And that does impact your sack total. If the offense only has 1 edge rusher to block--they focus on Burns. We flipped him around and used him in coverage at times--that means we are hoping that the offense struggles to adjust to his pre snap alignment or that they put 2 blockers on him and he drops into the flat in coverage and we send a blitzing DB or LB instead. Either way, that does hurt his ability to get as many sacks as TJ Watt, who has Highsmith on the other side. Heck, the Steelers have Nick Herbig too, and he is better than all Panther Edge rushers not named Burns.

He may be more comfortable with analytics than motivating egotistical athletes. He came off as somewhat shy and introspective to me, but who knows? Interesting question.

Since he and Fitterer worked together in Seattle, it makes you wonder if they were not joined at the hip. that is problematic, but it seems more likely that Morgan would engage with FItterer and not Tepper so much. If Morgan did engage with Tepper, that might suggest that he did not feel that Fitterer was doing it and he needed to do so. When I said "reportedly" I should have said "rumored" because I meant that it has been stated--I assumed that anyone making such a statement has some knowledge of it, but yes, we have some truth stretchers on here. "Alternative facts" have become all the rage of late.

While I am saying that Morgan should be considered, I am also aware that hiring from within is often a sign of insecurity. Then again, at times it is like a used car transaction--the buyer is looking at all the cool features of the car while the seller is focused on the car's issues and problems. I dunno. However, I would give Morgan a chance. He has solid references/track record and a decade of experience with 2 successful franchises. I am not sure we will find better, but I do not know his shortcomings. Someone made the point that his pizza business failed. Morgan was a football player. not a pizza guru. He was very cerebral, which means he is able to analyze his opponents tendencies and weaknesses/strengths. I would not sell him short, but I would shop around first. Keeping him on to oversee the transition is wise because it does not let him off the hook.

Morgan has personnel experience in Seattle and Buffalo, and I agree with everything you say here. I actually knew Brandon Beane (he is from Norwood, NC) as a grunt Panther scout/front office coffee boy and he and I talked Panthers a few times while our cars were being inspected. At the time, I was not impressed with him, but it was interesting. I'd take him back in minute. I think his desire to return home was in the back of my mind, but he and McDermott are blood brothers.

I am just repeating what others said and assumed it had been reported, so good question--if they are full of Sht, I am too. I am not sure where they got it, but I want to believe it.

NFC South 2024 Offseason Financials [Spotrac]

Same page, brother. Moton being traded is merely a cap move--he is our best OL by far. -

I often have these thoughts, and it is the best way to build a team. Hershel Walker to Minnesota brought Dallas rings, for example. However, as poorly as we have drafted, I dunno. CMC and Moore gutted our offense, and we got value for them in draft capital. I think of it this way, your first rounder has about a 50-60% chance of being a success, and after that, it drops to something like 25% then down to 10% on day 3. Derrick Brown in young and will be a beast in this league for the next 8-10 years. I love him as a player and maybe a little bit as a man-he knows nothing about that part. -
Morgan has been promoted and worked with player personnel in Seattle and Buffalo, so he has experience. I am not going to share an opinion based on the fact that I really do not know what he knows or the extent of his power. I do, however, recall some things about this that could work: 1. He knows where the bodies are buried. He knows the cancers and the players who have not bee properly developed. He has been watching and biting his lip, we assume. 2. He reportedly stands up to Tepper. If so, then that will be defined during the interview. The good sign? He stands up to to Tepper and he is still here and seems to be in position to at the very least help during this transition. 3. Experience in Seattle and Buffalo. They are successful teams that have developed talent and been competitive. He has worked under 2 of the best GMs in the NFL. 4. The Panthers will not be able to attract a proven GM, so they will be taking a chance regardless. Who is better than Morgan (I don't know--not a rhetorical question). So there are some reasons Morgan is suited for the position. We should not dismiss what we know about Morgan for what we hope might define an outside candidate. That is not to say we should not do a thorough search, but I have always been impressed with Morgan, and I would not be surprised to see him as a GM somewhere in the near future.

NFC South 2024 Offseason Financials [Spotrac]

I am not a fan of any plan to move Derrick Brown. He is the reason our defense was solid, and he is young. Give him a long term extension. -

Corbett might be done, or at least never the same. However, with the focus on WR, we may have few options. Rework Moton's deal and trade him. That would save nearly 30m. Our best OL, he is 30 and likely will be over the hill when this team is ready to compete for a title. -
Either way, if this is accurate, not a good look.
-
He won with a solid RB and adequate to marginal QB--I think he is a good coach, frankly.
-
I get it--and agree. But if they were presenting solid advice--like maybe, for example, they suggested Stroud over Young....It is hypothetical, but I am for the house cleaning; I just have seen too many toxic organizations get overhauled when the man at the top was the problem--you are probably right, but I try to consider things I may not understand from the outside looking in.

Please Tepper do the right thing and go hard after Jim Harbaugh
MHS831 replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
Seriously, we made mistakes by going after brand names in perfect situations. Sanders, for example, had a great year behind an excellent OL, and passing game. Perfect conditions, and we paid him for his success in Philly. Bryce looked good as a front runner at Bama where his team was usually heavily favored. Want to see a coach? Take the guys who win without great players around them. Take guys who develop players so that they max their potential--(I am very down on Campen, but what he has done with Ickey, Zavala, Mays, Bozeman, BC is criminal.) I personally like coaches with close relationships with Shanahan. They all seem detail oriented and they maximize talent. -

Table manners play an important part in making a favorable impression. They are visible signals of your manners, and therefore, are essential to professional success. -

Not many people can say they won on the NFL and NCAA levels. However, he has a rather short shelf life, based on hearsay and rumors. -
I think they had to give him the courtesy of an interview. It is hard to justify an internal hire during a house cleaning, but we shall see. I like what I hear, but I would want to hear from outsiders. Sometimes serving in a toxic environment does not give you experience. It will be interesting, but I would love to see him serving in some capacity that influences personnel, based on what I know of his performance in that area. I do not know if our scouts were terrible or that the front office did not listen to their recommendations, so his relationship with scouting is important one way or another.

Give me this in the 4th or 5th round and call me happy..
MHS831 replied to recceice's topic in Carolina Panthers
What is the story on JJ McCarthy? Is he entering the draft? If so, he would be the fourth or fifth QB-- I was also impressed with the TE from Washington (Westover, I think was his name) and he is not even listed as a potential draft pick. I would take him late and laugh about it. Good hands, routes, blocking--what is not to like about him> -
Hurney was good (safe for the most part) in round 1. I give him that. After that, he lost his mind.
-
That is what I have heard--not seeing BB as a west coast guy, but Herbert was the deal breaker for me. I think Atlanta is a close second, fwiw.
-
That is a thought, but I would hope they would not have zeroed in on a type yet--but who knows?
-
That could suggest that they are going to overhaul the scouting department? If I were GM, I would have the scouts pitch the candidate to the head coach and me. I get the feeling our scouts were not given the respect they should have been given. They are the real talent evaluators--we shall see. However, if I see the Teppers at the combine or pro days, I am going to send someone a blistering letter mind you.

Nice zinger. She married a billionaire. I am pretty sure that is her specialty! But Hedge funds, Appaloosa, brass desk balls, analytics. Ain't that how football works?
