Do the run the cone drills at pro days? That is a good read. I also like to see the agility drills for DBs. the hip rolls, etc. And the hands of the receivers and TEs--do they catch the ball with their hands reaching back for the ball? etc. How sharp are their routes? And at the combine, you can compare these athletes---not at pro days. And since they are often in groups, some teams look to see how they interact with others, lead, etc.

If I recall correctly, Tolbert had a terrible Super Bowl and Ealy was the star. Funny how things work out.

Message to the Panthers: You have lost 2 Super Bowls. One to Tom Brady, the other to Peyton Manning. Both teams had solid defenses. It is time to step up and go for a title. Not a playoff birth, not a Super Bowl appearance--the Lombardi.

They added 3 offensive players who, at one point in their careers not long ago, were the best at their respective positions--and they had 3 TDs together--the Bucs did not have to trade for them, draft them. They were gift wrapped. It was the most NBAish thing I have seen in the NFL. And for some reason, the refs in the Super Bowl think the team with the legendary, aging QB does not commit penalties.

If a team wants to move on from a QB, like Matt Ryan, for example, it looks bad if they shop the QB and then keep him. Not good, so I imagine teams will cold call just to see if there is a chance...

Sportsmanship award. What the hell is that? Like being on the "Clean Plate Club" in the cafeteria during elementary school. "Hey Teddy. You lost a bunch of games but you were a good sport about it. Here is a medal."

The more I think about it, give me #6. #1 will cost too much, but it is (deep down) the hope of every Panther fan. #2 Is my draft preference,but it too will cost us a lot. #3 not sure about Carr--I don't want Carolina to be nothing more than a pit stop for Carrs. (Get it?) #4 I consider this the probable thing that will happen. #5. Hard to get pumped about this, but as a free agent, on a good "prove it" deal.... #6. He has never had a good team--college, pros, but has turned heads. Lets sign him and give him a good team. #7. Again, a trade for Darnold is hard to imagine--based on his play so far. However, if you think you can get something out of him and get him cheap, maybe a fall back plan.

It is very possible that the Jets stay with Darnold, the Fins stay with Tua, and the Falcons stay with Ryan and do not go after a first-round rookie to sit the bench. I expect some trades, but maybe not the frenzy people think. If Cincy falls in love with Sewell or a WR or a CB, they could stay put and then Philly enters camp with 2 legit QBs. Detroit may decide to roll with Goff. So you have to look at the teams that really have no QBs in late April being the most aggressive--currently we are talking New England, Washington, and then possibly Denver, SF, Carolina...

I say we trade for him, cut Teddy, and trade back in the draft for another first rounder in 2022. Then if he does not work out, we'd suck again and we would have 2 first rounders to move up for a QB. Then you could add a T and CB in round 2, LB in 3, etc. Banking that #1 would be insurance.

Minshaw in our offense could be special if we only had an OL. Imagine developing an OL if we could trade back a bit from #8? I am encouraged to see that so many of the Huddlers I consider to be intelligent are giving this idea a favorable nod.

Good point. He had zero there. This is a refreshing take on him, and like I said, he reminds me of Jake a bit, and I do not really know why--the underdog, raw, and his swag--I see this.

This reminds me of Jake Delhomme 2.0. A raw, developing 24-year old QB on a terrible roster. The TD-Int ratio is good, QB rating good, etc. The thought has crossed my mind and I dismissed it, but he would bring swag and urgency to the game. I am posting this before I read the other posts--I am sure , "HE SUCKS!" and stuff like that will emerge quickly and frequently. However, if we take a Minshew, you do not get the growing pains a rookie brings, and you know how he performs in the worst conditions. You can trade back. You can re-sign Moton. Washington, by the way, is interested in Minshew, and I am not sure about any of the other 30 team. Lets say we take Minshew, cut Bridgewater post June 1. We save money. Trade back, acquire a first rounder for 2022. In that case, if Minshew does not work out, move up in the 2022 draft for a QB. If a QB falls to us in 2021, and let's say it is the 4th of the big 4 QBs--what would that trade be worth? A TON. I appreciate the perspective. I love considering every angle--the best deal is the one that nobody is considering. Tua, by the way, makes RT the blind side. Moton becomes a free agent in a month.

They have trade back written all over them. I wonder if they would trade with an NFC South rival.

Farley ain't far behind, if at all. They could get one if they moved back to 9 or 10.

I have been saying this, although I read so much about them taking a QB, I wonder if they will. On paper, a QB now makes no sense.

If the plan involves going after all trades and that is what they are calling aggressive, it sure sounds as if they plan on losing out on multiple trades--as if the plan to be aggressive is to low ball. I have never seen such a fervor over QBs as I have this season. I would not be surprised if the top 4 QBs are gone by Atlanta. Jones gone by 15. Now, that will free up Tua, Darnold, (I doubt Ryan leaves--contract). That is it. So you have a Darnold, possibly a Trubiski, Tua, and maybe some other free agent like a Goff--and even these QBs are getting trade attention---but has NOBODY asked about Teddy? No- Teddy needs to be the highest paid backup in the league next year; I see him starting some games if we bring in a young guy. About Darnold for all of you who are saying NOPE, based on what you saw in NY. He is 23 years old. He has been in a crap system playing for a crappy coach. He had little support. Any rookie you bring in probably would have struggled in that situation. Darnold is a year or two older than the rookies. Finally, I said this in another post---look at Josh Allen's stats during his first few years. Very comparable. Think Tanneyhill. Does this mean I want him? Not really, but it does mean that I do not eliminate him because he has struggled for 3 years on a very bad team. If you step back and look at stats, most successful QBs play on successful teams. We credit the QB, but few really good QBs play on really bad teams. You need the team. Darnold may be a bust, but he may be in a bad situation too.

I think the secret to Rhule's success is going to be grabbing a player or two at end of the draft and undrafted free agency who can make this roster. We are not used to that a lot, but last year we had several players contribute from this pool of talent. These folks put together a nice list and they provide rationale for each player's inclusion. Enjoy. (Proehl caught my eye, but several others did as well. I think Proehl is the ideal slot WR, maybe the second slot---because he has good, strong hands and runs excellent routes. Samuel was more athletic, but we really need that sure-handed route runner who can find the cracks in the defense and get you first downs. He does, and I realize that this is suggesting that we develop a qb that was not developed by other professional coaches--highly unlikely. But I think of it as a chance to take advantage of an impatient owner, a coach on the hot seat looking to roll the dice, etc. Darnold was 20 when he was drafted into an organization that needed a savior and did not have the leadership or supporting cast. I am a firm believer that if you put Lance or Fields or Wilson into a bad situation, you will only get bad results. Do I think Wilson will turn NY around? Not without help. And if you ask too much of him, you get errors. Goff, on the other hand, did not have the greatest offense, but he had a good defense on a good team. Tanneyhill did not suddenly become a good player; he suddenly got a team with a good defense, OL, and a pretty good RB. Makes all the difference. Maybe we should bring in one of these unloved, discarded QBs and spend our resources on the OL, TE, and D. Maybe we should trade back and build a young dynasty around a QB who can grow up with the team instead of carrying the team.
