Panthers sign ex Bills CB Dane Jackson
MHS831 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Buffalo has some cap issues and it was a good time to pick up a solid role player. Above average PFF score, fwiw. Looks like Edge and WR in draft This is starter money--he is 27. He will start opposite Horn. We still need depth. -

If he takes his number, they can just give him his old jerseys. -

So we trade D Jackson for D Johnson and sign D Jackson. No wonder I get confused -
Those top 5--all QBs who are either past their primes or underperforming--makes me so Happy that we did not land Watson.
-
He ran a 4.59. 40 at the combine, which is probably why he dropped in the draft.
-
Right. When Chark did not step up and Marshall continued to discover his purpose, we only had a rookie (Mingo) and Thielen. At 32, he should not have come in to be the #1 WR, but he was needed and he stepped up. I am fairly sure that he'd be totally happy as the third or fourth best WR at this stage of his career.

The biggest reason I would have to shop Thielen is his age (33) and I do not want Bryce going to him as an outlet quickly because they are familiar. Do I think Renfro would be the answer? Maybe, but man, there are some good slot WRs in the draft later too. Washington from UVA and A Smith (I think) from Tex AM. If I knew the offensive philosophy better, how the intend to maximize Bryce's skillset, I would have a stronger opinion. I am not that high on Renfro. I just texted my friend's son who plays T for the Raiders (Parker). He said that he and Renfro were religious and were close friends for that reason. FWIW.

I see your point--he was the safe check down a lot. I did hear he did not want to be part of a rebuild, so maybe we could trade him for a late round pick, but I do not know if we get much, a trade at all, and I am not sure Renfro is an upgrade. I do, however, see your points--made the same comments myself. He is an outlet and was not a threat. Who did we have that might require a S over the top?

The Chargers are over the cap, fwiw.
-
If I am not mistaken, today teams have to get their caps below the cap figure--so there should be some trades, waivers by 4:00
-
I think AT said he did not want to be a part of a rebuild.
-
AT is 33 He had 1000 yards and 100 catches here last year. His 10-year average is 770 yards and 91 catches per season
-
In the last two years he has a total of 585 yards. Before that, he had a 1000 yard, 100 catch season. He is 28.

amen

Newsflash. Details at 11. I think Canales is going to really work on developing Mingo, maybe Marshall too. Maybe they will be better fits now. People get on Mingo like he was a bust, but in this offense, he had over 400 yards as a rookie--now, those are TE numbers, but he had a catch in every game, I believe.

That is pretty much what we saw. It was ugly
-
People used to say that about Peppers too. There is a bit of a cat and mouse game going on during a game. If the T sees your moves every play, you are easier to block later. You hear this a lot about DEs/OLBs/Edge players.

I think we are going to address edge within the next day or two, but that is with a questionable player at best---we still could use a veteran. Gonna read this more carefully and maybe respond later--some very thoughtful and valid points in here. -

Yeah, I did not break down the WRs into their roles and that makes WR seem like less of a need. I did color the need square with the "starter" color. I think we go Edge and WR in round 2 with a possibility to add a CB--but I think we add a few free agents that make this easier. CB has to be one--We are probably about to see some 1-year contracts soon. -

Here is what concerns me about C--they have already announced moving Corbett there and I think they have made Mays the backup C. They have other open starting positions and they have not announced it. I think they will draft a C if the BPA is there, but I worry that they see it at least covered, on paper, for now. I feel confident that there are 4 positions that have nobody in the starting position (SS, CB, Edge, and possibly TE.) I am very worried about depth at WR, CB, DL, LB, OL etc etc. A swiss army RB, reserve Mike LB, etc. Someone said that Shaq is gone (cap) and they need to find his replacement. Fitterer really, really sucked. Bad. -

This scared me. I realize we have more free agency, the draft, and then even undrafted free agents---I still do not see how they are going to field a decent team===and then there is the QB question mark at best. -

I know--this bothers me--why spend $$$$ on 2 guards and have a C by default? Listening to everyone, man this roster is bare. Everyone is making good points. -

No, but if you had 10 players considering our situation across the board, is C a top 10? While C is an uncertainty, we have indisputable needs for starters in the following areas: Starter Needs Edge CB SS WR TE I am not disagreeing with you, but we also need depth a ILB, CB, CB, RB, FS. so is a position with an established OL and even a backup in year 3 still that big of a need? Every team has its weak spots--I see the point being made -
And that might make him our best WR--I can't imagine how easy it was to game plan against us. I would flood A gaps. cover the TE with a LB if necessary, and let Adam Thielen get his 75 yards.
