  1. We have to trust these guys to do it right--not the crackheads who were pulling strings before. I really do not think they understand talent. A WR that has good hands and runs crisp routes that gets separation is not going to bust. Instead, we were drafting players based on 40 times and active heart rates--zodiac signs and college stats-- Morgan is going to be watching a lot of film---that is what he knows and every successful MLB does it religiously.
  2. Now there is some noise coming out of Pittsburgh about Picket not willing to dress week 17 as the emergency QB (did not know that was the case) and that he was not cooperative about Wilson coming to town. Sounds like a Diva. He did not want to stand beside Russell during the national anthem, for one, because their jerseys would read "Wilson Pickett" Thank you.
  3. It seems that there is evidence to suggest that the plan is to address the following during the draft: Confirmed WR visits/meetings (no significance to order--estimated round is in parentheses) Keon Coleman - Wide Receiver - Florida State (1/2) Troy Franklin - Wide Receiver - Oregon (2) Xavier Legette - Wide Receiver - South Carolina (2/3) Ladd McConkey - Wide Receiver - Georgia (2) Ainias Smith - Wide Receiver - Texas A&M (4) Brian Thomas Jr. - Wide Receiver - LSU (1) Tez Walker - Wide Receiver - UNC (3) Malik Washington - Wide Receiver - Virginia (4) WR: The question is, "How many?" If the draft were tomorrow, I would guess 2. This strongly suggests that a WR will be the pick at #33. It also suggests that they are looking for a slot WR in round 4 (pick 101) or they will take Carolina players Legette or Walker should they fall to 101. To me, that might indicate the #33 pick is someone who could also play inside. If you look at the WR group likely to be available at #33, that leaves Coleman, Franklin, and McConkey. Coleman is a big WR who brings Kelvin Benjamin vibes back, but he can high point the ball. However, the only TE the Panthers have met with is 6'6"--so is Canales still craving the Mike Evans jump balls? Hmmm. If the decision comes down to Troy Franklin or Ladd McConkey, it could go to the better route runner--McConkey. I think it is a pretty safe bet to wager that the Panthers will take one of these players or trade out of #33. Malik Washington in the fourth would make the WR corps dangerous. Confirmed OLB/Edge/DE visits/meetings (estimated round in parentheses) Austin Booker - EDGE - Kansas (3/4) Andre Carter - EDGE - Indiana (undrafted free agent) Marshawn Kneeland - EDGE - Western Michigan (3) Xavier Thomas - EDGE - Clemson (6) Bralen Trice - EDGE - Washington (2) Gotta keep in mind that these visits happened or were scheduled before we added Wonnum and Chaisson. This is invalid if we sign Chase or Downey. It is my guess that if we do not sign Chase or Clowney, the Panthers will draft Bralen Trice at pick #39. Edge SOLB: Now that they have Wonnum at SOLB, they may be interested in some depth. They have shown interest (interview at combine and personal visit) in Western Michigan's Marshawn Kneeland, a player who would likely be available at pick #65. Currently, the depth at SOLB seems to be Eku Leota and DJ Johnson. Edge: Jack--At the Jack OLB position, they just signed Chaisson (who I think will do will in this system) and they have Amare Barno, who played will in 2023 in spot duty. Of course, they are trying to sign Chase or Downey, but if they do not, there seems to be interest in Bralen Trice (Washington--should be a day 2 pick) Conclusion: If we sign Clowney or Chase, we are done at Edge. Confirmed prospect meetings other than WR and Edge: Offense: Jonathan Brooks - Running Back - Texas (7-und) Anthony Bradford - Guard - LSU (4-6) Delmar Glaze - Tackle - Maryland (4/5) Christian Haynes - Guard - UCONN (3) Patrick Paul - Tackle - Houston (2/3) John Rhys Plumlee - Quarterback - UCF (und) Jared Wiley - Tight End - TCU (3/4) Defense: JD Bertrand - Linebacker - Notre Dame (5) Edgerrin Cooper - Linebacker - Texas A&M (2) Jaden Crumedy - Tackle - Mississippi State (5/6) Braden Fiske - Tackle - Florida State (2) Mark Perry - Safety - TCU (6) Nate Wiggins - Corner - Clemson (1) To me, it is noteworthy that there are no centers listed, but I realize this list is not complete or a great predictor. Still, if they were bluffing about Corbett and Mays, it seems that it would show here like it did with WR and Edge. Tight End--They are going to grab a TE in this draft; I just can't see them sticking with what they have.Wiley is 6'6" and Canales likes to throw up tall guys. I feel confident that the Panthers will draft him. Nate Wiggins is projected to be a first rounder, so I do not think he is on the board any longer. Based on what I know to be needs and taking these tea leaves into account, I predict the following on this 15th day of March in the 2024th year of our lord: #33: Ladd McConkley, WR UGA: He can play inside or outside, and it looks like he is polished and ready to go as a rookie--good route runner--runs entire route tree. Solid and smart, able to communicate with smart QB. Good hands, quick feet. #39 Bralen Trice, Edge Washington (perhaps a bit of a reach here, but if we do not sign a free agent, Trice is the best of the rest after round 1) #65: Jared Wiley, TE TCU (At 6'6" tall and 250lbs with the ability to run a 4;6 40, I can see Canales wanting to add this red zone weapon) #101: Mailk Washington WR UVA. A slot that can make things happen. If Legette or Walker fall here, one is the pick and Ladd becomes the slot of the future.
