I mean, people like the smell of their own brand, but I never took it that far. Except that one time in college...

Matt Ryan and Jones coming back so that take a qb off the list
MHS831 replied to Panthers316's topic in Carolina Panthers
Atlanta is in cap hell and they have huge needs on defense and the OL. QB is decent and they can't get out of his contract. It makes no logical sense to take a QB this year. It makes perfect sense to trade back, get some additional picks that can replace the bigger contracts, do some cutting, and get a QB in 2022 or 2023. Getting a QB to sit the bench in 2021 is not the right move, IMO -

And since we are in the division, they may not trade with us -
If it were you, would that not be a surprise? Would it be somehow better?

I agree, but the smart play for Atlanta is to trade back and acquire picks. Everyone wants a QB---so they could take the bait--making an excuse like, "When will we be at #4 again?" My answer: Draft a QB to play behind Ryan for a season or two and don't build that OL and defense---next year.

They said he struggled at the SR Bowl--disappointed during drills--so did Norwell---so maybe his stock dropped.

So we are here scouting talent, but there is the awesome and insightful Joe Person--we owe him the truth. Let's go tell him exactly what we think, while Rhule is telling reporters how great Mac Alpha Jones is. Person just makes stuff up. "Panthers have a 30% chance of signing Moton" Never gets called out.

Remmers starting at LT for the SB

I have a theory: If you don't want to be attacked by a shark, don't swim in the ocean. If you do not want your hand blown off by an M-80.... -
Remmers starting at LT for the SB

Remmers is going to be a symbol for years to come-when someone has a weak link and it causes them to lose a championship game---they can say, "you got Remmered" (C) all rights reserved. -
How close did the Panthers come to getting Stafford? Dang close.

Those Rams--always butting in when we are fishing for a QB. -
Here is what I do not like about Person--he infuses his opinion into the writing too much. Based solely on this quote, "he heard some stuff and now thinks, based on the QB performances we all could see..." (full disclosure--not a member--read what I could) What did he hear, exactly, from the scouts? This is BS. Click bait speculation. He knows if he writes about QBs, it will generate hits--but there is nothing here--impressed that he knew were Rhule vacationed last year--impressed that he referenced the Stafford deal--but does he elaborate on what the scouts told him?

Not sure I like the idea, but here is what we know: The Raiders are in red ink and he would be a $19m break from it.. We could swap first rounders with them and send them a third. They get to move up into Lance area and have a third to help if they need to make another move up (Cincy or Philly) if necessary. They get $19m cap room, the positioning in the draft to draft another QB, and a third. The Panthers would have the 12th overall pick, 2 NFL starting QBs. The Panthers could then trade back for a late first and late second--then picking late 1st (Tackle like Cosmi) and 2 seconds (MLB, CB) with no third. They ain't getting 2 first rounders for Carr. Not happening. Carr has 2 years left on his contract and no money is guaranteed. I am not sold on this move even though it might appear to be robbing the Raiders. Still, at $20m unguaranteed, we would have about $45m in cap room going toward Teddy and Derek. Stats are great, but most Raider fans want him gone. Mayock even said recently, (paraphrasing) "The best part about Carr's contract is that it has almost no guaranteed money." Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Second round is where we will grab a LT, and this year looks to be much brighter than the year Marty got desperate for Little. Cosmi and Leatherwood are fringe first rounders who could slip into round 2 a bit Although I doubt it, Cosmi (Texas) could drop, He is my choice for a second round LT. I doubt he makes out of round 1. I see Slater, Darrisaw, Jenkins (RT), Tucker as lock first rounders. (Some have Tucker as a G--not me) I would say Radunz, Eichenberg, Mayfield (RT-so much depends on the Moton situation) will all go in the second round. I see Carmen Jackson (consistency) and Walker (question marks) in the third.

Benjamin St-Juste (CB, Minnesota) I had never heard of him. And although I caution against players with hyphenated last names as a general rule, this could be a real sleeper. He is probably smart, having graduated in 2.5 years (he had 3 years of eligibility left when he graduated). He is 6-3, 200 lbs with 33" arms--at corner. He had a good day at the SR bowl and a good week of practices. I think he could be an early day 3 steal. https://saturdaytradition.com/minnesota-football/former-minnesota-db-benjamin-st-juste-drawing-rave-reviews-at-senior-bowl/

This draft is loaded at slot WR and I think we could get a third-round talent in the fifth round. I am impressed with the depth at T and G as well. On defense, there are quite a few hybrid players as well. This draft has to have Rhule drool all over it. I think they will trade back, maybe in the second round, and pick up an extra player or two.
