  1. This demonstrates the coaching staff's confidence in building the roster with marginal, role players they find in the middle rounds. The trade, you ask, sorta plays into their strength If we did this deal, and you include comp picks, our draft suddenly looks like this (going from memory, so I am 80% sure this is correct): 3rd round Houston early round pick (67 overall) 3rd round Carolina (73 overall) 4th round Houston (100 overall before third round comp picks assigned) 4th round Panthers (104 overall before third round comp picks assigned) 5th round Panthers (135 overall probably around 145 after comp picks assigned) 5th round (comp pick around 168 or so) 6th round Panthers (around 190 after comp picks) 6th round Comp pick (around 215 or so) We would get out of bad contract and get a franchise QB. We would not pick in round 1 again until 2024
  2. But the cost of living is higher (10%) than in NC. so technically, the income tax in NC is less than the cost of living in Florida---so it is probably a wash, if he chooses to look at it that way.
  3. Question: Would the Panthers have to forward the contract and revise/extend it?
  4. With that last image, I can't believe a word of this!!! Nah, thank for the explanation--I am one of those who were confused about this--still am (slow learner) but this helps.
  5. Hindsight makes being a GM so much easier. Had we kept Cam and not signed Bridgewater, and Cam played like he did this year (Bridgewater, statistically, outplayed Cam) we'd be in bad shape. The way I recall this, Cam wanted a new deal (commitment). So it is more complicated. Ace has often pooed me for saying anything critical or negative about Cam. Just to clear the air, I think Cam was great for this franchise and I think he was horribly abused by Rivera and Hurney. I was saying it in 2011 and I was called a racist--far from it. Cam should be in the top 5 QBs in the league right NOW wearing black and blue---but they did not protect him, the ran him too much---to save their jobs.
  6. They will build the OL and get a TE with this draft if this goes through. Houston would be stupid not to take this deal. The Bridgewater factor should not be problematic for Houston--they need depth and he could Bridge them into a new QB.
  7. Miami is also in a great state for income taxes. SF--in the worst state. Carolina Panthers are ranked 14th in the NFL. Florida: NO income tax (Cost of living is higher) North Carolina: 5.5% income tax California: 13.3% income tax (and the SF area is one of the most expensive places to live in the world) Ok, say Watson will be making $35m per year. Here is what he nets (income tax only): Florida: $35m North Carolina: $33.975m California: $30.345m https://www.kiplinger.com/slideshow/taxes/t055-s001-what-state-taxes-will-nfl-free-agents-pay/index.html Now let's look at "cost of living". The value on the dollar (cost of living) in each state is: Florida $1.00 North Carolina $1.10 California 87 cents https://www.patriotsoftware.com/blog/accounting/average-cost-living-by-state/ Now, math time. What is his contract actually worth if you consider income taxes and cost of living? Florida: $35m after income tax and $1.00 cost of living value on the dollar----$35m NC: $33.975 after income tax and multiplied by $1.10 cost of living value on the dollar--$37.345 Cal: $30.345m after income tax, multiplied by .87 cost of living value on the dollar--$26.4m So if the player is considering taxes and cost of living, Miami and Carolina probably cause the player to net $10m more per year. Do not forget, this is before federal income taxes and agent fees. It is reasonable to assume that the player realizes about 50% of the figures above. Not trying to derail the thread, but if I am a player, I think about this stuff.
  8. 10 million for a below average to average center. However, you do not want 2 rookies playing side by side in the NFL on the OL, so you are probably right. I am looking rookie LT, vet LG, Paradis, Rookie RG, Moton (hopefully).
  9. Here is a perspective: Let's say you make a deal for Watson that includes a player. You can then offer them the following deal (hypothetically): Shaq Thompson, 2021 2nd rounder, 2022 1st rounder, 2023 first rounder. That sounds like a lot. I can hear you all saying, "Hell no." Now, what we did was save our #8 pick this year and cut a big contract (needed to sign Watson). We would then trade out of #8 for a first rounder in 2022 and a second rounder in 2021. So by trading out, we recoup the 2022 first rounder and the 2021 second rounder. So now what have we actually lost to obtain Watson? 1. Shaq and his big contract. 2. A 2023 first rounder. Now is that such a bad deal, if we can do it? If Lance is there, I am certain a team would give us a first next year and a second rounder (or late first rounder) this year. Hypothetical, but the point is, a trade before the draft gives you options to recoup losses by trading back during the draft.
