That is huge. Dwight Hollier was a friend of mine (we coached together after his NFL career ended) and he said that most fans do not really care about special teams--he said that he extended his career through them. He said that you are quality depth ONLY if you play special teams--any other situation as a defensive player, your job is on the line. He added that most fans do not realize that special teams determine the winners and losers as much as offense or defense. Interesting take.

Excellent point. And let's not forget that the OL Sanders ran behind in Philly is pretty awesome--and Hurts run threat kept the defense from being overly aggressive. Here, the line is still developing (solid, but not great) and the QB is not really a threat to run as much.

There was some talk about moving Smith to an edge rusher--where his skills are magnified and his deficiencies (processing) minimized. He is blazing fast, big enough (6' 3", 241) and can be a factor on special teams.

Good question: I would say YGM because Leota had a good camp, as did Jones.

I think Wright was cut. I think they like Jensen and he could take McCray's job since Mays can play all 3 interior line spots--that is going to be interesting. Rowe? I think he is gone. If you are looking to bury him, do not read this post. However, if you want to hold out hope, he has the tools and he is with a new Staff. Rhule was a bitch, and if you got in his dog house, I can see where it would be discouraging. having said that, I just do not see him in this system. For his size, he needs to bull rush and hold the edge. Can he?

I see Barno, Haynes, and Burns as the "rush LBs" and Johnson, YGM, Houston, and Leota as the "edge holders" who will do more bull rushing the passer. For that reason, YGM is really neither. I was much more impressed with Leota in the preseason that YGM or Johnson, fwiw.

I agree. However, some people are late bloomers. YGM and Henderson give me the feeling that neither loves the game--not based on facts, just a gut.

I recall Rhule saying that they loved him when he was in the draft and when he became available after such a short opportunity, he pounced. Having said that, I do not think CJ wants to play football. His issues are not talent-based--they are dispositional, it seems.

POINTS TO CONSIDER: 1. Zavala is playing well out of position at RG 2. BC is a good athlete and that athleticism could be minimized at LG; BC Can play OT. 3. Moton's contract swells to $30m in 2024. BC can play RT If you don't look at the immediate needs, the writing is on the wall for the 12 month plan.