  4. I do not see other teams interested in him at the moment. I would say, basing this on nothing at all except my knowledge of math up to 100, is that he his chance of signing here is 82.27%.
  5. Chase's last stop is Tenn, and they have $50m. cap room-- The Saints have about $16.6m and the Panthers are somewhere around $20m. I would say the odds are 50% to Tennessee, 30% New Orleans, 15% to Carolina, and 5% quit football
  6. If we sign a free agent Edge at this point (Chase or Clowney) and the probability is about 30%. Chase is going to visit New Orleans and Tennessee, and he is slow playing it. Clowney has interest from the Jets, Panthers, and the Ravens would like him back. Here is Spotrac's estimate of cap space: 3. Tennessee $50m 16. Carolina $20m 18. New Orleans $16.6 19. NY Jets $13m 20. Baltimore $11m It seems likely that nobody will be able to compete with the contract Tennessee gives Chase, which is probably why he is visiting them last. That leaves the Panthers competing with 2 teams with less cap space for Clowney. The Jets are not in a good place, but he may think NYC is cool. The Ravens were successful and he is part of that team now--to me, they are the most likely to land Clowney. If Clowney wants to come home, we can probably offer him a slightly higher salary to make that happen. My guess is it will cost the Panthers $10m per year for 2 years. So if we do not sign either Clowney or Young, we plan to draft one, I suppose. This is what Person said in the Atlantic: Outlook: Wonnum looks like the type of long, athletic player who could thrive in Ejiro Evero’s 3-4 system. He had a pair of eight-sack seasons in four years in Minnesota after the Vikings drafted him in the fourth round. That’s not nothing, but the Panthers believe Wonnum can be more disruptive while raising his productivity.
  7. Update: Young’s visit has been rescheduled, Underhill reports. Fans shouldn’t read into this one way or another until we have more information. It could be as simple as Young’s flight getting canceled. Either way, this story isn’t going to wrap up quickly.
  8. We need to seriously consider changing the name of this group from Carolina Huddle to Karen Huddle. A very smart acquisition. A former first rounder who played in a 3-4 was not in position to perform well in Jax, a team in disarray in 2020. Let's see what happens. This is what we are going to have to do, and I would rather sign proven athletes on bargain contracts when they are 24 that overpaying 30+ year old half assing journeymen.
  9. I did not realize that Wonnum was 260lbs. He looks about 240--so you are probably right. He is an upgrade over YGM. DJ Johnson has great speed (4.49) but he is 260 as well. Barno is in the 240 range, and he also has elite quickness (4.36). So I am guessing, based on these physical characteristics, than DJ will be behind Wonnum as the SLB, and Barno will be behind the edge pass rusher on the other side--how do you see it?
  10. They were afraid they would look Clowny if the Chased him. Thought I would take some of the heat off your back.
  11. He is Haynes replacement, assuming Haynes is not back--not Burns' replacement. That is why we are still pursuing Chase and Clowny. I am guessing it is going to be Clowny, and I am guessing it will be a one-year contract. Of course, we could whiff on both, and that would necessitate drafting one. I think we could draft a Sam 0LB and a rush/Jack OLB.
  12. Brown has been durable and he plays the entire game--does not come out on passing downs and he can play all 3 positions up front. If situational pass rushers can get $25m, he deserves more.
  13. Mystery solved. Case closed.
  14. That is right--the difference is about $18m. So we get this guy and an elite Right guard for about what we would have paid disgruntled Peter Parker
  15. If his material was posted here on the huddle as a huddler, we'd throw him out.
  16. He is a 26 year old Haynes-best comparison I can think of on short notice.
  17. 40 is about as low as I would go as well, but it sorta depends on what player I am targeting at #33. I really think we are going to be in great position to add a third rounder by trading down-still have #39. So if you have #39 and 40, and then #65 and say, #80, that is ideal, imo
  18. I kno better than to mess with computer nerds. As soon as I do, my laptop crashes and my internet freezes. They have mystical powers that are directly affiliated with the dark side.
  19. I think some posts on this Huddle thread are just parroting the post from some Rando. They aren't reliable. Who's with me?
  20. ' That would give us the 31st pick!!
