REPORT: Ben Johnson wants $15 million per year
Steelo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The above, plainly. Besides the fact that we are arguing over openings that aren't open or remotely likely to be open. Because we think he's hot doesn't mean every franchise wants a first time HC. Much less want to go the offensive route. Plethora of leaders of men and great coaches on the defensive side of the ball. Demeco is proving that, McDermott is still proving that even after his 2 week stint on the hot seat. BJ might be the 'hottest' name to some in the offseason but not every franchise will be in on him. -
Bobby Slowik- Meet the Candidate- Part 4 of 12
Steelo replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Given Houston was #2 and had to prepare for either Stroud or Young I find it hard to believe he didn't already have an offensive vision in mind for Young. He can work in the run game to account for deficiencies in the pass game. May not be as vertical as Houston's O but he has Noah Brown playing well... That speaks for itself. Maybe a year or 2 away from being ready for a HC gig. Debatable but would depend on who he brings in on his staff to help him along. Get Adam Peters with him or even the KC GM and get him some guys in advisory roles that he's familiar with and let it rip if this is the choice. -
Fixed it for you.

BREAKING: Panthers might hang on to Ejiro Evero
Steelo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Again, another coach that a new HC would be blessed to hire or retain. IF a new coach wants him im sold on the idea. Evero might not be sold on the idea though. Even more another team might be sold on him as their next HC so that would put the defense in limbo yet again. I do admire the fact that the coaches that the team would want to keep around are coaches that are actually worth it. If I saw it kicked around that we want to retain Tremble's Uncle as TE coach I'd be a bit perturbed. We could and frankly probably will do much worse hiring a new DC, which will be churned in 2 seasons because of poor performance, much like ST if we hire away from Tabor. New HC has to make some good hires, and not just their college buddies or familiar faces from austere coaching situations they have been in at one point in time. The DC and ST here are kind of layups for first time HCs. -

Why when they can more than likely get Jim for less or similar on a longer contract. Jim gonna have that Michigan deal to leverage as well. -

Should be an easy bar to reach, the language is gonna be something though. Has to have security THROUGH 3 years atleast. I say 4-5 year deal, with year 4 in mind for an extension. Just pay him 15-17.5M per and be done with it. Still won't guarantee he comes here but 15M is gonna be steep for other ownership groups to be willing to shell out for a new HC. Our owner is brazzen enough to do it without thinking twice, for better or for worse. -
Humor me, by pointing out which staff members were "Snitching".. is it just anyone that wasn't fired a snitch? Capers, Caldwell..? I mean I get we're down bad on Mint St but logic has flown out the window with the fanbase as well. How do we know the 2 that got axed by Tabor weren't the ones running behind Frank's back and talking bad about the franchise. I mean at this point everyone probably believes Tepper was on Epstein's list and because Schefter refuted it that he's also a Tepper guy? Get a grip. He's a good ST coach, it's likely another HC especially a new one with little connections so far would actually retain him. I have no issue with that.
-
If it's stemming from his recruiting violations its a Level 1 infraction, shouldn't be much that comes from that from a discipline standpoint
-
There are no such things as tepper guys. Especially when they had no prior relationship to him. That "Tepper guy" thing is massively overblown. IF a new HC wants to keep Tabor I'd be all for it, he knows what he is doing. He doesn't have HC aspirations and wants to be good at his craft. Especially when you hire a first time HC. Tabor might be the easiest hire/retention he makes. We need an offensive overhaul, Defense and ST have been playing decently well. Yeah I'd argue that we should be going after kicking competition, but other than that Tabor has been making solid ST players out of fringe roster guys.

Merry Christmas you miserable bunch. No seriously, I hope everyone enjoys the holidays no matter what your situation may be.