  10. Love this---awesome perspective. I was just posting on another thread about the OLiNE and some dork (nctarheelsomething) criticized me and told me, "Our line was OK--we do not need to build the OL--maybe a free agent G or C" At that time, my dumbass alert senses were throbbing, so I blocked him to avoid future dumbassery. Paradis making $10m is funny---and he might just make it because there are so many other needs. I see us drafting 3 OL, signing a free agent, and locking up Moton---maybe, depending on what we do in free agency at QB. Thanks for this--good perspective.
  11. I am dispelling the myth that chemo makes you smarter.
  12. I had another thought to share, so I returned. Let's say Watson costs 3 first rounders. Is that worth it? If you think he is the QB for the next decade, yes. Look at the Jets--lotta first round busts that take 3 years to bust. Watson is proven---and if he pans out, which I think he would, you can make moves in rounds 2-7 to add a player or 2. I am not a fan of trading #1s, but this is an opportunity you rarely get---no rebuild--we would enter WIN NOW mode and still have youth. I am changing my mind.
  13. Watson gives you 10 more years at QB, Stafford gives you 3-5 tops. If Watson costs an extra draft first rounder now, in the long run, probably worth it.
  14. I am a two-time survivor. Would not wish it on anyone.
  15. Stop it. You are not qualified to judge anyone. Who you got at LT, Mr, Just fine? RT? RG? The OL was in the bottom half of the NFL and nearly all of them are free agents (except overpaid Paradis)--so what in the hell are you talking about? if you think surrounding a franchise QB with a line that "wasn't that bad" and is not returning is something you can live with, then go live with it, but do not try to convince me that you know what you are talking about--you do not. Seriously, are you a troll or something?
  16. You are not worried about the offensive line. That alone disqualifies the rest of your posts. Just going to block you because I prefer intelligent discourse.
  17. Or if they draft a QB at #2. I said earlier, Tua makes Moton the blind side protector. A win win, if you ask me. The circumstances, (surgery, covid, preseason--I would not give up on him, but if they do, yes.
  18. So you give someone poo for having a different opinion? Pretty fugging arrogant. I never said he would not help--but do you want another elite QB getting pounded because there is no LT, LG, or decent C? Do you want to go another season without a MLB? Watson does not tackle people or get the D off the field on third down--
  19. Watson is going to cost too much, and as much as I would love to see it, we don't have the pieces yet. You can have Charles Linbergh flying your plane, but if the plane is full of second-hand equipment and faulty parts, the flight will be problematic. We heed to build the plane and find the right pilot. I think we can do it in 2021, but not if you go all in on one player. Houston II.
  20. Right--he was basically a second-rounder last year, and he did not get any PT this year, so you are actually losing a year on a cheap deal.
  21. I think you go back to Rhule's comments: 1. Need a player who can play with "urgency". What does that mean? Remember how lackadaisical Teddy seemed late in games? Remember how many of those games we lost? It could mean a QB who does not get the urgency of the situation--checking down and not going for the win with little time left. It could mean game management. Rhule is a motivator, and a lackadaisical QB with the game on the line is not leadership. 2. There are a lot of good QBs that go to "bad organizations" and do not have support. Are we looking at a QB struggling in a "bad organization?" Darnold? Tua? This will be the "offseason of the offense". I expect a TE, OT, QB, G, and maybe a WR in free agency and the draft. A LB and some DL help--maybe a CB on D--that is it. Personally, if Miami takes a QB, I go after Tua. I think he would fit in the right system. Moton then becomes the blind side protector, putting less importance on LT.
  22. No, but if we are going shopping for high-dollar free agents, we have to cut some cap.
