I have been saying (and you may disagree) that Easton Stick looked good for the Chargers and the announcers (LAC) were wondering if he might make the team---I dunno, all I have to go on was the one game I watched, but I saw something more than what we have in camp behind SD.
-
So that sub 50% completion rate is compelling to you?
-
I would start by banning myself.

It is obvious, unless you bring in another QB--I am not sure PJ's best is going to be enough--ever--so I thought we should develop a young guy with more upside--arguably an Easton Stick or someone of that nature that may have more upside. I am down on Walker, if you can't tell.

Thought we might take a look at some potential surprise cuts. Feel free to add your list before Tuesday's deadline (Capt. Hindsight): Melvin CB: I think he gets cut. Taylor and Thomas-Oliver III looked good in preseason, and you need to develop youth over paying for some drifter’s retirement. There was talk about him playing the nickel until Bouye returned, but Hartsfield had a strong preseason, IMO. Horn and Jackson outside ahead of Taylor and Thomas Oliver, Hartsfield and Bouye at Nickel. We don’t need Melvin. Walker QB: They may try to pull him back to the PS, but to what end? He got outplayed in the preseason by Grier. Period. We probably keep 2 QBs on the roster, and one on the PS. Thomas TE: With Rhule’s man crush on Ricci, we have 2 TEs that can play the FB spot. Rhule bragged about developing Ricci from the PS last year. Could this spell doom for Thomas, who might fall between the cracks? I think we may have seen his best, and it is not going to cut it. Oh, and if we keep 4 TEs, Thompson is probably the fourth. Thomas just makes too many mental errors and has not come close to tapping into his potential. In a contract year, might as well develop the young’uns.

A backup QB candidate that I liked watching NFL Network was Easton Stick (Chargers)
-
Not saying this is what it was, but have you ever had a stinger?
-
The plan was to get rid of the ball quickly and sit down, it seems:
-
Gonna be an interesting decision. Rhule likes him, and I have yet to see why.

FINAL PRESEASON STATS: Note: Grier also ran for more yards Those of you wanting Walker---after you exhaust the excuses, am I missing something here? Why is this hard? Grier won--by 30 percentage points.
-
I have no excuse. Fell asleep at 11 on a Sat night.

Best to forget about QB Semetary, I tell ya. They come back, but they ain't the same. “And the most terrifying question of all may be just how much horror the human mind can stand and still maintain a wakeful, staring, unrelenting sanity.”

Only nerds and losers are up before 6:30 on Sunday morning. We are pathetic.
-
Wasn't Weinke like 30 when we drafted him? I do not think the Temple thing is a factor. Grier won the battle, and you want the iron that is forged when the heat is the hottest. I do not see keeping both duds--we keep 1 or neither.

^^^^^^^ Dumbassery.

Coach Simmons has done a great job with the secondary. I was totally impressed. Horn: We have a #1 CB--a lockdown for the first time maybe ever. Still, loving his swag so far. We have an alpha male at CB now (see Sherman, Richard--only a better athlete) Jackson: Playing so much better (so far) than last year. Hartsfield: From undrafted free agent to a solid nickel. Good athlete and we are tapping into his athleticism at the nickel spot. I am pulling for this guy. Thomas-Oliver III: Perhaps the most improved player on the team from last year (if you do not count Hartsfield). I have been very impressed. Taylor: I watched some Washington tape--blah. They have him giving less cushion and planting and meeting the WR when the ball arrives. He has been solid and is going to be a player. Chandler: Has been balling. Seems to understand the game. Robinson: A nose for the ball. Reminds me of a Safety version of Josh Norman. Hard headed as a rookie, in the dog house, but when the light comes on, it will shine brightly. Chinn: May be much better at S than I thought. Man he is all over the field. Burris, Franklin, Bouye, Melvin-I did not see much from them, which is not necessarily a bad thing. This group is the most improved unit on the team from last year. Hats off to the coaches.

If just between Grier and Walker, Grier won the job. Was it pretty? That would be a big old bowl of nope.

I want to see more FB dives with Ricci. And I want more cow bell.

Horrible to say, but I love watching the punt team!
MHS831 replied to cardiackat88.'s topic in Carolina Panthers
That is horrible to say. Punts are very underappreciated. Those guys are so good it is sick. They "pooch" a kick farther than I can punt it with my ball blaster 3000 tights on. and now they back it up like a good wedge shot. -
Amazingly accurate statement.

Horn already has swag. He is the real deal. Marshall is going to be special too, and I love Christensen and Brown inside. They have a lot to learn still, and each has some checklist things to develop. Tremble is a gamer and will rock you, Shi Smith (hope he is OK--wondering about broken collar bone) and Taylor are a season away from being key contributors. The DTs have flashed. The only question mark is the long snapper, but a season working on the PS could make him ready.

Grier was not bad last night, and PJ is just not an NFL QB. Grier is not much, but I think he got better with confidence. After the TD run, he seemed to see the light a bit. I dunno. They are both inconsistent and not real good. Fun Fact: I had forgotten, but Grier came in 4th in the Heisman voting. And now you know.
