  1. No, that would be tragic. I also think the personality of the GM is important to attract free agents and undrafted rookies. Not sure how he relates to people--not saying he can't, but...
  2. I think that Morgan will remain as half of the equation, if he is not offered another job. I think the cap is very important and these days you need an expert. Tepper is not as smart as he thinks he is, but he is smarter than many think he is. Maybe he will figure it out.
  3. Thought this thread was about me for a moment. Then I remembered, I am not that bright, I am not new, I am not a boy, and only part of me is sexy to my dog when i am sleeping in my recliner. Disregard.
  4. I don't like hiring people based on reputation when they have won it all so many times. I really like the hungry and young coaches who worked under these legends, frothing at the mouth, working night and day to apply what they have learned. Just me?
  5. I know you have some studs who also deserve it, like Donald, but I have never seen a DT who stays on the field and chases plays to the sideline like a LB.
  6. So he sets the record for tackles in a season (103), has 2 sacks (despite being double teamed all the time), never leaves the field, and he is not first? So many other times he stuffs the LOS.
  7. I dunno. n The Panthers averaged about 14 points per game. Any coach would play us conservatively to keep from beating themselves. I am not sure our D saw an offense that was much more than vanilla. If I were coaching, I would use the Panther game to set up the following week's game. For example, I'd run a double reverse 3 times, then next week, a double reverse, flea flicker pass-I know that our offense faced an unbridled, 8 in the box defense that was not worried about getting beat deep. Stunts, blitzes, etc. vs. our terrible guards, unopen WRs, below average TEs, and rookie/miniature QB.
  8. Which is probably why he wont get the job even if he is the most qualified--PR move to bring in fresh faces, if nothing else
  9. I vote for you to be the next GM. The problem is, when you have a hatchet man like Tepper who thinks he can tantrum his way to greatness, the vision becomes shorter--day-to-day in some cases.
  10. I call it the Rae Carruth Curse. Yes, we did draft Steve Smith after drafting Carruth (Moose was drafted the year before we drafted Carruth) , but at the time, they were mostly interested in his special teams abilities. Panthers picks at WR beginning with Rae Carruth (1997) with round drafted in parentheses: 1997: Rae Carruth (1) 1998: Donald Hayes (4), Jim Turner (7) 2001: Steve Smith (3) (best panther draft ever--Morgan, Jenkins, Smith.) 2003: Walter Young (7) 2004: Keary Colbert (2), Drew Carter (5) 2007: Dwayne Jarrett (2), Ryne Robinson (4) 2010: Brandon Lafell (2), Armanti Edwards (3), David Gettis (5) 2011: Kealoha Pilares (5) 2012: Joe Adams (4) 2014: Kelvin Benjamin (1) 2015: Devin Funchess (2) 2017: Curtis Samuel (2) 2018: DJ Moore (1) 2019: Terry Godwin (7) 2021: Terrace Marshall Jr (2), Shi Smith (6) 2023: Jonathan Mingo (2). Taking a look at the first rounders ONLY: 1997: Rae Carruth (1) 2014: Kelvin Benjamin (1) 2018: DJ Moore (1) Taking a look at the Second rounders ONLY: 2004: Keary Colbert (2) 2007: Dwayne Jarrett (2) 2010: Brandon Lafell (2) 2015: Devin Funchess (2) 2017: Curtis Samuel (2) 2021: Terrace Marshall Jr (2) 2023: Jonathan Mingo (2) Yikes
  11. And that does impact your sack total. If the offense only has 1 edge rusher to block--they focus on Burns. We flipped him around and used him in coverage at times--that means we are hoping that the offense struggles to adjust to his pre snap alignment or that they put 2 blockers on him and he drops into the flat in coverage and we send a blitzing DB or LB instead. Either way, that does hurt his ability to get as many sacks as TJ Watt, who has Highsmith on the other side. Heck, the Steelers have Nick Herbig too, and he is better than all Panther Edge rushers not named Burns.
