment/resale store of used stuff to help fund the rescue) and they sent a truck to pick up everything we left them as donation.
  3. Was probably fighting for a nickel or dime CB position. I fugging hate when any player on any team gets injured during preseason.
  4. It was a bit awkward at times, but you gotta remember he's got producers and stat guys chirping in his ear while he's trying to talk. But, he does need to let go of the tired and mundane analogies, metaphores and cliches- he did stumble thru several of those. But I love his honesty and there's nothing more refreshing than to have someone who knows these guys and came from this organization who'll tell it like it is. The only disagreement I have- Grier is a bust. Made a couple good throws yesterday, but it was a preseason game and it doesn't make up for the nothing he's done for a couple years now.
  5. I'd settle for any Pittsburgh O-line in the last 20 years, since this was the team that wanted to build itself like the Steelers...
  6. Calm down. Relax. There are a lot of reasons those Panther teams didn't succeed, the least of which was Cam- I'm well aware. But adding his bust to a second tier Mt. Rushmore that includes Aikman, Young and Warner? C'mon, man.
  7. I haven't moved myself since 1982. Pay a moving company. One of my best moves- 1992 just before I retired from the Navy when they asked where I wanted to go, I told them NC. So, they pack up everything I own in San Diego and tell me it'll be 10 days before it gets to NC. Best 10-day cross-country road trip ever. Just me, my car, some clothes & stuff and my bike. Back in the days of road maps and $19.95 rooms at a clean Motel 6.
  8. Oh, I thought this was one of those "Which of these does not belong" games where we see 3 guys with Super Bowl rings and one who has none. Look, I enjoyed Cam's athleticism as much as anyone, but to stand him up to 3 guys with a total of 7 Super Bowl wins among them and try to make any comparison is stupid. Does that yardage total surpassing these guys get him a ring? Big trophy? Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton threw it all over the lot, too, but what most people know is they never won the Lombardi Trophy; not how many yards they threw for.
  9. Oh, and I'm in this somewhere.... filmed onboard the USS Missouri at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard in June 1989. I pulled rank, drove up to LB and was in the crowd somewhere.
  10. "...outside of sports here in Raleigh." Taken at face value, he's been hired elsewhere in Raleigh, and it's not in the sports industry. Can't read too much into it and we'll never be sure if it was the Canes or NHL, who maintains a stranglehold on team websites and really limits content.
  11. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2190143/2022-stanley-cup-odds-teams-to-buy-sell-following-chaotic-offseason It's hard to imagine why a team as close to Cup contention as the Hurricanes would choose to go the route they did this offseason. Letting Dougie Hamilton go was understandable - as good as he is, they couldn't come close to matching what he got from New Jersey - but the 180-degree pivot Carolina took in net remains one of the most puzzling offseason storylines. Why the Hurricanes are paying virtually the same annual salary for Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta over Alex Nedeljkovic and Petr Mrazek - who were superb for them last season - remains a mystery. Andersen, who'll be 32 when the season starts, is coming off the two worst campaigns of his career and was limited to just 24 games last season due to injury. The 32-year-old Raanta, meanwhile, has only played 57 games over the last three years. ------------------------------------------------ My sentiments exactly.
  12. The Last Waltz. The Band's last concert filmed by Martin Scorcese on Thanksgiving Day 1976 in the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. A small sample of the guests who played.... Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Dr. John, Muddy Waters, The Staples Singers, Emmylou Harris, Paul Butterfield, Ringo Starr.... etc... I was there.
  13. And what event are you participating in besides the "knuckle dragger circle jerk with my bestie goat lover boys?" By the way, if your "Life Don't Matter," why live it?
  14. Along these same lines..... sort of..... I bought tickets, flights and a hotel for a couple days to go to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction at the Rocket Mortgage Arena in Cleveland at the end of October. The inductees: Tina Turner, Carole King, Foo Fighters, JayZ, LLCoolJ, Randy Rhoades, Gil Scott-Heron, Go-Go's, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk, Charley Patton, Billy Preston. Tina likely will not attend as she's been in pretty poor health of late and lives in Switzerland. Foo Fighters will kill, as will Carole, JayZ, LLCoolJ, the Go-Go's and Todd. Will be interested to see who plays tribute to Billy Preston and Randy Rhoades?
  15. Brendan Smith signed (LD/RD). I think this makes Gardiner even more available as trade bait and he adds a lot of experience to a 3 or 4th line and he can play either side. I could see him playing alongside Cole on the 3rd line and Bear and Skjei on the 4th. Either way, someone will get their feelings hurt having to play the 4th line. This is a sneaky good defensive group- not a lot of offense- but strong on D. Him & Cole together might be one of the most physical blue lines this team has ever seen. And, also not to be taken for granted, Svech did not file for arbitration and I'm fairly certain he could have(?).
  16. Move an ECHL team into the Wake Competition Center...
  17. The vault she committed to the judges prior to the event and the one she attempted weren't even close.
  18. Today's takes... Anyone care to guess why Carolina didn't make a serious run at Grubauer? $5.9M for a top tier G isn't a bad price. I like Brandon Saad. Canes had a phenomenal PK last season and they could lock down defensively when they had to, but I don't see much roster improvement defensively that would justify the head-scratching goalie bind they found themselves in. It almost seems as though either no one was listening to Ned or his agent, or the Canes believed he would stay for a team-friendly salary. I don't know, but I have a pretty good idea Ned wanted to go and the Canes went in desperation mode looking for a goalie. I know the Devils signed Dougie for $9M a year. But did you also know they're also paying PK Subban $9M a year? Subban's last 2 seasons in New Jersey: -21 (18 pts) and -16 (19 pts). NJ is paying Subban and Dougie almost as much as their entire roster of forwards....
  19. Heard that same story after Steve Smith punched a teammate. Heard the same story from the Caps fans over Tom Wilson's on ice thug life. Heard the same when Tom Brady played golf with Trump.
  20. Opinion, opinion and, sure as fug shoulda been.
  21. True, but you might get some arguments about the Panthers as well.....
  22. That ended a couple years ago.... And, even if that was the case as his alma mater, why isn't his name on the football stadium at Wofford instead of the indoor basketball stadium? Because the Gibbs family donated the first $1M to build it, that's why.
