Panthers Select Ja'Tavion Sanders TE - Pick 101, Round 4
MHS831 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
This was the last piece to the puzzle--going Defense from here on (maybe a sixth round C). I mocked this guy to us so much--in round 2. Great job. -
I was looking at the big picture of the job, I suppose, and not the draft habits as much--that could indeed be an acquired taste from being in the Fitterer war room.
-
there is not much we can do--pull him for Dalton? Most first rounders get 2 seasons. It could be a "worst case scenario" that he improves to mediocre. Tua in Miami won about 11 games last year. However, they have weaponry out the arse.

Would you trade back from pick #101 to add a fifth rounder?
MHS831 replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
That is interesting. The phrasing suggests that he does not have one identified at 101, if he is being transparent. However, it is also interesting that he does not mention center or edge or a second WR. -

But you could trade back 10 spots to 111, for example, add a fifth, then trade the 2 fifths back up to 124, for example, giving you 2 fourths instead of a fourth and fifth. If it were me, I would take Tampa at 101. -
I can say this--If I were a retired billionaire who owned an NFL team, staying away from the war room would be impossible. I would, however, not be a part of the decision making about players--but my ego would be so out of control because self-made billionaires are so much better and smarter than mortals, at some point, I would not be able to control my excessive wisdom. (Joking--thinking like a billionaire might).

We are not in agreement on who we should draft at 101. CB TJ Tampa? Nickel CB Kris Abrams-Draine? C Van Pran-Granger? LB Cedric Gray (double dipping at LB)? WRs Troy Franklin, Brenden Rice. Tez Walker? Edge Austin Booker or Mohamed Kamara? OT Christian Jones? TE Ja'Tavion Sanders? Assuming that nobody is suggesting that we trade down for the sake of trading, and nobody is trying to imitate Fitterer, if you have equal grades on several of the names above, would you trade back?

A Parable. By MHS. Once in MHS land, there were two ways to get home from Lowe's. MHS's wife, the evil scourge from Ohio, used to shriek, "Turn right!!! It is faster!!!" MHS refused to give in to the evil scourge's unsubstantiated logic because he had a different, more direct path in mind. That did not deter the evil scourge from scourging, until one day, the evil scourge's brother met us at Lowe's and she rode home with him, determined to get home more quickly with her Ohio State graduated brother. They turned right. Behind them, I turned left. When they arrived at our home, the evil scourge's lair, I was already parked, inside the house, and feasting on a warm Pop Tart. The evil scourge had been defeated. Moral? Sometimes, you think your way is the best way or the only way. That makes you an evil scourge, blind to the ways of someone else, who might have a better way that your ego blinds you from considering. The End.

I just shared a post about Morgan to Linville because he needed an attitude adjustment! Seriously, Morgan is not kicking the can down the road. He added a second rounder instead of spending one--as Fitterer was prone to do. He seems to have a vision by focusing on the OL in free agency. I do not see the same type of mistakes being made.
-
Word was out that there were "rumblings" that we wanted Brooks too. So yeah, they had to know that too. They probably would have leapfrogged us.
-
I am already seeing less "kicking the can down the road." Getting Clowney to replace Burns was a good move (financially too). Prioritizing the OL. the Johnson for Jackson trade, adding a second rounder in this draft--he seems to have a plan and is not focused on the now as much as the future. I see refreshing differences.

Several years ago, I became a school administrator after serving as a teacher and assistant under some terrible administrators. While I had a voice and I picked my battles carefully, I was frustrated because I may have had a voice, but I did not have control. I imagine that Morgan's association with the leadership team was complicated, and Morgan seems like the type who would learn from observing how NOT to do things as much as how to do things. When I was awarded my own leadership opportunity, we immediately turned things around--not because I was awesome (unrelated fact), but because through their errors, I learned what to do. That is my only example, but I was affiliated with some poorly run schools led by idiots.

I kept saying as we discussed the draft that it is important to us (Bryce Situation) that we walk away with a second rounder. When I mocked, I traded for a second rounder in 2025. Now if Bryce screws the pooch again, we should be picking in the top 10. The second rounder gives us some leverage to move up. The QB draft next year is not looking bright.

It was like the Saints, Bucs, and Falcons got together and said, "Whatever Tepper is paying you, we will double it."
-
But you know that there are wins and losses every time a team makes a move, thanks to hindsight. One incident should not discourage us from celebrating the moment. I am not even sure that I would have traded up, fwiw. I think Jerry figured Brooks would fall to him--but neither of us know the actual background info. It is like that girl at the bar-she becomes prettier when you know a rival has his eye on her. It is when you get her home when you realize that she has a severe speech impediment and prosthetic leg.