  12. He may be more comfortable with analytics than motivating egotistical athletes. He came off as somewhat shy and introspective to me, but who knows? Interesting question.
  13. Since he and Fitterer worked together in Seattle, it makes you wonder if they were not joined at the hip. that is problematic, but it seems more likely that Morgan would engage with FItterer and not Tepper so much. If Morgan did engage with Tepper, that might suggest that he did not feel that Fitterer was doing it and he needed to do so. When I said "reportedly" I should have said "rumored" because I meant that it has been stated--I assumed that anyone making such a statement has some knowledge of it, but yes, we have some truth stretchers on here. "Alternative facts" have become all the rage of late.
  14. While I am saying that Morgan should be considered, I am also aware that hiring from within is often a sign of insecurity. Then again, at times it is like a used car transaction--the buyer is looking at all the cool features of the car while the seller is focused on the car's issues and problems. I dunno. However, I would give Morgan a chance. He has solid references/track record and a decade of experience with 2 successful franchises. I am not sure we will find better, but I do not know his shortcomings. Someone made the point that his pizza business failed. Morgan was a football player. not a pizza guru. He was very cerebral, which means he is able to analyze his opponents tendencies and weaknesses/strengths. I would not sell him short, but I would shop around first. Keeping him on to oversee the transition is wise because it does not let him off the hook.
  15. Morgan has personnel experience in Seattle and Buffalo, and I agree with everything you say here. I actually knew Brandon Beane (he is from Norwood, NC) as a grunt Panther scout/front office coffee boy and he and I talked Panthers a few times while our cars were being inspected. At the time, I was not impressed with him, but it was interesting. I'd take him back in minute. I think his desire to return home was in the back of my mind, but he and McDermott are blood brothers.
  16. I am just repeating what others said and assumed it had been reported, so good question--if they are full of Sht, I am too. I am not sure where they got it, but I want to believe it.
  17. Same page, brother. Moton being traded is merely a cap move--he is our best OL by far.
  18. I often have these thoughts, and it is the best way to build a team. Hershel Walker to Minnesota brought Dallas rings, for example. However, as poorly as we have drafted, I dunno. CMC and Moore gutted our offense, and we got value for them in draft capital. I think of it this way, your first rounder has about a 50-60% chance of being a success, and after that, it drops to something like 25% then down to 10% on day 3. Derrick Brown in young and will be a beast in this league for the next 8-10 years. I love him as a player and maybe a little bit as a man-he knows nothing about that part.
  19. Morgan has been promoted and worked with player personnel in Seattle and Buffalo, so he has experience. I am not going to share an opinion based on the fact that I really do not know what he knows or the extent of his power. I do, however, recall some things about this that could work: 1. He knows where the bodies are buried. He knows the cancers and the players who have not bee properly developed. He has been watching and biting his lip, we assume. 2. He reportedly stands up to Tepper. If so, then that will be defined during the interview. The good sign? He stands up to to Tepper and he is still here and seems to be in position to at the very least help during this transition. 3. Experience in Seattle and Buffalo. They are successful teams that have developed talent and been competitive. He has worked under 2 of the best GMs in the NFL. 4. The Panthers will not be able to attract a proven GM, so they will be taking a chance regardless. Who is better than Morgan (I don't know--not a rhetorical question). So there are some reasons Morgan is suited for the position. We should not dismiss what we know about Morgan for what we hope might define an outside candidate. That is not to say we should not do a thorough search, but I have always been impressed with Morgan, and I would not be surprised to see him as a GM somewhere in the near future.
  20. I am not a fan of any plan to move Derrick Brown. He is the reason our defense was solid, and he is young. Give him a long term extension.
  21. Corbett might be done, or at least never the same. However, with the focus on WR, we may have few options. Rework Moton's deal and trade him. That would save nearly 30m. Our best OL, he is 30 and likely will be over the hill when this team is ready to compete for a title.
  22. Either way, if this is accurate, not a good look.
  23. He won with a solid RB and adequate to marginal QB--I think he is a good coach, frankly.