Scott tries to be too cute and it burns us in the end (no pun intended) Get a new GM in the building and let him workout a deal with Burns, promise a new leader in the FO will get Burn's reengaged in talks and prolly be able to negotiate a better deal. Why would I take a good deal when you don't have a legitimate direction you are taking the team. Players would feel better about getting funky with the details when they know success is within reach. When you have a team the players know is directionless it becomes feast or famine and they are going to get the biggest guarantees possible that YOU are going to have to pay and know they could still get dealt if the situation gets dire enough.
-
Yeah, there are a few college guys I could see getting jobs.. Harbaugh, if a team likes Dan Lanning enough from Oregon, Dan Campbell from ISU could make the NFL jump as examples. I can see 6-7 OBVIOUS openings or hot seats. Carolina, LV, LAC for sure NE, WAS, ATL likely with Chicago being 50/50 or 60/40 in favor of firing Eberflus. I don't see many seats that will open besides those this season. I don't see the Jets this season especially with how the A Rod situation worked out this year. I don't see TB/Saints either but Dennis Allen seat will probably get hot if they don't win the "Weak NFC South" Black Monday can't come fast enough I wanna see what shakes out.

Should we seriously consider Evero for head coach?
Steelo replied to PleaseCutStewart's topic in Carolina Panthers
He got a half season preview last season and did nothing with it. I don't think this was the rationale used in not offering Evero the interim position. Evero can and probably still will interview for the vacancy. Not all interim hires are indicative of the team's next moves... nor should they be. -
It starts with your GM. Get a better GM in the building and then Dave's decisions are going to look better. EVEN if Dave says "We need to get x type of player" A better GM with better scouting department can get the actual player we need, not a USFL standout that never translated to the NFL.

Panthers releasing Justin Houston… what a great signing
Steelo replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
He came in supposedly hungry and underproduced. Then hit his IR stint that was so long I forgot he was ever on the team. ATP he just ring chasing, but go be great. -
A name that could make the rounds this HC search COULD be our old friend Joe Brady. Not saying that WE would be in on him, but hey they interviewed Ken Dorsey last cycle so I guess anything is possible. Great position for Joe to be in as well, he could take a HC or presumably just stay as OC in Buffalo. If as many positions open up as "insiders" think were gonna hear some off the wall names for candidates.
-
I can't wait until he's officially fired, so we can end all this speculation or white knighting for Scott. GM/HC have been bad for 4 years. We've gone through 2 HCs now... time for GM to go.

Should we seriously consider Evero for head coach?
Steelo replied to PleaseCutStewart's topic in Carolina Panthers
Absolutely should consider him. Depending on how the coaching cycle goes he could be the 2nd best option for us. Which would save us from bargain bin shopping for a person who has looked at an offense before as our next HC. -
Meh. WAS is a poo show brewing rn. They’d do well to just promote EB. Ownership will give him whatever he thinks he needs to succeed. Calling Howell a franchise guy is a stretch at this juncture too.
-
*WOULD say. Rhule ruined him, which is really his fault for the hire but yeah.
-
I wouldn’t say Rhule is the reason he gets involved, he wasn’t as involved for about 1 1/2 years. Let him draft all defense, let them trade for Darnold THEN he started poking his nose around. I truly feel like if we have a GM/HC combo that knows what they are doing he’s gonna back off. Winning cures all.
-
What's funny is, that list we 'have to be comfortable with' would still be a great hire... sans Bill O'B and maybe Frank Smith.. don't know a ton about him tbh. If Johnson is the dream, I'd have to wager that Slowik is right up there. Did great with a rookie, granted better situation week to week. Either way has him in MVP conversations and maybe 2nd in the league in passing... Lowkey I like Slowik, pairing him with a FO member from SF as GM. Evero is my close second though. If we can't get a young OC hire Evero. Neither Harbaugh nor Bill B are even confirmed to be in this pool of candidates to this point. Mentioning them is a futile at this point.. I can circle back to them if and when they are confirmed to have NFL interest or interest to continue coaching.
-
I agree, it's fools gold. It's a better landing spot for someone with experience (at both positions) because they can rebound faster than having the growing pains and dealing with those type of things out of the gate. Chicago IF it comes open would be the better landing spot, great cap space, great GM, great picks. Yet, I feel like Chicago would try to lure Harbaugh.. this coaching cycle is gonna be interesting to say the least.

Tepper doesn't have the balls to pull a move like this. It would never happen lol
-
That entire Speculated list is questionable. Bills/Jets/Titans don't seem likely at all, would more so be a surprise. Bucs are more likely than anyone else on the list, but I bet they wait to see how other moves shake out before they make a move.