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3
MHS831 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Morgan was too, I would assume. I think Spoon was a third rounder as well. I know that he and Morgan were best buds. -
I think it was the Wisconsin C, but I think the Penn St Center pops into my head as well. He was rising.
-
He has flashed. I pull for him. However, we could use 2 threats at TE. I just don't see us going for a TE in this draft and with Canales--he just does not seem to use them (maybe because he has not had them).
-
I do not know how to argue against your point. Someone said Franklin who would replace Johnson if he wanted to leave for a big pay day--I see that too. Van Pran would be the patient, smart pick. And to keep Corbett here is going to take a big payday. Next season Moton will be making $30m again and the two guards will be getting paid. We really need to let Corbett walk and go with a rookie. A fourth round contract for a starting Center? Whaaaaat? Ickey's deal is fairly cheap right now, but it is about to get expensive in 2026. Of course, by then, we will have a rookie RT....Gotta think about the maff.

If you notice how the Cowboys war room is positioned in relation to the camera, it seems dysfunctional. The Cowboys usually take the full 10 or 7 minutes, and when the camera shows them, they are just sitting there. The seating arrangement is very narcissistic. I think Jerry runs his mouth to get attention and air time and he always thinks he is the smartest person in the room. I am approaching this as if the Cowboys and their team Dr, have given Brooks a clean bill of health and there was a time in the NFL when Brooks would have been a first rounder. If you consider what we could have done here--draft a backup C or LB or CB, maybe we will get more support for Bryce by taking a player who is certain to be on the field. I get this pick. Legette will be on the field, now Brooks--both weapons. We are a TE away from having a full arsenal.
-
I think CB is our biggest need right now, but passing on C in round 2 does make a statement--We are happy with what we have there. If we needed a starter, we would have never passed of Frazier or Powers-Johnson. However, Van Pran-Granger is sitting there now....

Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3
MHS831 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nothing illustrates the concept that there is a lot of misinformation on the internet more than using it to prepare for the draft. Some clown like Kiper who is never held accountable for his suckage makes a statement that is not accurate or misleading. That concept is repeated and rephrased and spread by other clowns seeking clicks. Then the children of Crystal Meth go online to earn honorary, self-awarded doctorate degrees in NFL Draftology and use that credential to rise above all others and denounce or praise draft-related information by proclaiming all who disagree with you are inferior, blasphemous, gridiron offspring from inner city crack whores.....Where was I? Oh yeah....Nah, not worth it. -
panthers draft summed up in one picture
MHS831 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
We are the dog--the NFL is the lady. Perhaps I need to tone down my metaphors. Naah. -
I was just going to put this on the thread created for our second round draft pick, but I thought this would make you feel better about the pick, especially if you despise everything Cowboy-related, including Jerry Jones. First, some background that I heard on TV but have not researched. Jonathan Brooks' surgery was completed by Dallas Cowboys' doctor Dan Cooper. Jones would have had a ton of inside information about the knee and he wanted Brooks BADLY. Now, Jones mentions the interview--think about the character and class it takes to get an owner to say these things publicly: "Having already addressed their offensive line by taking Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones might have spoiled their next selection. Speaking to reporters, Jones said Texas running back Jonathon Brooks is "high, high, high" on the Cowboys' draft board going into day two. 'In my 30 years I thought it was the best interview that I ever interviewed with a player," Jones added. "He's outstanding. And he's a great football player.' Brooks to the Cowboys has been one of the most popular player-team pairings since before the draft even started." If Dallas was the only competition, I do not know why we moved back up to 46 from 52 when Dallas picked at 56. However, maybe Dallas was trading up as well. They seemed to get a good deal (compared to what we got from the Rams)--and there are not many RBs in this draft who are elite, can protect the QB, and can catch the ball like Brooks. So I am OK with the trade, I guess. Here is what the NFL Network analysis of Day 2 said about Brooks: "Had Brooks not suffered a torn ACL in November, he might have been a first-round pick. He's a shifty, speedy back who can hit the hole and go, and he should be Carolina's starter before long. I thought they might go center here, but Brooks makes sense for a team that lacked offensive juice." For the record, I did not want the Panthers to draft a RB back in 2017 (or so) when they took McCaffrey. So there's that.
